Colossal, a giant monster movie that is currently being shopped around Cannes, is being slapped with a lawsuit, claiming that the film is an outright unauthorized Godzilla film, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

Colossal, which stars Anne Hathaway, tells the story of a woman who feels that her mind is connected with a giant monster that is destroying Tokyo. The site says that it’s, “…described as ‘Godzilla’ meets ‘Being John Malkovich’.”

But Toho, the rights holders to the Godzilla franchise, says that the filmmakers, “…are brazenly producing, advertising, and selling an unauthorized Godzilla film of their own.”

Some fairly serious evidence comes from comments that Colossal director Nacho Vigalondo stated in a 2014 interview: “It’s going to be the cheapest ‘Godzilla’ movie ever, I promise. It’s going to be a serious ‘Godzilla’ movie, but I’ve got an idea that’s going to make it so cheap that you will feel betrayed.”
