According to BBC News and other UK media outlets, UK wrestling promotion Butlins has apologized after being criticized for featuring an “Islamic flag-waving baddie” who the crowd were told to boo.
The character reportedly wielded a green flag emblazoned with Arabic writing, and was pitted against a Union Flag-bearing opponent during the Superslam show at Butlin’s in Skegness. After taking much criticism by fans who attended the show, in particular a father of two from from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the show’s promoters said they had made a “clear error of judgement”
