MATCH 6.) DC Hennig vs. Akira Kobayashi Empty
PostSubject: Re: MATCH 6.) DC Hennig vs. Akira Kobayashi   MATCH 6.) DC Hennig vs. Akira Kobayashi EmptySat Aug 23, 2014 11:58 pm

DING! DING! DING!

At the sound of the bell, a rambunctious crowd of nearly 20,000 take their seats and marvel at the sight of the two competitors in the ring. DC Hennig and Akira Kobayashi stand tall in the center of the ring, eyes locked and focused, and in their momentary standoff/staredown, exceptional differences amongst the two men become evident. Hennig's gleaming blonde hair shines brightly underneath the powerful lights above the ring, much like the glossy appearance of his pink wrestling tights; both serve as an appropriate representation of the loud, boisterous, and cavalier attitude of a man who calls himself "Mr. Phenomenal." Meanwhile, Akira Kobayashi stands inches away, the light from the rafters sucked away into nothingness by his pitch-black hair, trunks, and kneepads; truly the image of a man who needs no flashy gimmicks, looks, or flair, but would rather let his wrestling prowess do the talking. And yet, in spite of their clear differences in nature, the two competitors are near reflections of one another as they stand eye-to-eye, determined to prove to each other and to the millions watching live that they are simply the best that the world has to offer. Kobayashi breaks the staredown by extending his hand toward Hennig, in an apparent show of respect. Hennig obliges, giving Kobayashi a firm handshake and an even stronger smirk, exhibiting a peculair mix of humility and cockiness. Nonetheless, the handshake draws a warm reception from the live audience as the two men take a step back, sizing one another up and planning their first attack.

CEDAR
"And here we go folks, it's DC Hennig vs. Akira Kobayashi for the first time ever here on Vendetta. And let me tell ya Joey, I've been anticipating this match-up since I first read it on the line-up. Here we have to of the most dedicated performers that professional wrestling has ever seen, going one-on-one, mano-e-mano, putting it all on the line for the thrill of --"

MILES
"Oh my God Ted, enough. The bell just fucking rang and you're already boring me to tears. Christ, man... yeah I get it, "thrill of the action," "spirit of competition," all that bullshit... just give it a fucking rest already. For once, ONCE, I'm encouraging you to stuff your fat face with barbeque chicken or pork or whatever-the-fuck, just please stop talking."

CEDAR
"Oh stahp it. I have every reason to be excited Joey, as this match has the potential to be an absolute barn-burner. Mark my words Joey, we're about to witness something spectacular here tonight."

DC Hennig lunges forward at Kobayashi, looking to grapple, but the veteran Kobayashi seamlessly sidesteps Mr. Phenomenal and throws Hennig off his feet with a quick and efficient Arm Drag. Hennig's momentum carries him onto his feet, and he doesn't miss a beat as he quickly charges at Kobayashi again, only to fall prey to another flawless Arm Drag. Once again, Hennig rolls directly onto his feet, and again darts towards his clever opponent. But this time, as Kobayashi attempts an impressive hat-trick, Hennig plants his feet and blocks Kobayashi's arm, then swings forward with his free arm for an attempted Lariat. But Akira instinctively ducks underneath Hennig's swinging arm, and just as Hennig turns back around to meet his opponent, Akira goes to kick Hennig right in the abdomen. Mr. Phenomenal catches Akira's boot before it makes contact, though, and Akira swings his other leg around and into the air, looking to connect with Hennig's temple for an Enzuiguri. The attempt, albeit impressive, is unsuccessful as Hennig ducks underneath the kick while still holding onto Akira's other foot, but as soon as Akira's foot lands on the mat, he surprises Hennig by spinning back around, as if somebody had hit the rewind button on their remote control. The sole of Akira's boot plants firmly into Hennig's sternum, successfully turning a missed Enzuiguri into a Leg-Feed Rolling Mule Kick, which sends DC Hennig stumbling backwards into the ropes. Hennig bounces lightly off the ropes and comes back to Akira, who positions his arm underneath Hennig's armpit and attempts to lift him off the ground with a Hip Toss. But Hennig sandbags the attempt, planting his feet firmly on the ground, then quietly sticks his right foot out behind Akira's ankle and shoves his opponent backwards, swiftly knocking "The Black Heart Warrior" off his feet and onto his back. Before Hennig can even think of capitalizing, though, Akira pivots around and spins his leg into Hennig's, knocking Mr. Phenomenal to the mat with a standard, yet effective, Leg Sweep. Hennig and Kobayashi both hurriedly scramble back onto their feet, but stop as soon as they turn to meet each other, both frozen in a tense action stance that one might see on a movie poster. Though both men are poised and ready to attack, they soon loosen up and share a reluctantly impressed gaze, as the XWA Universe is emphatic in their applause of both of these fine competitors.

CEDAR
"My gawd what a display already Joey, back-and-forth, back-and-forth. It's like watching Forrest Gump play ping pong against a wall."

MILES
"Wait, in that analogy, which one is the mentally retarded half-wit and which one is the inanimate object? And why are you so damn insulting to these guys, Ted?"

CEDAR
"Errrr, maybe that was a poor metaphor. But regardless, "Mr. Phenomenal" and "The Black Heart Warrior" appear to be evenly matched thus far!"

DC Hennig again makes the first move by pouncing toward his opponent, but Akira catches Hennig off-guard by crouching underneath him and tossing him into the air, popping Hennig off Akira's shoulders with a lightning-fast Snap Fireman's Carry Slam. Hennig lands squarely on his ass, the inflexible wooden ring and complete surprise of the maneuver sending a small jolt of pain up Hennig's spine as Akira swoops down like a hawk, clasping his fingers together and wrapping his forearm around Hennig's throat, then sticking his knee into Hennig's back as he applies a Chinlock. Hennig's eyes dart around the ring, hopeful to land upon a nearby rope, but unfortunately he is out of arm's reach of anything that would legally break the hold. Hennig claws at Akira's forearm, then reaches back to try to move Akira's knee out of his spinal column, debating with himself as to which aspect of this hold is causing the most discomfort. Hennig extends his legs out a bit and plants the soles of his feet securely on the mat, then bridges his back away from Akira's knee enough to gain a bit of balance as he works his way onto his feet. Akira holds firm around Hennig's neck, but once Hennig manages his way back onto both feet, he reaches up and grabs the back of Akira's head, then begins to run forward. Hennig circles the ring almost entirely as he builds momentum, then, as he feels Akira begin to let up on his neck, Hennig charges towards the ropes, taking Kobayashi along for the ride. Hennig dives feet-first out of the ring, through the top and middle ropes, still clinging to the back of Akira's head, which in effect sends Akira's neck directly into the ropes in a beautifully-executed Rope-Assisted Running Cutter. Akira experiences tremendous whiplash, his head being sprung backwards like an opened snake-in-a-can, while DC Hennig lands perfectly on his feet outside the ring.

CEDAR
"Excellent counter by Mr. Phenomenal, who could prove quite a bit here tonight with a win over Akira Kobayashi. Hennig was edged out of last month's Intercontinental Championship tournament, which of course Akira Kobayashi rode through to the finals at Revolutionary Wars. A win over Akira tonight could very well put DC Hennig in the contender's circle."

MILES
"Watching that pompous ass get knocked out of the tournament was so satisfying to me, Ted. It's tender, heart-warming moments like those that really remind me why I got into this business in the first place."

While Hennig's erratic and impromptu maneuver certainly had an effect on Akira Kobayashi, Akira still manages to stand on his feet, his back turned to Hennig as he bends over, clutching his throat and attempting to draw a fresh breath of San Diego air. Hennig zeroes in on the vulnerable Kobayashi from the outside and hurriedly slides back into the ring, refusing to let this small window of opportunity close on him. Hennig positions himself behind Akira, then swoops down beneath him and rolls him up from behind for a pinfall attempt:

1... kickout!

Albeit surprised by the attempt, Akira kicks out of the pin with relative ease, not at all ready to give up this contest just yet. Now present of his opponent in the ring, Akira pops back up, steady on both feet as Hennig stands positioned on one knee. Seizing an opportunity of his own, Akira forcefully swings his foot towards Hennig's head, but DC ducks underneath just in time, hearing the steady swoosh of Akira's foot hitting only air as it buzzes above his head. Akira rotates completely, trying to control his unbridled momentum from the missed kick, and Hennig lunges out and grabs both of Akira's ankles, literally pulling his feet out from under him. Hennig then somersaults overtop his opponent, hooking both legs for another pin attempt:

1... kickout!

Akira throws a wild punch that connects just underneath Hennig's ribcage, causing Hennig to break his own pinfall attempt. Furthermore, as soon as Hennig slinks off of Akira, "The Black Heart Warrior" pivots around and wraps his legs around Hennig's neck, locking in a Leg Scissors hold in an effort to wear down his opponent. The bone of Akira's shin lies uncomfortably behind Hennig's neck, which adds insult to injury as Akira's calf closes off his windpipe, like a boa constrictor squeezing the life out of an unfortunate victim. Akira scoots closer to Hennig, knowing he can do more damage by maneuvering the bend of his knee overtop Hennig's throat, while DC Hennig attempts to roll onto his side to alleviate the pressure. Hennig struggles, but fights against Akira's powerful legs to roll onto his side, just as Akira hovers his bended knee above Hennig's neck. In the blink of an eye, Hennig darts towards Akira, rolling onto his knees while unexpectedly hooking Akira's legs, rolling Akira onto his shoulders once again:

1... 2..kickout!

Perhaps having heard the sound of the referee uttering a 2-count for the first time, Akira kicks out of the pin with incredible assertion, powerfully throwing Hennig off him using his legs. Hennig lands on his back and carries his momentum until he rolls backwards and onto his feet, only a second before Akira does the exact same. Hennig runs towards Akira and ducks underneath a clothesline, then bounces off the ropes and comes charging at him once again. Akira, in an amazing feat of athleticism, jumps vertically into the air, leaping over the 6'1 Hennig as he runs past him and bounces off the ropes again. This time Hennig leaps into the air as he nears Akira, looking to land his signature Leaping Leg Lariat. Sadly for Mr. Phenomenal, Akira steps forward through Hennig's legs before he connects, and Hennig lands a bit awkwardly on his feet, barely able to recalculate before his legs hit the ground. This otherwise minuscule error of Hennig's proves to be enough for a seasoned veteran such as Akira Kobayashi who extends his leg outwards while pivoting on his other foot, until the sweet smack of Akira's leather boot popping off DC Hennig's jaw echoes throughout the arena after connecting with a lethal Spin Kick. Hennig's shoulder-length hair whips back along with his head, his eyes a little glazed as he crumbles to the canvas below. Akira nods slightly as Hennig hits the mat, as if confirming to Hennig that he did in fact kick him in the cranium, then drops to his knees and hooks Hennig's leg for a pinfall attempt of his own:

1... 2... kickout!

CEDAR
"Oooh gosh, Hennig's sure gonna feel that one when he wakes up tomorrow. Akira Kobayashi is a force to be reckoned with when he throws those devastating kicks."

MILES
"Please, he couldn't kick the dust off your wife's vagina, Ted."

CEDAR
"Oh those are big words coming from you from behind the commentary table.

MILES
"You don't think I'd tell that straight to your wife's vagina's face? Have me over for dinner this week Ted, I'll tell your wife's vagina exactly what the fuck's on my mind."

DC Hennig arises from the mat as one would after having a bad dream: rapidly, with a dreary, yet panicked look on his face, clearly having gotten his bell rung from such an equalizing kick. Unfortunately for Mr. Phenomenal, his bad dream is certainly not over, as the fighting background of Akira Kobayashi soon comes into play. With DC Hennig seated on the mat, propped up on one elbow, Akira throws a stiff Roundhouse Kick into Hennig's pectoral muscles, creating a deafening SMACK! Hennig clutches his chest with both hands, shielding from view the horrifyingly impressive indentations of Akira's bootlaces that have become impressed inside the bright red markings of Hennig's chest. Hennig falls to the mat, and Akira wastes no time in mounting his downed opponent, grabbing a handful of Mr. Phenomenal's tussled hair, and laying in a few good forearms directly into Hennig's face. DC manages to block the next two forearm attempts with his own forearms, which Akira expertly sees as his queue to drive some deep knee thrusts into Hennig's sides and ribs. DC Hennig lies on the mat, knowing now what it feels like to be attacked by a ravaging pack of wolves, before pulling his knees towards his chest and forcibly removing a vicious Akira Kobayashi from him, launching Akira backwards just far enough to recapture some precious breathing space. Hennig backs toward the ropes behind him, the sharp pain in his ribs making it difficult for him to raise up, as Akira, much like a shark with a scent of blood in the water, refuses to allow his victim to escape. Akira grabs hold of Hennig's ankles as he is mere centimeters away from grabbing the bottom ring rope, and drags Mr. Phenomenal to the center of the ring. Hennig kicks both feet outward, hoping to toss Akira far far away, but Akira hangs tight, inadvertantly pulling DC Hennig up off his back on the mat. Akira then leaps forward, between Hennig's outstretched legs and over his midsection, before driving both of his feet into Hennig's sternum, crushing the full force of his weight onto Hennig with a Double Foot Stomp. Hennig attempts to sit up, but fades back onto the mat, his face contorted in pain as Akira goes for the three-count:

1... 2... kickout!

CEDAR
"My gawd, Akira Kobayashi has stuck to DC Hennig like flies on honey."

MILES
"Isn't the expression 'flies on shit', Teddy? Because that is a WAY more accurate description, in my opinion."

CEDAR
"When has anyone ever asked for your opinion? The fact is, Kobayashi is methodically breaking down Mr. Phenomenal with this ferocious series of attacks, and if DC has a hope of winning this one, he'd better get back in the game, and quick."

Akira shoots an unconvinced glance at the referee, feeling certain at this point that DC Hennig probably has a punctured lung and could not have broken the pinfall. But regardless, Akira rises to his feet and grabs hold of Hennig's forearm, pulling him onto his as well. Akira locks his feet firmly on the mat, then sends DC flying into the corner of the ring with a swift Irish Whip, Hennig now becoming all-too-familiar with the feeling of getting the wind knocked out of him after his back connects with the turnbuckles. But despite his eyes being nearly shut from his winces of pain, DC Hennig sees Akira charging towards him with enough time to counter, knocking Akira in the face with a desperate Uppercut as soon as he makes it to the corner of the ring. Akira stumbles backwards, raising his hand to his nose to ensure it isn't bleeding, then marches towards DC again, who this time grabs hold of either side of the top rope and heaves both his legs into the air, swatting Akira away with a rigid kick to the collarbone. Akira is knocked backwards off his feet this time, but rolls onto his knees, again checking his nose to make sure no blood was spilled from the uppercut, then massaging his collarbone to assuage the initial discomfort. DC Hennig, meanwhile, spots a rare opportunity to bounce back, and crawls onto the ring apron through the ropes, fighting through plenty of pain as he clutches the side of his ribcage. Hennig eyes the ring post, and climbs up onto the second turnbuckle before looking back into the ring to check on his opponent... who isn't there. Hennig turns his head back around only to find a flying Akira Kobayashi, who, in an alarming quick fashion, ran and sprang off the middle rope and has now launched himself directly towards DC Hennig, delivering a Flying Thrust Kick that knocks Hennig off the ring post! Hennig painfully and awkwardly hits the ring apron, before crumbling off the apron and outside the ring, while Kobayashi gazes over the top rope, the gears turning in his head as he plans his next assault.

CEDAR
"Well that, folks, is why aerial offense in this profession is considered high-risk, high reward. I don't know if DC Hennig expected to see this raw, physical, unyielding side of Akira Kobayashi tonight, but I guarantee you he won't forget it any time soon."

MILES
"I don't know, the way this one's going I'd say Hennig will probably forget his name, home address, Social Security number..."

As DC Hennig lay on the mat outside the ring, breathing as heavily as a fish who has spent several minutes out of water, "The Black Heart Warrior" takes a moment inside the ring to regain his own composure and shake off a few cobwebs. Hennig begins to stir on the outside once he hears the referee begin his obligatory ten-count, and soon works his way to his hands and knees. He becomes suspicious, however, when he realizes that he's gone for an extended amount of seconds without Akira Kobayashi hounding and pounding the living shit out of him. Hennig glances into the ring and sees Akira Kobayashi running the other way, towards the ropes on the far side of the ring. Akira rebounds off the ropes and charges towards DC Hennig, as the live audience collectively holds its breath, thanking their lucky stars that they are not tasked with the challenge of surviving an Akira Kobayashi adrenaline-fueled beatdown. Hennig clamors onto his feet just as Kobayashi begins to slide underneath the bottom rope, looking to nail a Baseball Slide on Mr. Phenomenal. But suddenly, DC Hennig springs forward and grabs the top of the ring apron, then stretches it outward just as Akira slides out of the ring, effectively trapping him behind the apron! Seeing his moment to pounce, a light goes off in Hennig's head; or perhaps, an impulse in his brain escalates to a point beyond return, as Hennig begins tossing lefts and rights wildly into the head and shoulders of his opponent. With Akira's legs finally neutralized for the time being, Hennig blasts Kobayashi with a seemingly endless barrage of strikes, his arms flailing like a child tearing the gift wrapping off of a Christmas present. Right, left, right, left, right, left, right, left. Finally, although partially drowned out by the roaring support of the XWA Universe, Hennig hears the referee's desperate warnings and decides it's best not to get disqualified, taking several steps away from the now-dazed Akira Kobayashi. But once Hennig gets to the steel steps, he turns around and charges full-speed at Kobayashi, who is still trying to step out from behind the ring apron. Without warning, Hennig blazes towards Kobayashi and swings his arm into his opponent with unbelievably ferocity, delivering a brutalizing Running High-Impact Lariat, which Hennig once dubbed as the Clothesline from Robbinsdale! The XWA Universe explodes in applause at seeing Hennig revive a move he had not performed in nearly three years, a part of his moveset he felt was vital to bring back in an effort to defeat the "Black Heart Warrior."

CEDAR
"Good lord, a Clothesline from Robbinsdale! Looks like DC Hennig has decided to get a bit physical in this match as well, huh Joey?"

MILES
"Looks to me like he's getting desperate, resurrecting moves from fucking years ago. I dunno, maybe Akira knocked DC Hennig back into 2012. You think?"

Sweat glistens off the phenomenal body of Mr. Phenomenal, his blonde hair now a tussled mess as he leans against the ring apron, catching his breath and gathering his composure once again. The referee has hit a count of 5 at this point, and DC Hennig, gritting through the pain he's absorbed thus far, begins to roll back into the ring, but stops suddenly as a metaphorical light bulb shines brightly above his cranium. Hennig climbs on top of the apron and eyes the ring post, then climbs up the turnbuckles, each ascent proving more difficult than the last, until he finds himself perched atop the top turnbuckle. Akira Kobayashi slides underneath the ring apron and crawls out from under the ring, clearly disoriented from a years-pent-up Clothesline from Robbinsdale. But as the referee nears ten, a resounding 8! blares into the ears of Kobayashi, who kicks it into high gear to work his way onto his feet and slide back into the ring. Kobayashi staggers onto his feet, and to his surprise does not find DC Hennig anywhere inside the ring. As an even bigger surprise though, Akira turns around and sees a flying Mr. Phenomenal, as DC Hennig soars into the air from the turnbuckle feet-first, and plants a well-executed Missile Dropkick into Kobayashi! Hennig's signature aerial assault catches Akira completely off-guard as the tips of Hennig's boots clip the side of Akira's face, knocking him to the mat hard and making the crowd go completely bananas. Hennig lets out a pained smile, a mixed look of exhaustion, but more importantly, satisfaction in that he rectified his failed aerial tactic from before. With Kobayashi sprawled out on the mat, Hennig hooks the leg and goes for what could very well be the three count:

1... 2... kickout!

Hennig arises from the mat slowly, clearly frustrated by the resolve of the "Black Heart Warrior." But Mr. Phenomenal realizes that, although he's certainly pulled out some major components of his skill set thus far, he's saved the best for last. As Akira pulls against the ring ropes for leverage as he works his way onto his feet, Hennig positions himself behind Kobayashi, eager for him to turn around. The near-20,000 capacity crowd collectively shifts to the edge of their seats, almost certain of what will happen next. Kobayashi rises to his feet, and turns around, only to be met by a swift yet effective kick to the mid-section by DC Hennig. Kobayashi doubles over in pain, and DC Hennig capitalizes, throwing Akira's arm over his shoulder and hoisting his opponent into the air. Hennig somehow draws the strength to hold Akira upside-down for a few seconds, amidst an atmosphere of thousands of flashes from the cameras of the live audience. But as Hennig's knees begin to get weak, and his breath begins to get short, Mr. Phenomenal falls to the mat and drives Akira Kobayashi head-first into the unforgiving canvas, delivering his finishing Fisherman Brainbuster, the "Phenomeplex!" Akira's body folds like an accordion, his head and neck taking an excruciating amount of damage by breaking the fall of his entire 230 lb. frame. Akira is flat on the mat, outstretched like a bear skin rug and completely immobile, which obviously signals DC Hennig to crawl to his opponent. Hennig, exhausted, sprawls out on top of his downed opponent, not even bothering to hook the leg as he goes for the pinfall:

1!
2!
...3!

DING! DING! DING!

WATTS
"Here is your winner, "Mr. Phenomenal" D! C! Henniiiiiiiiiiiiiig!"

DC Hennig raises up to a seated position, a bit delirious from the previous beatdown but clearly thrilled to have secured the victory. The referee helps Hennig onto his feet and raises his hand high in the air, a picture-perfect moment of triumph for Mr. Phenomenal. Hennig wipes the sweat from his brow, but does so tenderly so as not to put pressure on his already throbbing head.

CEDAR
"My gawd, what a contest! A hard-fought victory for Mr. Phenomenal here tonight, and I for one certainly hope we get the privilege of seeing more from these two in the future. But ladies and gentlemen, we will take a quick commercial break and when we come back, one of the most promising main events in Vendetta history, as the XWA Intercontinental Champion Rob Chapman will go one-on-one with the World Heavyweight Champion, Danny Diamond. So stick around, as XWA Vendetta #88 continues!"
