The WWE and CM Punk parted ways more than one year ago, but the departure of the former WWE Champion is apparently still a sore subject for Vince McMahon and the rest of the company.

On this week’s SmackDown, the WWE had an announcement that Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, and Erick Rowan would be returning. In Ziggler’s in-ring promo, he took a shot at CM Punk.

“I’d rather sit here in this ring and face any punishment they give me every day for the rest of my life than sit at home on some couch, complaining on a podcast.”

The broadcast suggests that the bad blood between CM Punk and Vince McMahon persists. Back in December, CM Punk explained his reasons for leaving the WWE, saying the constant work was a drain on his body and that he felt slighted from not being able to win the big matches.

CM Punk was also upset that he received his termination papers on his wedding day. Vince McMahon then appeared on “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s podcast and apologized for the wedding day mishap.

McMahon also struck a hopeful tone, saying, “I hope that one day, we’ll be able to get back together soon.”

But CM Punk seemed content with being gone from the WWE.

“It’s way too f***ing early, I have no interest in f***ing going back,” Punk said.

“The difference in my appearance, my mental stability, everything across the board, now from 9 or 10 months ago, is so drastically different.”

CM Punk added that he wasn’t too interested in Vince McMahon’s apology.

“I don’t want to hear ‘It was a coincidence, the lawyers didn’t talk to talent relations.’… My wife asked for that time off so she could a) get married and b) go on her honeymoon…. They knew. If the apology was sincere, you wouldn’t use it as a publicity stunt on Austin’s podcast… You have my phone number, you have my address, you could text, you could call, you could show up when you’re a 10-minute f***ing drive from my house and apologize to me like a man. That’s the f***ing reality of it. That’s the f***ing timeline, ladies and gentlemen.”

Though many fans hoped CM Punk could one day return to the WWE, his statements and the latest SmackDown insult seem to indicate that the door is permanently closed.

That was, nonetheless, a low blow by WWE. And no one in the audience understood, fortunately for them. I was thinking "Oh crap... here come the CM Punk chants"
