Imagine with The Carter Family's money what if instead of being trying to be a continuation of The Attitude Era instead TNA was a more realistic product? Maybe they could have beat UFC to the punch to draw in all those fans that stopped watching wrestling after WCW died.

There was a company that tried that. Real Pro Wrestling. They were on ESPN and everything. It didn't last a year

There is a want for a more serious product. Even before WCW died a lot of fans stopped watching pro wrestling all together. WWE didn't give them what they wanted so they watched MMA instead. UFC took what made pro wrestling great and made tons of money.

There were many promotions that died out. The AWA and GWF were also on ESPN and they died out as well. Being on a big network isn't the only part to success. Look at TNA for example. They were a staple on Spike but were taken off. It wasn't that ratings were bad but Dixie Carter lied about employing Vince Russo. That had zero to do with the product.

Why did JCP die? Because Jim Crockett was trying to expand outside the South East and while his product was cooling off he put The World Title on Ron Garvin. There were also several other blunders that didn't help him.

Why did WCW die? Because AOL executives did not have the same feelings for Pro Wrestling that Ted Turner did and he sold his power.

UFC was able to grab the old fans of the 90s because wwe started to ignore that fan base. The edgey product was no more. UFC yes legit fighting but had colorful people. Those press interviews sometimes were more entertaining then the fight that lead up to it

If you looked at the ratings WWE not only didn't get the people who watched WCW but their ratings went down as well.

As for edge I'd say UFC was far more edgy with their no holds barred fights from their first card than they were in 2005.

Also UFC has lost a lot in popularity. Whose the biggest star in UFC? Connor? That's one guy. Ages ago UFC was filled with big stars in every division

That's what happens when you sell stars instead of a brand.

WWE sells it's brand instead of stars. Doing that'll they'll never be hot like they were in the '80s or late '90s. But they're not going to have the low of the early '90s either.

What core values? I'd like you to list some things before I go deeper into this.

That's okay. I'm just going to say that the one true core value of pro wrestling is to make money. But even that isn't important to every promoter. A money mark like Ted Turner is a great example.

Pro Wrestling grew from several different worlds. That of carnies who liked to stretch people and legitimate contests that happened in the ring. It became clear that people didn't want to see guys grapple each other for over three hours. But how do you have contests that are about an hour or under and make it more exciting without killing each other. The answer was to fake it.

There were always goofs in pro wrestling. Even as early as the 1930s there were guys who wrestle each other in ice cream matches.

Maybe Mick Foley is right and the best way to do pro wrestling is make it a verity show. I don't think that's true but that's just my opinion. And he's a former WWF World Heavyweight Champion while I'm just a dude on the internet so I'm not going to pretend my opinion has more weight than his.

Do I think there should be zero comedy in wrestling? That's not what I'm saying. But it should be organic instead of trying to make things a clown show. Are people at the circus trying to sell pay per views to you? No because it's a completely different business. If they could they would but the fact is outside fights and pornography nobody else does well selling pay per views.

One of my favorite angles of all time is funny. Jim Cornette is throwing a party on Mid-South TV for The Midnight Express who won the tag team titles. He's cutting a cake. But The Rock And Roll Express come out and shove his face into the cake. Hilarious right?

But it was done to build heat. It was done to move a storyline. And I'd bet you $1,000 that when the two teams did a match at The Superdome they didn't do a comedy match.

That's how you do comedy right.

I think it would be a huge leap to compare that to Joey Ryan's penis spot or anything that happens in Chikara.

Now I have a serious question. What does Joey Ryan's penis spot build to? Does it make people want to see Joey Ryan wrestle again? Does it make them want to see a rematch? Does it make people wonder what would happen it Ryan was forced to wear a chastity lock? Tell me how it makes people want to buy a ticket to the next show.

I think it does the opposite. Not only does it make Ryan look like a joke comedy wrestler but it makes the person taking the bump look like a goof. It makes the promotion that allows that to happen look stupid and second rate. It disgusts people and makes people think that yes pro wrestling is a joke and you should watch it let alone buy a ticket to any pro wrestling shows.

Joey Ryan is allowed to do whatever he wants. I lay the blame on these promoters. It's their call on what happens in the ring.

Look at Chikara. It doesn't take talent to do some of the funny things they perpetrate in the ring. So why are they not hot anymore? The fact is casual fans look at it and think it's a joke. And it is. That's their draw. So why don't they do the crowds they use to? Because they don't have the stars anymore and people are over it. It was hot, if you can call it that, for awhile and people grew sick of it.
