Destiny was the largest new franchise launch in video game history and ranks among the top ten largest video game launches of all time, according to publisher Activision.

To date, the game has more than 9.5 million registered users and active players are playing the game three hours a day on average, according to the publisher's quarterly report released today.

In September, Activision announced that the game had sold through more than $325 million worth of products in its first five days of availability. Today, the company said the game had non-GAAP revenues of more than $500 million in its third quarter.

Destiny's success, according to Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, helped drive the company's "record" third-quarter results.

More details, perhaps including hard sales numbers, are expected during the company's earnings call at 4:30 p.m. ET today.
