Sony Pictures' is the latest with hopes to make a film based on the BioShock game franchise. We haven't heard much about a potential movie in a while; at last word Universal Pictures had been on board with Gore Verbinski directing but that was all the way back in 2011. Verbinski eventually walked off the project when he couldn't agree with the studio about making the film rated R; Universal was sketchy about a $200 million-budgeted film with the prohibitive rating and he left as a result. Bioshock creator Ken Levine blamed Watchmen at the time, saying that its R rating was perceived as having hurt the film's gross.
Now that Universal is off the project, Sony is ready it would seem. Kotaku reports that he film has registered three domains: BioShock-movie.com, BioShock-movie.net, and bio-shock.net. These would obviously suggest a film for the franchise, except in the unlikely event that the studio is planning to make a different film with that title.
No official confirmation from either Sony or Levine, so we'll see what happens from here.
