WWE Business Numbers: Live Event Attendance, Merchandise & DVD Sales Empty

Numbers are in for January and February, and WWE live attendance has remained consistent with an average of 6,600 paid tickets for U.S. house shows. This is consistent with the 6,455 average in 2014 and 6,474 average in 2013.

In even better news, WWE is pushing an incredible amount of merchandise through their website. On average they’re selling 1,357 orders per day which is up over 60% from what they were doing in the same time frame last year.

Unfortunately their DVD sales are down big time, over 70% in January and February combined. There are likely multiple factors including the WWE Network having so much in the way of “free” content, but it also comes down to the popularity of year-end releases. The fourth quarter of 2013 saw the release of a Triple H and Goldberg collection, the 50th anniversary and RAW 20th anniversary specials and the usual PPV’s. Fourth quarter of 2014 saw the Sting collection, the Slam City network shorts, “True Giants” and the usual PPV’s.

While live events have stayed consistent and website sales have skyrocketed, ticket sales from the last tour in Abu Dhabi were ugly. Out of the 14,200 fans in attendance only 5,100 of them had actually purchased their seats. The previous year’s tour had a legitimate 15,000 tickets sold — and that’s with the highest ticket prices WWE had ever charged for a live event, anywhere in the world.
