Sony may have revealed the planned title for the first Spider-Man Marvel Cinematic Universe solo film. The BBC reports that the studio, who is introducing Spidey as part of the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, has registered the domain name SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie.com.
While this is by no means any sort of confirmation — studios register websites of prospective titles sometimes to prevent them being bought and camped on by other people — it is a strong indication of what the title may be.
The “Homecoming” storyline in Spider-Man took place in 1984 after the original Secret Wars, after Peter Parker had gotten his new black costume (that would eventually become Venom). While it’s unlikely that Venom will appear in the film (he has his own non-MCU film in development), the parallels of Spider-Man coming home from Secret Wars and Civil War while possibly having a new outfit are introging. Captain America and Iron Man both appeared in the “Homecoming” story arc, which Tom DeFalco wrote.
Spider-Man will star Tom Holland in the title role and releases in 2017.
