MIKE LAMAR is eagerly standing by backstage with a microphone in hand waiting to introduce the next segment.

MIKE LAMAR: “Ladies and gentlemen, at this time I would like to welcome the newest XWA superstar, Bruce…”

A tall man with wild curly hair steps into the shot and slaps Mike Lamar on the back, nearly knocking the smaller man over and causing Lamar to drop the microphone. Lamar bends over to pick it up while the man sheepishly apologises.

MIKE LAMAR: “As I was saying, the newest XWA superstar, Bruce Benjamin!”

BRUCE BENJAMIN: “Sorry, about that mate, thought you said to come in when you said me name. I’m all over the shop at the moment, bloody head over biscuit and didn’t wanna make a blue of things but I’m absolutely chuffed to be here, hey.”

MIKE LAMAR: “Right… So, tonight, you make your debut against a veteran here in XWA in Evan Flare. Do you have any thoughts or feelings going into the match?”

BRUCE BENJAMIN: “Mate, if you’d a asked me if I ever thought in a dog’s year I’d be here in XWA about to go up against Evan Flare, I would’ve knocked back the question itself. I’ve been busting for a bit of meat since I landed here and now I’m gonna get the chance to go out and put on a slobber knocker and no offence to you, mate, Evan Flare, but you might be getting the pink slip once the blokes running this joint get a look at me.”

MIKE LAMAR: “Do you have a specific game plan when it comes to matches like this?”

BRUCE BENJAMIN: “Into ‘em, basically, up the guts and then swing it hard and then, uh, pinning the other bloke, hey.”

MIKE LAMAR: “Right, and do you have a specific target in mind or a goal you want to achieve in XWA?”

BRUCE BENJAMIN: “Aw, well I’m not about to go the raw prawn on you, I’m not here to be a show pony or be up myself but I think I can go a long way here in XWA. I’m here to dig in and put in the hard yakka and we’ll see what comes of it though. All I’ve gotta tell you is I’m true blue and dinkum as can be and hoping to start up a rip snorter of a career so what’ll be will be, mate.”

Bruce Benjamin turns and walks out of the shot as Mike Lamar watches after him, thoroughly confused as to what exactly Benjamin said in the interview.

Love the character, even if I understood about 5% of what he was saying. I look forward to seeing where you go with him and if you actually stick around this time.
