Ring of Honor taped August's television episodes this weekend, and the hunt to crown a new ROH World Heavyweight Champion kicked off with first round tournament action in Providence, RI.

-ACH and Tadarius Thomas are now being called "Adrenaline Rush" and will continue working together as a tag team.

-Nigel McGuinness came out and talked about the ROH World title being vacant, and having to strip Jay Briscoe because he wasn't cleared to compete by doctors. He announced the tournament will begin in two weeks, so it looks like the first round matches won't begin until the August 17th taped episode. He also said the focus for the rest of the summer would be on the tag team division, and he will personally be bringing in wrestlers from all around the world.
-ReDRagon came down to talk to Nigel, and announced that they wanted to put the straps on the line tonight against the IWGP tag team champions. This brought out the American Wolves, and Davey Richards said that no matter who holds the titles, they were coming to get their belts back.

-Cheeseburger rushed the ring after the match to save "Brutal" Bob from an assault, but Bennett hit him with a piledriver for his trouble.
(2) MsChif def. Bonesaw Brookes
(3) Kevin Steen, Tamasso Ciampa & Michael Elgin def. The American Wolves & BJ Whitmer in a match that went almost 25-minutes.

-Nigel McGuinness came down to the ring with Cary Silken and Jeff Koff to announce the start of the ROH World Championship tournament.

Jay Lethal def. Sonjay Dutt with a superkick to the back of the head, followed by the Lethal Injection
-Jay Lethal advances in the world title tournament. He will be facing either Adam Cole or Mark Briscoe in the second round.
Ring of Honor TV Air Date: August 24, 2013 (1) ROH World Television Championship Matt Taven def. Brian Fury to retain. It looks like the match Fury won during week #3 was a #1 contender's match. -Michael Elgin came down and cut a promo about giving up his #1 contenders spot to earn his world championship by winning the tournament. Kevin Steen came down and called him a liar. Steen said that Elgin knows he can't beat him, and Michael Bennett came out to interrupt them. He talked about being the next world champion, and being held back because people think he's leaving Ring of Honor. Tamasso Ciampa is out next to add his two cents to the issue. A whole crew of refs come to the ring to make sure these guys don't go at it. (2) Tournament Match "Machine Gun" Karl Anderson def. ACH -Karl Anderson advances in the world title tournament. He will be facing either Michael Elgin or Paul London in the second round. (3) Tournament Match Adam Cole def. Mark Briscoe. Cole isn't quite a full heel yet, but he continued teasing the turn by using the Jay Driller - Mark's brother's finisher - to win the match. -Adam Cole advances in the world title tournament, and will face Jay Lethal in the second round. |
