| Subject: New “Walking Dead” Series Will Be “Startlingly Different” Fri Jan 16, 2015 6:49 pm | |
| http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3328463/tv-new-walking-dead-series-will-startlingly-different/
Regular Bloody readers know two things about me regarding “The Walking Dead”…I absolutely love the Image comic series, yet can’t stand AMC’s show. I understand that a lot of you guys really, really like it, so I’m not going to rain on the parade, but what I will say is that I am now officially intrigued by the forthcoming companion series.
EW caught up with “The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman who is finally talking about the spinoff, codenamed “Cobalt”. What he says is exactly what I wanted to hear. But before we get to that, here’s a very vague description of the arc.
“I will say that this is going to be a show about family,” says Kirkman. “But it’s going to be a show about a different type of family that we haven’t explored in The Walking Dead thus far. So what we’re trying to do with The Walking Dead spinoff is keep the story as familiar as possible for people that love The Walking Dead, so you’ll get the kind of things that you expect from a Walking Dead story. But, at the same time, we’ll want to tell these stories in a completely different way with completely different people in a completely different setting that’s going to make for a fundamentally different show.
“I think the look and feel of The Walking Dead spinoff is going to be startlingly different.”
This is exactly what I wanted to hear. I wanted to love “The Walking Dead” more than anything in the world. And its success should be celebrated as it has opened so many doors for horror-themed television. But, frankly, it’s not good. Now, what I love about the above quote is that it feels as if he’s speaking to the fans, which means he’s forewarning them that they shouldn’t expect the same old song and dance. The show is so popular that, by no means, does he need to convince the haters to tune in when it airs later this year. Thus, I can only conclude that he’s been honest and forthcoming in the interview, which means that the new companion series deserves a real chance.
This fresh approach makes me think that it’s possible that Kirkman and the producing team have learned from years of mistakes. We can only hope that this new series is going to be an incredible (or, for fans of “The Walking Dead”, even better) experience.
Kirkman eludes to this as well, stating that it’s a new beginning, even for viewers.
“We want it to be a new show that can stand on its own… You could watch The Walking Dead spinoff if you’ve never watched an episode of The Walking Dead and get a really great, rich, fulfilling experience out of it. It has to be a show that can stand on its own. I think that’s what we’ve accomplished, and we start filming in a couple of days.
“I’m really excited.” |

| Subject: Here’s What Happens In “The Walking Dead” Spinoff’s Pilot! Wed Jan 21, 2015 11:58 am | |
| http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3328906/tv-heres-happens-walking-dead-spinoffs-pilot/
It’s been revealed that the still untitled “Walking Dead” spinoff, code name “Cobalt,” takes place during the same zombie apocalypse in AMC series – only in Los Angeles. It’s said to revolve around a divorced teacher (Cliff Curtis) and a guidance counselor (Kim Dickens), who are working together and are in a relationship. The counselor has two children from a previous marriage, played by Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey.
It was as confirmed as it can get that Bleeding Cool got their hands on the pilot script, titled “Fear the Walking Dead,” that was written by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson.
While script pages posted online have been removed, we still learned quite a bit about the spinoff, including that it takes place at the very beginning of zombie infestation, and that the characters don’t even believe it’s real.
“The intro gives you a swerve, but the infection has not taken hold yet. The “walkers” are not yet known to the population at large, as society stands on the cusp of its own destruction,” explains the site.
The script also introduces a rather disfunctional family – “an older one than Rick’s, here are a mother and a soon-to-be-stepfather, teachers Madison and Travis, and their older teenage children, Alicia and Ian, Travis’ ex Liza and their teenage son Christopher, in a family about to break apart.”
Doing a complete 180 on the characters, the site reveals that “Drugs, illness, self-harm, set in Los Angeles, this is not so much a nuclear family as a dirty bomb. Rick’s family were torn apart, this family are there from the beginning.”
And as eluded to before, the zombie apocalypse is urban legend, and the family has no idea what’s about to broadside them.
“Because the dead are coming, An urban legend, underground, being spread from person to person,” they explain. “It plays the fact that we, the audience, know far more about what’s going on than anything else does and keeps teasing us toward the inevitable, in much the same way that Gotham does, but in the knowledge that it’s going to be over far sooner.
“These people all have plans, some in LA, some out, and we all know they are never going to pursue their dreams. This is not “The Walking Dead,” it’s somewhere else entirely.”
This all but confirms what Kirkman said in an interview stating that the new series will be startlingly different. |

| Subject: AMC Orders Two Seasons of “The Walking Dead” Spin-Off! Mon Mar 09, 2015 8:43 pm | |
| http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3335362/amc-orders-two-seasons-walking-dead-spin/ - Quote :
- “The Walking Dead” fans, hang on to your butts.
Huge news dropped this afternoon that AMC has ordered two seasons of a spin-off series to be executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert. Plot details are scarce, but AMC president Charles Collier has stated that the series will explore “what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’”
The new series (title to be announced) will be set in Los Angeles and focused on new characters and storylines. The show’s first season will consist of six one-hour episodes and premiere on AMC in late summer. The show’s second season will air in 2016.
Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert from “The Walking Dead” are executive producers of the new series, which, like the original, is being produced by AMC Studios. Dave Erickson (“Marco Polo,” “Sons of Anarchy”), who co-created and co-wrote the pilot with Kirkman, is an executive producer and showrunner. The series will star Cliff Curtis (“Missing,” “Gang Related”), Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, “Sons of Anarchy”), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm).
“We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the number one show on television. From the beginning of ‘The Walking Dead’ on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’ Through this new series, we’re going to find out,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “Robert Kirkman, Dave Erickson and their writing team, along with an incomparable set of producers, cast and crew have created something remarkable and clearly distinct. We respectfully follow the request of Monty Python as we bring out (the latest of) our Dead.”
“We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC,” Kirkman said. “I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we’ve accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story. I’m very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to ‘The Walking Dead.’”
“This vote of confidence from our partners at AMC is gratifying, to say the least,” Erickson said. “We’ve been blessed with amazing writers and a stellar cast – and we can’t wait to build this apocalyptic drama over the next two seasons and hopefully beyond.” |

| Subject: “The Walking Dead” Season 6 Reveals Comic Origin Story! Mon Jul 06, 2015 1:41 pm | |
| http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3351568/walking-dead-season-6-reveals-comic-origin-story/
Robert Kirkman’s seemingly endless “The Walking Dead” comic continues to shamble on, much like AMC’s adaptation heads into its sixth season.
And while the “Walking Dead” series has creating its own timeline of events and characters, showrunner Scott M. Gimple reveals that the sixth season will reveal the original to the ongoing Image comic series.
“I think there’s a really cool aspect to the first half of the season that serves almost as a prequel to some direct comic stuff in the second half of the season,” he tells EW. “I think there’s a way that Robert did some of the story that we’re reaching that had a real past to it, where people are referring to some things in the past in the comic. And we’re able to portray some of that backstory in some ways that you didn’t get to see in the comic.”
And while we’ll get to see some of the past, there’s a strong focus on the future.
Season 5 ended with Rick seizing control of Alexandria, but it’s unclear if they’ll stand behind him. One thing is for certain, there’s a slew of new characters to be introduced that may or may not become allies. The best part? They will be people you recognize from Kirkman’s comics.
“We have seen Heath on the internet when we announced it. Corey Hawkins is playing him, and he’s terrific and I’m so excited to see him bring Heath to life,” says Gimple. It’s been fun and he dove in with both feet. He’s tough and skeptical when the cameras are rolling, and then when they’re off he’s just like a goofy fan. He’s really, really excited to be there. There are other people that we’re going to see throughout the season from the comics, and I’m excited for people to see it, but I don’t want to tell them now. I think a few minor remixes, but some direct stuff from the comic as well, as far as these characters go.”
“The Walking Dead” returns to AMC this October. |

| Ok so the season 6 premiere is October 11th. For some reason, even though I loved the last season and show as a whole, I'm really not that excited for this to return. Maybe when it gets closer to the return. |

| Subject: AMC Planning Second ‘The Walking Dead’ Companion Series?! Fri Jan 08, 2016 2:46 pm | |
| http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3375944/the-walking-dead-universe-is-rich-enough-for-more-companion-series-says-amc-exec/
AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is easily one of the biggest things on TV right now and even with recent allegations about how the cast and crew are treated by executives, it’s still something that is actively being pushed and given a lot of attention. That’s why we’ve gotten “Fear the Walking Dead“, which finished its first season mid-last year and will see a second season later this year.
Now, in an interview with Vulture, AMC network chief Charlie Collier gave a solid answer regarding the possibility of seeing more companion shows along the same lines as “Fear the Walking Dead”:
The answer is we are open to ideas that feel organic to the creators in whom we’ve put our trust. So if Robert had a world he wanted to explore, you can bet that we are not just leaning into that conversation, but we’re actively engaging in it. Right now we’re not in that conversation, and there’s nothing to report at all. I’m a huge believer in Robert and the executive producers of these shows. We wanted to create a place where they would bring us their creative dreams and bring us their passion projects. If Robert had another one, we would absolutely engage. This is a world that is rich enough to handle it. Right now we’re just focused on these two.
Collier is also very adamant that they are not doing “spin-offs”, elaborating on calling them “companion shows”, stating, “If we had taken a couple of characters out of the camp and sent them on the road and followed that — that would have been a spinoff. We didn’t do that. We made the decision … to do a companion series, and, in fact, to show you what was happening in the world when Rick was sleeping in the original series.”
The reception towards season one of “Fear the Walking Dead” wasn’t too warm and there are many who feel that “The Walking Dead” still suffers from a lot of issues, even though we’re in the sixth season with no end in sight. |

| Finally finished Telltale's Walking Dead series. It's too bad this is the end because game play season 4 is probably the best game. There's still a lot of quick time events but some of the game was like a third person shooter. And influencing AJ was really interesting. It added a lot more drama into the game that I actually cared about. Honestly I didn't care about staying at the school but legit AJ wanting to stay there would have kept me there.
I think the story does stand on it's own. Of course I already cared about Clementine and AJ but the new characters were interesting. I don't read the comics or watch the show so what was new for me might not been for everyone else? |
