During a call with investors today, EA revised its earlier estimate of Star Wars Battlefront sales numbers, increasing the total by 3 million copies.
"We feel very good about 13 million units," EA chief operating officer Peter Moore said. In May of this year, EA was aiming for 10 million copies of Star Wars Battlefront.
Calling its Battlefront and Battlefield franchises "two bookends," the earlier prediction took the historical Battlefront games into account, which normally sell around 9 million copies, and revised it based on the excitement surrounding the Star Wars license attached to the upcoming game.
The Star Wars Battlefront beta was played by over 9 million people, making it EA's biggest beta in history. After the beta, Han Solo, Leia, and Emperor Palpatine were announced as playable heroes in the upcoming game. Star Wars Battlefront is scheduled for release on November 17.
Earlier this month, EA announced the season pass for Star Wars Battlefront will cost $50. The pass will include 4 expansion packs, two-weeks early access to the expansions, and a "Shoot First" emote, which will hopefully just make your avatar move its neck weirdly to dodge an incoming laser blast.
All in all, it was a good quarter for EA, with EA's sports franchises making it the top console publisher in the west.
