The Wrestling Observer (via Rajah) reports that WWE may be considering changing its Wrestlemania 31 plans. It’s been rumored that the plan was for Brock Lesnar to go into the event as champion to defend against Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns, cementing Reigns’ role as the new face of the company. This means that Lesnar would defeat John Cena at the Royal Rumble in January.

The belief is that the match with Reigns won’t mean as much if they can’t sign Lesnar to a new deal and everyone knows its his last match. WWE isn’t sure about signing Lesnar because his price tag may not justify using him outside of shows like Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania. WWE Battleground (in July) had 31,000 buys on PPV in North America without Lesnar. WWE Night of Champions (in September) had 30,000 with Lesnar. Some shows without Lesnar have actually sold more worldwide than those with him.

At one point, WWE was hoping to sign Lesnar to a new deal and give him a run as a face. This could still happen but it depends on if WWE feels his asking price is worth it.

The current “plan B” would be for Cena to beat Lesnar at the Rumble, setting up Cena vs. Reigns at Wrestlemania (with Reigns winning). It’s also possible that they would put the title on Seth Rollins and let Reigns beat him, but WWE feels like it wouldn’t mean as much if Reigns doesn’t beat Lesnar or Cena.

Roman beating someone that's been in the company as long as he has won't mean as much, I get that. Beating Cena would probably be fine, but I still think Lesnar would be the best guy to put Roman over. I don't know if signing Lesnar to a new deal would really matter, since the same people who would know if he was sticking around have already known for almost a year that he's going to lose to Roman at WM31.
