Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to request refunds from June, Microsoft has confirmed.
Gold members will be able to request a pro-rata refund on the remainder of their yearly contract once Xbox entertainment apps such as Netflix ditch subscription fees.
"Once the Xbox One and Xbox 360 system updates become available in June, Xbox Live Gold members who purchased a paid membership before that day can cancel and receive a pro-rata refund of any unused remaining days between the date of cancellation and the date their paid Gold membership ends," reads a Microsoft statement.
Customers requiring refunds must contact Xbox Support by August 31. Refunds will take six to eight weeks to process.
Microsoft announced plans to ditch the paywall for entertainment apps alongside a Kinect-free Xbox One bundle.
The new version of the console will be sold for £349 / $399 without the camera accessory
starting June 9.
