Capcom has confirmed that the upcoming Resident Evil 2 will be a remake, and not a remaster.
The publisher's recent investor report stated that the game would be a "remastered" version, but Capcom UK's senior marketing director Stuart Turner clarified on Twitter that it had been a "mistranslation" and the classic horror game would be "a full from the ground up remake NOT a remaster."
Capcom confirmed the remake was in development in August.
"You've been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade, and we haven't been able to make it happen...until now!" Hirabayashi said in Capcom's "Special Message" announcement. "We at R&D Division 1 will do our best to take on your feedback and deliver the gameplay experience you've been waiting for."
In our review of the remake of the original game, Resident Evil, we gave it an 8, stating "Resident Evil does a good job of updating the look and feel of a classic survival horror game for a new audience".
