'Star Wars' actor Peter Mayhew has had both his knees replaced.
The 7ft 3in actor - who played Wookiee character Chewbacca in the original 'Star Wars' trilogy - had surgery on his legs on Monday (09.09.13) to help enable him to walk again.
It is understood the tall British-born star - who now lives in Texas - has been in a wheelchair for the last two years.
His family have been posting updates on his Twitter page as he recovers from the operation.
They wrote: ''We have made him bigger, stronger & faster; now if we can just get him out of bed! Taking it slow and steady.
''So you guys know, We're reading your comments to Peter. He's not up to tweeting yet but he appreciates all the love and support!''
The family also told how the hospital stocked Dr. Pepper - Peter's favourite soft drink - especially for him, and promised they would give an address for get well soon cards.
They tweeted: ''Lots of requests where to send get well cards and stuff. Once he's at the rehab hospital (Hope Friday) I will make sure to post it.''
The giant star has also been playing mobile game 'Angry Birds 2' after creators of the game, Rovio, sent him a version to play.
