Battlefield Hardline has been officially announced by Electronic Arts.
Confirming earlier reports, the upcoming shooter will be developed by Dead Space studio Visceral for release this autumn.
A brand new series in the Battlefield franchise, the game revolves around the war on crime and the battle between cops and criminals.
The project was born from a meeting between Visceral's Steve Papoutsis and DICE CEO Karl Magnus Troedsson.
"Several years ago, I was at an internal EA meeting in Barcelona with creative leaders from across the company," Papoutsis explained.
"It was there I met Karl Magnus Troedsson, the GM of DICE, for the first time, and we immediately began talking about games. I've always loved Battlefield and KM was a huge fan of Dead Space, which I was working on at the time.
"We started talking about different ways we could work together, different ways we could take Battlefield and action games in a new direction. It was then that this project that became Battlefield Hardline was born."
Confirming both single and multiplayer, Papoutsis said that the studio is "adding new twists and turns to the foundation of Battlefield multiplayer" and "bringing [its] strengths" to single player.
The game will be fully unveiled at EA's E3 press conference on June 9 at 8pm UK time.
It is believed to be in development for Xbox One,Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC.
Previous Battlelog leaks suggest it will contain four character classes: Enforcer, Mechanic, Operator and Professional, as well as game modes such as 'Blood Money', 'Bomb Squad' and 'Carrier Assault'.
The first footage of Battlefield Hardline has appeared online.
The video is suggested to be early footage meant for internal distribution, and refers to the game as its codename 'Omaha'.
