During an appearance on TSN’s “Off The Record” this week to discuss Anderson Silva’s failed drug test, former UFC star Chael Sonnen says he is heading to WrestleMania to talk with WWE. Sonnen didn’t elaborate on why he’s heading to ‘Mania, but he said he was invited out, and has been given a great seat to the event.

Sonnen adds that former UFC star Wanderlei Silva has also been invited to attend WrestleMania, but he doesn’t yet know if Silva has accepted WWE’s invite.

As we reported last night, former UFC star Chael Sonnen claimed during a TSN “Off the Record” appearance that WWE had invited both him and Wanderlei Silva to WrestleMania this year to talk business. WWE has since issued a statement denying any invitation has been made to have Sonnen attend WrestleMania.

According to The Wrestling Observer, WWE has wanted to work with Chael Sonnen for quite sometime, however when he tested positive for steroids, WWE decided to back off on negotiating with him until the steroid heat/label ran its course. Once ESPN began working with Sonnen and made his name more mainstream again, it seemed likely WWE would once again pursue negotiations.

With regards to why WWE might be wanting to negotiate with Sonnen and/or Silva, speculation is everything from pro wrestling to them having an exhibition fight. At one point, WWE was interested in having Sonnen work for the company as an announcer.

This is very odd. A lot of he said, she said, statements. The interest on WWE's part, and how they wanted the heat to die down Sonnen is also odd. Wanderlei Silva was last seen in the UFC for straight refusing to take a drug test. The report is that the NSAC went to Silva's gym and Wand literally ran out the back door. He now has a lifetime ban from the NSAC and retired from MMA as well. Sonnen has popped several times including his last UFC outing.

I personally hate Sonnen and long been aware of him way before he became famous, for almost winning a fight against then champion of his division: Anderson Silva -- Anderson who less than two weeks ago also just pissed hot for steroids

I love Wanderlei and again have been familiar with him for over a decade since his PRIDEFC days. I would honestly love to see both in WWE, but the capacity seems extremely-insanely limited. Sonnen is an okay talker, but he's average at best IMO. Wand can barely speak english and has a thick broken accent when he does talk in english. Neither know how to bump. Both are in their late 30s and have extremely significant injuries and wear-and-tear on their bodies. Wand more than Sonnen.
