As with any rumor, we’d caution you to take this info with a grain of salt. Marvel and Sony haven’t said anything, and there’s still time for them to make up their minds. That said, Sneider tends to be reliable and responsible. It’s unlikely he’d make such a major claim without some good inside info.

Interestingly, Sneider thinks the Sony hack may have played a role in the decision to cast a non-white Spider-Man.

I really feel strongly. Sony has an opportunity to beat Marvel and DC to the punch with a major black comic book character. Like I mentioned last week, the emails that leaked were perceived as racist in some quarters. I really think that’s going to play into things.

If the Sony hack did have something to do with this decision I can see it as being a smart move by the company to try to at least appear to save grace, but it could also allow for the tried and true, Peter Parker origin story to finally be left behind. I can’t imagine any audiences are keen on seeing a rehash of Peter’s origin, and frankly, the world of cinema is ready for Miles Morales. It’s something dynamically different that would allow the “Marvel” version of the character to stand out, and something that the MCU could take responsibility for, and even land the first major black superhero on screen before Black Panther. PLUS we could have an alternate universe where Peter Parker simply never existed leading to an eventual on screen team up with Miles and Peter, and allowing the old plans to come back into the fold. I KNOW that’s wild, but so are comic books.

This new Spider-Man gets his first solo film on July 28, 2017. However, he’s expected to debut in Captain America: Civil War, due out May 5, 2016.

You're taking using something basic - like using comic book characters that were IN THE STORY and interpreting it as using the comic as a script. Don't be stupid, the two are not even remotely related.

In comic books, it's not about the personas but the names. When a graphic novel is made, the main characters are issued. The main characters of Civil War are NOT Iron Man, Captain America, and Spider-Man. They are Tony Stark, Bucky Barnes, and Peter Parker. Please, learn to comic.

However, it should at least get down the main characters correctly. In Civil War, the main characters are Peter Parker, Tony Stark, and Steve Rodgers. It's a huge turning point for PETER PARKER.

If you follow the comics and want things done a certain way (for example, Miles being inspired by Peter) then yes, it's a HORRIBLE idea.

To be honest, I don't care. Whether it's Peter Parker or Miles Morales, the MCU should be a separate entity than one of the many numerous universes in Marvel. You're saying it should be Peter Parker, Tony Stark, and Steve Rogers because in the comics, those are the major players. Well, that's the comics. So why not, in the movies, let it be Miles? Or y'know what? Instead of Spider-Man... let's go with Venom. Let's have Venom be a major player instead. It should be a different entity; a different universe. Like how there's two running versions of Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch; one for the X-Men universe and one for the Avengers. Of course they need to take inspiration from. For all we know, Thor and Captain America are going to die in Age of Ultron. After all, they keep teasing it. So maybe Sam Wilson will take Captain America's place. This is all stuff that the creators can do.

But what if instead of that, they changed all the main characters, used some elements of the comic book story but then completely changed the story, and made all the zombies into superpowered mutants that shoot laser beams out of their eyes.

Once again, you continue to assume that I am saying to follow the comic books 100%. I'm not saying that, but if you're going to use the story, at least follow the MAJOR ASPECTS of it - like the 3 most important characters.

Honestly? Yes. Poor choice of an argument there. That sounds amazing. No more Carl. No more Eugene. And mutants with laser beams?!

Because it's not a small character change. It's a major character change. Like, really really big. Peter is one of the three main characters of Civil War, he has to be in it. What was the use in going through that big hassle to get the rights to Spider-Man just to change him for a sad attempt to add diversity? it's stupid and pointless.

If you want to add diversity, do it the right way. By making new characters that people will love. IE: Batwoman, Cyborg, Black Panther, etc. and use them fitting. But that's a completely different argument.
