Speaking to The Wrap, actor Anthony Hopkins revealed that he regrets reprising his iconic role of Hannibal Lecter for the films Hannibal and Red Dragon. Hopkins’ work as Lecter won him an Academy Award for Silence of the Lambs. However, he revealed that he has no intention to ever return to the role.
On playing Lecter, Hopkins stated, “I did it once. Made the mistake of doing it twice, three times.” He added, “The Silence of the Lambs is okay. It was a good film.”
When he was asked if he might reprise the role of Lecter again, Hopkins said, “No. I don’t want to do that. Done with that.”
Lecter was also portrayed by Brian Cox in the 1986 film Manhunter. More recently, Mads Mikkelsen played the role in the Hannibal TV series on NBC.
Hopkins is set to appear in the new HBO series Westworld, which premieres later this year.
