Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick and Angel Di Maria grabbed two goals as Argentina beat Bolivia 5-0 in a Copa America warm-up match in San Juan.

Neither player showed any signs of fatigue at the end of the Premier League season but Bolivia were no match for Gerardo Martino's side, even with Lionel Messi absent as he was achieving Champions League glory with Barcelona in Berlin.

Di Maria had a frustrating first season with Manchester United, but he was named captain by Martino and opened the scoring with a fine goal on 25 minutes, taking a pass from Javier Pastore and firing past Bolivia 'keeper Romel Quinonez from 25 yards.

Argentina made it 2-0 four minutes later when Ezequiel Lavezzi was brought down in the box and Aguero continued his form from the end of Manchester City's season by converting from the spot.

A third goal came on 31 minutes when a Di Maria corner was cleared straight back to him, and his second cross was flicked past a helpless Quinonez by Aguero.

That was all the damage for the first half, but six minutes into the second period Aguero completed his hat-trick with a low shot that Quinonez could have done more to stop.

On 55 minutes, Argentina were awarded a second penalty for a Miguel Hurtado handball, and this time skipper Di Maria stepped up to make it 5-0.

A series of substitutions took the sting out of the game after the fifth goal but it was a more than handy workout for Argentina, who open their tournament against Paraguay on Saturday.

They are looking to make up for disappointment on home soil in the last Copa America in 2011, when they were knocked out on penalties by Uruguay in the quarter-finals - Uruguay went on to beat Paraguay 3-0 in the final, inspired by Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan.
