After both men have made their entrances, it’s time to start the main event of the evening. In one corner, a very confidant man named DC Hennig hops around, preparing for this match-up. Hennig’s wet, slicked back blonde hair flops up and down as he readies himself for the math-up. He wears tape on both of his arms that runs from the mid forearm to the middle of his hands, and also a pair of light pink and black tights that are in the pattern of leopard print. He is sporting black kneepads and white boots. “Mr. Phenomenal” is mentally ready for his first main event since his return. While he is only in his second match back, he is naturally an extremely talented athlete and he knows it, leaving little for him to feel unsure about. Across the ring from him, Greg Samuel kneels, holding the top rope with both arms as he looks across the ring with caution. “The Maine Attraction” is wearing his traditional darker blue, white and black trunks with a black GS on the front and “Samuel” written on the back in all three colors, so they show up on each part of the trunks. Samuel has white wrist tape, which is much less significant than the tape job Hennig has. Samuel wears black wrestling shoes under his black kickpads and kneepads that continue into another, with a blue strip down the middle that is outlined by white. Quite to the contrary to Hennig, Samuel’s mind is racing upon his return to the main event scene. While he is not quite a stranger to main events, with an opponent that is so renowned in the company, “Mr. Match of the Night” is anxious of how he is going to stand up against the XWA legend. The ref assigned the job of keeping this match in line is Ryu Sanu. Sanu calls for the bell and gets three tolls in return from the timekeeper. Samuel stands up and immediately paces to the center of the ring. Hennig matches the movements of his competitor. Immediately, the tale of the tape can be seen as the two men in Vendetta’s main event are standing next to one another. It’s a pretty even match-up, as Samuel has only a slight advantage in height and weight, both nothing that will significantly give him a leg-up. “The Maine Attraction” is very tense as he sticks a hand out, offering a show of respect to start this match. Hennig confidently looks down at Samuel’s outreached hand, and decides to return the gesture. Both men are favorites in the XWA Universe, and both for very different reasons. The crowd in Iowa cheers on the show of respect that has started this main event match-up. Both men back out of the center of the ring and begin to circle. Samuel is very weary to make a mistake, while Hennig is trotting around the ring like he has many times before. Hennig catches up to Samuel a little bit, causing Greg to take a few quicker side stepping paces to avoid getting caught off guard early in this match-up. While “Mr. Phenomenal” is the superior athlete in this match, it is not by much as Samuel is a great athlete in his own right. After circling the ring a few times, the two men enter the center of the ring and engage in a collar-and-elbow tie up. In a deadlock, both men are trying to get the advantage in this display of catch wrestling. Samuel takes his left arm out from behind Hennig’s neck and puts it on Hennig’s left wrist, before quickly twisting Hennig’s arm out to the side, applying a Wrist Lock. “Mr. Phenomenal” drops to a knee, looking to alleviate some of the pressure that is being applied to his arm from Samuel. The former Intercontinental Champion keeps Hennig’s hand pointed toward the ceiling in the Wells Fargo Arena. The look on DC Hennig’s face shows just how much a simple wrist lock can mess with your arm. The former XWA Champion stands up, only to be pulled into a side headlock by Samuel. Greg is in full control early, much to the surprise of himself and many others, as he has his right arm wrapped around the back of the neck of the newly returned veteran.

TED CEDAR: “Well not to undersell Samuel, but I must say, in the early goings of this contest, he is holding his own against one of the best this company has ever seen!”

JOEY MILES: “Don’t worry, he’ll mess up before long! The kid is worse than that famous basketball player that everyone said choked in the moment…”

Hennig slaps at the arm of Samuel a couple of times, looking to find a way out of the headlock. Samuel cinches in the headlock, looking to keep control as long as he can. “Mr. Phenomenal” grabs the right wrist of his adversary, and then with his other arm, throws an elbow to the abdominal. Greg loosens the hold as his midriff is attacked, and that allows all the leeway Hennig needs, as he separates Samuel’s hands and takes “The Maine Attraction’s” left wrist and twisting it around and pressing Samuel’s arm up against his back, locking in a hammerlock. Samuel cringes as his wrist is being lifted upon, putting great amounts of pressure on his arm. The former Intercontinental Champion smacks at his left shoulder a couple of times, looking to escape the happerlock, but Hennig has it locked in tight. “Mr. Phenomenal” uses his free arm to grab the side of Samuel’s head and then releases Greg’s arm, before spinning his adversary around before locking the Maine native’s neck under his left arm. Quickly transitioning from the Hammerlock to a Front Facelock, Hennig make sure to continue the speedy attack, and without allowing a second for Samuel to counter, he rotates to the left side, spinning Samuel over before slamming him neck first down on the mat with a Swinging Neckbreaker. “Mr. Match of the Night” holds the back of the neck after while working his way back to a vertical base. Once back up, Samuel charges at Hennig, who greets him with a beautifully placed dropkick. The Iowa crowd shows their appreciation for what is a textbook dropkick. Samuel clutches his face as his nose pulses after receiving most of the impact. Reluctantly, the former Million Dollar Champion gets back to his feet, only to be brought back into the same Front Facelock by Hennig. Before the former XWA Champion can fully get the Front Facelock cinched in, Samuel is able to pry Hennig’s hands apart and lock his left arm into a wrist lock. Samuel doesn’t keep Hennig in the wrist lock long before irish whipping his adversary into the ropes. “Mr. Phenomenal” bounces off of the ropes and then rifles back at Samuel, who does a 360-degree spin over the course of two steps forward before driving a forearm into the chest of the XWA veteran. The crowd cheers for Samuel, as he is putting up one heck of a fight against a man that many thought he wouldn’t stand a chance against. Hennig leans forward a touch while his arms are crossed over his chest, as he breaths a little bit heavier due to what feels like a concaved chest.

JOEY MILES: “What a pretty little motherfucking ballerina!”

TED CEDAR: “That was a discus forearm, Joey. Many people underrate just how much that spin leading into the forearm can really help build momentum. But I think if you ask DC Hennig right now, he will tell you that it does a significant amount!”

Samuel, knowing he is in chare and looking to capitalize, charges into the ropes. As he comes darting back toward Hennig, “The Maine Attraction” leaps into the air and then grabs Hennig’s head and does a front flip, slamming the former XWA Champion’s head on the mat with a Flip Neckbreaker Slam. Hennig lifts his neck up off the mat a little bit while clutching his neck. Samuel quickly pushes Hennig back down to the mat and hooks a leg, looking to pull out the surprise victory. Hennig is out a little after a one count, and this comes as no surprise to anyone in the arena. Samuel was not expecting the victory, but rather looking to wear Hennig down, as he had to exert the energy to kick out. Without hesitation, Greg wraps his arm around the neck of his adversary and begins to work him back to a vertical base. Hennig didn’t need help getting up, so he uses the opportunity to change the momentum in the match-up by driving an elbow in to the abdomen of “Mr. Match of the Night.” Samuel is lifted into the air and backwards slightly from the power of the elbow, but is able to retain hold upon the neck of Hennig. “Mr. Phenomenal” again uses an elbow to attempt to swing the match into his favor. Again, Samuel stubbornly refuses to release control, despite his midriff now throbbing. After one final elbow, Samuel has no choice but to relinquish control over Hennig, and instead wrap his arms around his tender stomach. Hennig leaps up and swings a leg around, catching Samuel on the back of the head with an Enziguri. Samuel falls forward onto the mat, as now both sides of his head has been attacked by the boot of Hennig. The back of the head is a very sensitive area, and after the boot connects with it, Samuel’s head now throbs in unison with his midriff. Samuel’s hands both rush to attempt in the aid of his throbbing head, as Hennig crawls over to his adversary. Hennig hooks both legs and looks to get the victory over the younger Samuel, but is only able to get a one-count out of the pin before Samuel battles his right shoulder up off the mat. Hennig shows no disappointment, as he knew it was very unlikely he was going to get the victory. “Mr. Phenomenal” quickly hops back to his feet and speeds into the ropes. The former XWA Champion uses all his speed to bounce of the ropes and come shooting back at his slightly larger adversary. With all his might, Hennig leaps into the air, showing off an impressive vertical leap, and bends his legs, before dropping his right knee straight down on the forehead of Samuel. “Mr. Match of the Night” lifts both his arms up to block his head as his face has taken a very fair amount of damage up to this point in the match. “Mr. Phenomenal” gets back to a vertical base and looks out at the Iowa crowd. Barely breathing heavy, Hennig approaches the corner before getting up on the second rope and holding his hands up high. The crowd in attendance cheers on the XWA veteran who is in firm control of this match up. Meanwhile, Samuel turns onto his side and fights through the pain, getting back to his feet, to confront his adversary, despite all the pain that rushes through his head. Hennig places his left foot on the top turnbuckle before pushing off and doing a backflip, landing on his feet in the middle of the ring. He turns around to face his adversary, who is on one knee, still favoring his head. Hennig approaches “The Maine Attraction” and takes him into a side headlock, forcing the former Intercontinental Champion back to a vertical base. Without thinking, “Mr. Phenomenal” rotates his body quickly, releasing Samuel’s head from his grip, and with his right arm, he flexes his bicep before driving it straight up through the chin of the Maine resident. Samuel’s head snaps back and his arms go limp as he stumbles back three steps. Hennig closes the gap in no time and then rears his right arm back with his five fingers balled up into a tight fist, and then drives that fist straight into already weakened forehead of Samuel. Greg backs into the ropes in agony, only to again by ambushed by the former XWA Champion, who this time grabs his left forearm with both arms before whipping him across the ring. Samuel bounces of the ropes and comes back at the XWA veteran who reaches both arms up high, fists clenched together, and then drops a double axe handle on the forehead of Samuel. “The Maine Attraction” drops to the mat and rolls around in anguish as he is starting to question how much more his punishment his face can take.

TED CEDAR: “Samuel’s forehead has taken a beating this match, and you better believe that isn’t a coincidence. Hennig is a smart man that will calculate his attack and center it around a weak spot, and that’s just what he is doing.”

JOEY MILES: “Calculate, confidence, center. What, is this fricking episode of Vendetta sponsored by the letter C… You cocksuck!”

Despite an overwhelming amount of pain that rushes through his cranium, Samuel pushes his way back to a vertical base, knowing that he can’t give up. He has made it to the main event of Vendetta, and he knows that DC Hennig will walk all over him if he doesn’t make an effort to get back into the match right now. Once reaching his feet, Samuel is greeted by a side headlock by Hennig, who was awaiting the return to a vertical base. “Mr. Phenomenal” lifts Samuel up off of the mat, so his body is parallel to the canvas, and then he drops him down to the mat, slamming him face first on the mat with a DDT variant known as the Implant DDT. Samuel kicks around, clutching his head and now even screaming in pain, as he has taken shot after shot to the face in this match. Hennig is smart and sees his chance to put Samuel away and is quick to jump on to seize it. The former XWA Champion approaches the downed Samuel and steps over him, so he is standing over the Maine resident who is lying out on his stomach. Hennig then lifts Samuel’s upper body up, and adjusts Greg’s arms so they are draped up on each of his bent legs. “Mr. Phenomenal” then lifts Samuel up by the neck, locking in a Camel Clutch but then modifies it by moving his inter-twined fingers up to the forehead of Samuel, making the Camel Clutch as effective on the weak forehead as it is on the back. Samuel starts to yelp in agony as the punishment of his face continues. Referee Sanu is in the perfect position to make sure Samuel does not tap out. In the center of the ring, the outlook is gloomy for the former Intecontiental Champion. Samuel works his arms off of the knees of Hennig and then reaches out, looking for any possible way to free himself from this modified Camel Clutch. After quickly realizing that he is centered in the ring, Samuel begins to claw his way toward the ropes, preying that he can get their anyway possible. Hennig continues to pull back as much as he can, trying to push Samuel to the limit and secure a victory in the main event of Vendetta, and the points in the Intercontinental Championship tournament. Samuel’s face is constantly in pain, as Hennig’s fingers are grinding deep into his already bruised forehead. Greg is slowly but surely making progress, inching his way toward the ropes. But after making it about half way toward the ropes, Samuel slowly stop showing any signs of fight. Sanu notices this and checks with Samuel, trying to see any signs of life. Then, Sanu decides to test the combatant’s status by lifting his arm and dropping it. Hennig sees that Sanu is checking to see if “The Maine Attraction” is unconscious, and smirks, thinking he has this match in the bag. Sanu releases Samuel arm and it quickly drops to the mat, signaling that Greg is out cold. Ryu lifts his arm again, only to drop it and have it fall like a hypothetical sack of potato. With one more chance to keep his arm in the air, all is looking bad for the Maine resident. The Iowa crowd is split, as half want to see Hennig win, but the other half is rooting for a Samuel comeback. Sanu lifts Samuel’s arm up for the third time, and upon release this time, Greg’s arm drops all the way until about 2 inches from the mat, at which point it stops and he lifts it into the air. Sanu prepares to ring the bell, but then notices that Samuel’s arm did not actually hit the mat. “The Maine Attraction’s” arm is shaking, as he fights hard to keep it from the mat. Hennig is absolutely astonished that he isn’t the victor of the match at this point, and his face shows every bit of the amazement. “Mr. Phenomenal” is extremely impressed with the fight from Samuel. Knowing that his time is limit, Samuel begins to work twice as hard to claw toward the ropes and get the break. Hennig is applying the most pressure he can to the face of Samuel, as he notices the work that Greg is putting in to get to the ropes and tries to get him to tap out before he can get there. Despite all the fatigue that he is suffering, Greg is successful at reaching the ropes, and gets the break. Sanu doesn’t even have to begin the count before Hennig breaks, out of respect. There is not a single person that is anything less than amazed that Samuel reached the ropes and got the break. Greg lies on the mat, with his hand still grasping the rope, as he tries to recover from the brutal Camel Clutch modification. Hennig justs sits on the mat, wondering what he has to do to put away “The Maine Attraction.”

TED CEDAR: “I can not believe Greg survived that modified Camel Clutch! What a competitor! He battles and battles until his body says no more, and he isn’t at that point yet!”

JOEY MILES: “Suck his dick much…”

“Mr. Phenomenal” gets up and approaches his adversary, and then grabs him by the legs and pulls him into the center of ring. Hennig then clutches Samuel behind the knees and does a forward flip, bridging over and landing on his feet, executing a beautiful Jackknife pin. Knowing that the Camel Clutch wore Samuel down significantly, Hennig hopes to get a pinfall where he couldn’t get a submission victory. After a count of two, while Sanu’s hand heads down to the mat for a third time, Samuel manages to get a shoulder up off the mat, causing the former XWA Champion to go toppling over. Still extremely impressed with the resiliency of Samuel, Hennig is wide-eyed, finding it hard to believe that he hasn’t secured the victory yet. The Minnesota native gets back to his feet, with a few beads of sweat starting to form, and only a few aches and pains from the offense Samuel has been able to get in during the match. Hennig then grabs Samuel by the back of the head and begins to work him back to a vertical base. At this point, Samuel is merely 225 pounds of dead weight that Hennig has to get back to a vertical base. “Mr. Phenomenal” struggles as Greg’s limp body has what seems to be infinite gravity pushing it down toward the mat. Finally, Hennig is able to get Greg back on his feet, but Greg is showing very little signs of life, and it is looking as if DC Hennig has this match firmly in his hands. The former XWA Champion pulls Samuel in and locks his hands behind Samuel’s back, locking him into a waist lock. Hennig then attempts to lift the apparently unconscious Samuel over for a belly-to-belly suplex. Samuel is able to get his leg right leg intertwined with DC Hennig’s left leg, successfully blocking the suplex attempt. Unwillingly to accept defeat, Hennig attempts to lift Greg up and over again. The former Intercontinental Champion blocks again, this time letting out a warrior like yell, which excites the Iowa crowd, as they have not seen much of a sign of life from the Maine native. Hennig is getting aggravated, as he believes that he has to perform this move. Samuel on the other hand is started to feel no anxiety for the first time in this match, and is instead ready to take on the legend and prove himself as a main event player. “Mr. Phenomenal” attempts the suplex one more time, only to be blocked by Samuel yet again. “The Maine Attraction” holds his right arm bent at a 135 degree angle, and rears it back a little way before driving it forward and delivering a stiff arm shot to the side of Hennig’s head. Despite the blow disorienting him a little, the Minnesota resident refuses to release the clutch, adamant that he has to be successful in performing a belly-to-back suplex. Samuel rears his arm back again, and throws another clubbing blow to the side of the head. After the second shot, Hennig’s fingers loosen, but he still refuses to give up. Samuel winds up and drives one more unorthodox arm shot to the former XWA Champion’s head, and with the blow, Hennig’s arms swing back in sync with his head, as he takes a step back from his fierce adversary. Seeing his chance to take advantage, Greg places both hands on Hennig’s chest before pushing him backwards into the ropes. DC comes charging back at Greg, who then sticks out his right arm and uses it to wrangle in his adversary, locking him into the clutch that has become very fondly known in the Samuel fan groups as the Fatal Attraction clutch. For the first time in this match up, it looks like Greg might be able to pull the upset and defeat the veteran. The portion of the audience that supports Samuel is going nuts, looking to see him get a huge victory. Before Greg can even consider dropping backwards and hitting the Fatal Attraction, Hennig lifts up an elbow and drives it into the side of Samuel’s face. The well-placed elbow causes Samuel to immediately release the clutch and drop down to a knee. Hennig backs away quickly, looking to buy a little time for himself to regroup after being hit with that flurry of offense from Samuel. “Mr. Match of the Night” gets back to a vertical base, and unlike earlier, he is feeling extremely confident that he can stand toe to toe with the veteran, and this is leading to a Greg Samuel that is much more familiar to the crowd. Once Samuel is back up, Hennig comes charging at him, only to be sidestepped. Hennig is able to stop his momentum, before turning and looking to attack Greg from behind. Samuel hears Hennig approaching, and lifts up his right boot and drives it backwards, meeting the former XWA Champion in the gut. Hennig doubles over with both arms around his midriff, looking to aid the throbbing sensation. Greg turns and faces his adversary before quickly locking him in a front facelock. Greg then uses his right arm; that is not occupied, to reach across to the left shoulder of Hennig and rotate him around, so “Mr. Phenomenal” is now locked into an Inverted Facelock. Greg then quickly snaps down to his back, slamming Hennig’s back of the head off of the mat with an Inverted DDT. Hennig rolls around in agony, clutching the back of his head and kicking the mat as the pain courses through his cranium. Greg looks to claim the victory, as he hooks both legs of the former XWA Champion. The Iowa crowd is buzzing, as they wonder if Greg could actually claim the victory over Hennig. The count gets to a very deep two before Hennig’s shoulder is up off of the mat, and Greg’s face immediately shows disappointment, and he was desperately hoping to sneak away with the victory. After getting his shoulder up, Hennig starts to open and close his hand, and it is clear that Greg is starting to get the athlete worn down a little bit.

TED CEDAR: “I think many people would have told you that there was no way Greg was going to be able to put up this much of a fight against Hennig. But those who have truly followed Greg’s career, you will know that he has been known to rise to the occasion every single time!”

JOEY MILES: “Hennig just needs to kill him! I’ve got hookers waiting in my hotel room…”

TED CEDAR: “It’s amazing just how much fight both of these man have! In my mind, Hennig vs. Samuel was the best possible way to start off this tournament!”

With the momentum of this match up in his favor, Greg is looking to get in any quick offense he can. He quickly takes the back of Hennig’s neck before rearing back his right fist and driving three rapid punches to the veteran’s forehead. With each of the shots, Hennig’s limbs bounce a little bit, and he grunts. After the blows, Samuel releases his grip on “Mr. Phenomenal’s” neck and pushes his battered body back to a vertical base. Running on adrenaline, Samuel charges into the ropes and hops up to the second rope, using them the to spring into the air. While in mid air, Samuel does a backflip, showing off his own athleticism. Unbeknownst to “The Maine Attraction,” Hennig knows that the Lionsault is coming, and roles under the ropes, getting himself clear off the radius in which Greg will land. The former Intercontinental Champion collides hard with the mat, and immediately all of his limbs shrivel towards his midriff as the pain courses through his ribs and abdominal. Out of desperation to alleviate some of the discomfort from his midsection, Samuel rolls onto his back; still clenching his midriff. Unluckily for him, this plays right into Hennig’s plan. “Mr. Phenomenal” slowly crawls over and the hooks a leg, sort of weakly as he is feeling the toll of this match. Samuel is in a predicament again, and both Hennig and Samuel fans alike wonder if Samuel will finally stay down. After two hits on the mat, Sanu’s hand is well on it’s way to hitting for a third time before “The Maine Attraction’s” shoulder rises off the mat. After the Samuel kicks out, “Mr. Phenomenal’s” head drops down as he can’t believe Samuel has kept it alive this long. The Minnesota native lifts Greg’s upper body off the mat and then readjusts so he is kneeling behind Samuel. Hennig proceeds to lock in a headlock, applying a wear down hold on Samuel. In a sly stroke of genius, Hennig drives the knee he isn’t kneeling on into the back of “Mr. Match of the Night” to wear him down even more. Sanu, doing the job he is great at, is checking to make sure there isn’t an illegal choke. At this point, Samuel’s eyes are closed and he is trying to fight the pain that rushes through his body. Knowing that he can’t just sit there and allow Hennig to slowly wear him down, Samuel begins using the little energy he has to work his way back to a vertical base. First, “The Maine Attraction” rotates left 90 degrees, allowing him to use his left arm to push back to a vertical base. Hennig is allowing Samuel to use his energy to get back to a vertical base, and is maintaining hold of the grasp on his head. Greg then replaces left knee with a boot, before doing the same with his right, so he now is on his feet, but kneeling over. Still in firm control, Hennig is in no hurry to transition out of this headlock, knowing that it is giving him time to recover. Samuel, however, has different plans and locks both of his hands together before swinging them to the right side, and then driving his left elbow swiftly into the midriff of the former XWA Champion. The power of the elbow causes Hennig to be momentarily lifted off of the mat as his face scrunches up in pain, but he refuses to release the hold. Samuel repeats the process again, planting the point of his elbow deep into the abdominal of Hennig. “Mr. Phenomenal” again is lifted into the air, and the pain deepens, but he is bull-headed and is uses all his will to keep the headlock cinched in. Greg winds up one more time, and with all the might his battered body will allow, he drives his elbow into the stomach of his adversary. This blow puts on the finishing touches as Hennig’s midriff is in too much pain to retain the headlock. The Minnesota native lets go of the resilient combatant’s head. Before Samuel can use this newly found momentum, Hennig rears back his right arm, which is bent like a pitcher preparing to deliver a fastball. With as much velocity as he has, he drives his forearm straight down on the back of the still bent over Samuel. “The Maine Attraction” immediately arches his back, as he writhes in pain. Hennig notices how well lined up Samuel is with the corner, and decides to use this to his advantage. “Mr. Phenomenal” charges into the corners before placing one foot on the bottom turnbuckle, followed by the other on the middle turnbuckle. Using the foot on the middle turnbuckle, Hennig pushes out of the corner and sticks his left elbow out, looking to land a flying back elbow. Unluckily for him, Samuel still has enough in the tank to catch on to what is going on, and instead of waiting for Hennig to arrive, the former Intercontinental Champion charges his adversary who is in mid air. Samuel is able to grab hold of Hennig’s head in mid air, and reverse his momentum by leaping forward to the mat, and landing on his back, causing Hennig to collid face first on the mat with great velocity in a very unorthodox One-Handed Bulldog. The Iowa crowd is extremely impressed with Samuel’s innovative nature, and cheers him.

JOEY MILES: “Tha fuck was that shit?”

TED CEDAR: “THAT WAS A SICKENING THUD! Samuel reversed stop the momentum of DC Hennig’s upper body, while his lower body was still going in the same direction, causing Hennig to slam face first on the mat. What an innovative bulldog by the very resilient Samuel!”

JOEY MILES: “To bad both men are fucked and are main event is going to end in a draw… Can I go now?”

Hennig lays on the mat, showing no signs of life, as his arms are just outstretched about his head. Samuel lies on his back, with his arms out to the sides. The crowd in attendance in Iowa is split 50/50 as they cheer for the wrestler they want to make it to a vertical base. Ryu Sanu checks both men and then begins his count. The race is on, both men now have an ultimatum of a ten count to keep in this match up, and potential win this match.

1!

No movement from either man, and it is questionable if that will change in the near future.

2!

The digits on Hennig’s left hand can be see wiggling as he looks to find some sort of way back to a vertical base. Samuel still shows no signs of life.

3!

Either man has made no further progression.

4!

Samuel begins to slowly rock back and forth on his back, showing that he might be able to get himself back into this match up. Hennig is yet to show any signs of movement beside the hand.

5!

At this point, Samuel’s legs have gone from straight out to bent and for the Samuel fans, this is enough to go crazy, as their favorite is showing signs of life.

6!

“Mr. Phenomenal” rolls over to his side, and is now facing the ropes that are merely one turn over away from him. Samuel has been successful at fully rolling over onto his stomach. Right before the next count, Hennig rolls over and drapes an arm over the bottom rope.

7!

Hennig uses the rope to push himself up to his hands and knees. He then reaches up and grabs the top rope, and it seems that he is very close to getting back to a vertical base. The only progress made by Samuel is that he now has his palms on the mat, ready to push himself up.

8!

The Minnesota native pulls his upper body up using the top rope and is able to get his right foot under him, leaving him kneeling on his left knee. If he can bring that knee up, he will be back to a vertical base. Samuel pushes his upper body off of the mat, as if he is a seal. Very late in the 8 count, Hennig is able get his left foot planted next to his right, getting him back to a vertical base.

9!

Samuel feels the pressure to get back up and continue the match, so he struggles to get both feet under him quickly. The Samuel support base in Iowa is chanting, “Let’s go Greg!” looking to get him going. At 9 and a half, Samuel is able to get his feet under him, long enough to send him staggering backwards into the ropes. Luckily, he keeps himself alive in this contest. Hennig approaches Samuel and rears back his right arm before driving a forearm into the face of Samuel. Greg immediately drops on a knee, clutching on to the top rope. Hennig continues by placing a left boot in between the ribs of “The Maine Attraction.” Samuel releases the top rope and falls down to the mat, landing on his back facing diagonally near the corner. Using a blast of adrenaline, Hennig charges to the opposite corner before shooting back at Samuel. “Mr. Phenomenal” approaches the corner and then grabs on both sides of the top turnbuckle before leaping up into the air. Once reaching the peak of his leap, Hennig releases the top rope and twists to his right side, sticking out his elbow. The former XWA Champion then drops the high impact elbow straight down on the chest of his adversary; landing the move he calls the Outter Limitz Elbow. Samuels’ limbs fly into the air, and his arms cross over his chest. Hennig tenderly gets back to his feet and backs away from Samuel. The elbow woke Samuel up a little bit, and he realizes that he is in a prime position to lose the match right now, so he uses what little energy he has left to begin his way back to a vertical base. Greg slowly rolls to his stomach and then is even slower to push himself to his hands and knees. Once Samuel has reached his hands and knees, Hennig approaches him and assists him back to a vertical base, only to take him in a Front facelock and drag him into the center of the ring. Hennig then hooks Samuel’s right leg with his left arm, and it is obvious to everyone on the arena that Hennig is going for the Phenomoplex. In a quick motion, Hennig lifts Samuel up and then drops him down on the top of his head with the Phenomoplex. Samuel’s limbs all sprawl out, and it’s obvious to everyone in the arena that he is done. The former XWA Champion is also laid out on the mat so fatigued that he is struggling to build the energy to go and get the pin. After a few seconds, Hennig rolls over on his stomach and crawls his way over to Samuel. With as much energy as he can muster up, Hennig lays over top of Samuel, looking to gain the victory with the lateral press. Sanu slaps the mat once, then twice and three times, NO! Samuel is able to get the shoulder up at the absolute last second. Hennig, whose eyes where closed, open up wide in disbelief. How, after all that he has taken in this match is Samuel still running? Everybody in the arena is amazed. Hennig is now determined to keep Samuel down, and slowly pushes his way back to his feet. Samuel on the other hand, shows no further signs of being alive.

TED CEDAR: “Love him or hate him, Samuel is deserving of this spot in the main event against a legend like DC Hennig. He will put on a fight night in and night out!”

JOEY MILES: “I’m ready to leave…”

Hennig finally reaches his feet and then groggily approaches the corner. “Mr. Phenomenal” leans into the corner, taking a second to rest. In this time, Samuel begins to show some signs of life, as he crawls around ever so little, trying to get to the ropes so he can get back to his feet. Hennig gingerly climbs up to the top rope, and then turns out to face the ring. At this point, Samuel is slowly using the ropes to climb back to his feet. Going to the top rope turns out to be the wrong move for Hennig, as while Greg pulls himself back up, he inadvertently causes “Mr. Phenomenal” to lose his balance, and fall to a seated position on the top rope. Samuel notices Hennig in pain on the turnbuckle and approaches him. Greg gets up on the second turnbuckle and aids Hennig up to a standing position on the top rope. With Hennig in a precarious position on the top rope, Samuel wraps his left arm around Hennig’s right leg, and ever so slightly lifts him off the top rope before falling backwards, causing Hennig’s face to collide with the match in what was a top rope variation of The Gateway, Greg’s signature Flapjack. Despite the extreme amount of fatigue that Samuel is faced with, he still finds it in him to rear his legs back and then thrust forward, performing a kip up. The Iowa crowd goes ecstatic as Samuel is giving them a performance of a lifetime. Greg looks out at the crowd, with a smile on his face despite his battered body. He then sticks out his right arm, with a slight bend at the elbow. He rotates around a little big, with excitement and the crowd feeds it straight back to him, as they know he is setting up for his finisher. Meanwhile, a tired but determined Hennig works his way back to a vertical base, convinced that if he gets up, he could take control back. After a lot of hard work, Hennig has made it back to a vertical base, albeit he is wobbly in the knees. Samuel turns to face his adversary and notices that he is up, so he charges over to his adversary. Upon reaching “Mr. Phenomenal,” Samuel drapes his right arm across the shoulders of Hennig; grabbing his left shoulder, and quickly drops backwards, landing Hennig on the mat face first with the Fatal Attraction. Hennig lays out flat on the mat as Samuel’s arm is caught under him. Greg is extremely groggy, but still running on that little bit of adrenaline. Samuel gets on his hands and knees, and crawls over to Hennig slowly. Greg now has the task of rolling Hennig over and getting him pinned. With all his muscles aching, Samuel does everything he can to flip the dead weight of Hennig over. “The Maine Attraction” manages to flip over the former XWA Champion and then proceeds to hook a leg. Sanu drops to the mat and begins the count. The crowd is going wild as Sanu’s hand hits the mat once. Samuel is positive he has the victory as the hand hits the second time. Sanu’s hand goes downward to hit a third time but before it can collide with the man, Hennig finds a way to power the shoulder up off the mat. Samuel looks up at Sanu, amazed that he is not victorious right now. He is wondering how he is supposed to put Hennig away. Despite being in shock, “Mr. Match of the Night” knows he has to stay on top of this opportunity if he wants to be victorious. Greg takes a second to plan out his next attack, thinking that he can either go for the crossface or another Fatal Attraction. Greg opts to go for another Fatal Attraction, feeling that hitting his signature move on the veteran will be a more impactful way of winning the match. Samuel battles his way back to a vertical base, very slowly, while Hennig shows no sign of life. Then, Greg approaches Hennig’s head, standing over him. Samuel proceeds to hook his hands under the former XWA Champion’s arms, and work on lifting him back to his feet. This is a long process for Samuel, who is too tired to be lifting a man that is as heavy as he is. Meanwhile, the Iowa crowd is torn, but not afraid to let their emotions be heard, and the Wells Fargo Arena is buzzing as these two combatants put on an epic of a match. Finally, Samuel is able to get “Mr. Phenomenal” back to his feet, and it is at this point that Greg again locks his arm across the shoulder of Hennig, grabbing hold of his opposition’s left shoulder. The Fatal Attraction seems to be near, but before Greg can pull it off for the second time, out of nowhere, Hennig drills Samuel in the side of the head with an elbow. Hennig’s supporters go wild, as they did not suspect him to make a comeback. The elbow sends Samuel stumbling sideways, freeing Hennig from the clutch. Then, “Mr. Phenomenal” pulls Samuel back in with a Front Facelock, before hooking the leg. The entire arena is thinking another Phenomoplex. Hennig lifts Samuel up, only to get him about vertical to the ground before Samuel is able to shift his weight so it is too hard for Hennig to lift him all the way over. The Minnesota native has no choice but to set Samuel back down, who then quickly jabs him in the ribs. The punch weakens the grip that Hennig has, and Samuel notices that. “The Maine Attraction” drives another quick jab into the same spot on Hennig’s ribs, forcing him to loosen the hold to the point where Samuel can escape. Greg then creates enough separation to push Hennig into the ropes. Hennig collides with the ropes backwards and then staggers back toward Samuel. The Maine resident catches Hennig in that far too familiar clutch that sets up the Fatal Attraction and before Hennig can react, Samuel quickly snaps back to the mat, using some of the momentum Hennig had built off of the ropes, to deliver a brutal Fatal Attraction. The force of the Fatal Attraction is so great that Hennig bounces off the mat and flips onto his back. The crowd in Iowa is going insane, as Samuel has all but secured the victory for himself after a second finishing move. The problem for Samuel is, he is left lying on his back, so beat up from the match that has ensued, that he can’t get the cover. The Samuel fans in attendance are chanting, “Get the pin!” as they look to motivate the downed combatant to string an arm over the veteran. Sanu checks both men and begins a count. After the first count, neither man is moving. Sanu gets his count to two, and at this point, Greg has rolled onto his side while “Mr. Phenomenal” remains lifeless on his back. At the three count, Greg has done another flip, this time onto his stomach, draping an arm over Hennig’s body. This is enough for Sanu to stop his previous count, and get down and count for a pinfall. Sanu’s hand meets the mat one time, and the audience is still going ballistic with excitement. Sanu slaps the mat again, as Samuel shows little emotion about potentially getting the victory, as he is so exhausted. Much to the relief of Samuel, Sanu’s hand successfully hits the mat for a third time, securing the victory for Samuel. The Iowa crowd explodes with excitement, as Samuel has taken his first step toward becoming the Intercontinental Champion.

LAURA WATTS: “HERE IS YOUR WINNER, GREG SAMUEL!!!

TED CEDAR: “BY GOD THE KID HAS DONE IT! Samuel pulls out an upset here in the main event and secures his first points of the tournament.”

JOEY MILES: “What a match… Woohoo, can I go now?”

”Storm in a Teacup” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers hits as Sanu checks on Samuel. Greg is not hurt, but worn down and Sanu helps him slowly back to a vertical base. Sanu then raises “The Maine Attraction’s” hand and then goes over to check on Hennig. In a show of sportsmanship, Greg follows Sanu over, and helps him check on Hennig. After they get Hennig to come around, they determine he isn’t hurt and they help him carefully get back to his feet.. Greg offers a handshake to his adversary, who proudly accepts it. While he lost the match, Hennig can’t help but respect Samuel for putting him through a great competition. After the handshake, Hennig slowly exits the ring. Greg then approaches the corner and gets up on the second turnbuckle, and raises one hand high as the other one holds his midriff. This is the shot that ends Vendetta.

(OOC: This match is 7k, and probably, in my opinion, the best matches I've written. If I get beat on this one, I will accept it because I put everything I could into it. Best of luck Mick, I truly did give you EVERYTHING I had.)

DING! DING! DING!

The sound of the bell, while incredible loud, is not as attention-grabbing as the expressions on the faces of Mr. Phenomenal and Greg Samuel, who begin slowly circling one another in the center of the ring. Greg Samuel stares at DC Hennig with noteworthy intensity; not a gaze borne out of anger, but rather out of optimism, as exhibited by a distinguishable glimmer in his eye. Riding fresh off of a victory at the pre-Big Ass American Bash edition of XWA Rage, Samuel recognizes the opportunity in front of him; a chance to knock off the former World Champion Hennig, in the main event of Vendetta, while advancing towards the reclaiming of his XWA Intercontinental Championship. While such a high-stakes challenge may be daunting for others, if the words "I'M READY" were written across Samuel's forehead, he still wouldn't look as prepared and eager to accept this challenge than he does while locking eyes with his opponent after the chime of the bell. Hennig reciprocates Samuel's confidence with a confident look of his own, a half-smirk and wrinkled brow designed to throw such assurance in the face of Greg Samuel. In other words, Hennig sees the potential breakout star and former IC Champion in front of him, but makes an effort to not look the least bit threatened. As either a show of sportsmanship, or a subtle sign of overconfidence, Hennig stops circling his opponent and extends his arm to Greg Samuel for a handshake. Samuel accepts and shakes Hennig's hand, and both men settle in for what will surely be a competitive main event.

Cedar: And here we go folks, it's "Mr. Phenomenal" DC Hennig vs. "Mr. Match of the Night" Greg Samuel in our main event. The winner of this match will earn points in a tournament to crown the next XWA Intercontinental Champion, and Joey, you have to imagine that both men recognize what all is at stake here tonight.

Immediately after shaking hands, the opportunistic Samuel initiates a standard collar-and-elbow grapple, which Hennig quickly counters into a Side Headlock. Refusing to allow Hennig the chance to apply pressure, Samuel quickly leads Hennig to the ropes and pushes him off. Hennig takes a few steps forward, but kills his momentum dead, stopping in the center of the ring. Samuel charges at Hennig, looking to capitalize, but before any attempt at offense can be made, Hennig spins around and catches "The Maine Attraction" with a quick Arm Drag. Samuel crashes and rolls on the canvas like a race-car over-calculating a turn, but uses his momentum to roll into a defensive three-point stance, determined to stay on guard. But DC Hennig is not on the attack, instead standing where he was with that trademark smirk shining brighter than the beam of a lighthouse across a pitch-black bay. Unphased by Hennig's cockiness, Samuel quickly rises to his feet and initiates the collar-and-elbow lockup again, but with the exact same result: a Side Headlock, back to the ropes, pushing Hennig off him once again. Samuel charges at Hennig again before he has a chance to turn around, but "Mr. Phenomenal" uses the eyes in the back of his head to scoop Samuel up and slam him back down with a Hip Toss. Although spiking his lower back a bit on the mat, Samuel spins around quickly, ready to counter whatever Hennig may throw his way. But DC once again is not on the immediate attack, standing and rubbing his hands as if to wipe them clean. Being even more of a showboat, Hennig throws a wink towards Samuel, as the die-hard Mr. Phenomenal fans cheer his patented cockiness, while the Samuel supporters roll their eyes voraciously. With a look of frustration showing through on his face, Samuel picks himself back up and, for a third time, goes for the collar-and-elbow grapple. DC Hennig again counters with a Side Headlock and prepares to be lead backwards to the ropes once more. Samuel shakes things up, however, locking his arms around Hennig's waist and hoisting him up into the air, stunning the preconditioned audience as well as the preconditioned Hennig with a Side Belly-to-Back Suplex! After crashing Hennig down onto his neck, Samuel pops back up enthusiastically and wipes his own hands clean, drawing a big reaction from his fans in Des Moines, Iowa.

Cedar: It looks like "Mr. Phenomenal" got a little too confident in that exchange, huh Joey?

Miles: We're talking about a guy who calls himself Mr. Phenomenal. You didn't expect this asshole to be over-confident?

Hennig picks himself up, clearly shaken from either being dropped on his neck or having his own over-assurance bite him on his ass. But either way, Hennig doesn't have the chance to nurse either blow as Greg Samuel wastes no more time, delivering some stiff Knife-Edge Chops into Hennig's chest, which turns a slightly-deeper shade of pink than the salmon-pink tights he's wearing. Hennig grits through the chops until his back hits the ropes, and Samuel follows up his attack with an Irish Whip. Hennig rebounds off the ropes and rushes towards Greg Samuel, who looks to level Hennig with a clothesline. Hennig ducks, however, and bounces off the ropes once more, then, when Samuel turns to face him, Hennig grabs both of Samuel's shoulders and leaps high into the air, looking to land his Leaping Leg Lariat. But Mr. Phenomenal miscalculates the jump, allowing Samuel to quickly duck forward underneath his legs and, just as Hennig lands on his feet, nail Hennig with a Standing Neckbreaker. Samuel slides beside his opponent and hooks the leg, but Hennig kicks out at a count of 2. Having focused his offense thus far on Hennig's neck, Samuel capitalizes by raising Hennig up to a seated position and applying a Cobra Clutch on the fallen Mr. Phenomenal. With Samuel's left arm pressing into the back of his head, and Samuel's right arm cutting off his windpipes, DC Hennig is in a dangerously uncomfortable predicament, especially as Samuel begins to twist and wrench on his neck, strategically deflating the air out of Hennig's sails. Hennig's fans rally behind him, while Samuel's fanbase gives him just as much motivation to leave Mr. Phenomenal unconscious.

Cedar: Effective offense by Greg Samuel thus far, Joey. You can practically see the determination radiating off him in the opening moments of this contest.

DC Hennig wills himself onto his feet, sort of Hulking up in a much less corny fashion, but nonetheless feeding off the energy of his fans enough to fight his way back into a standing position. Samuel keeps the hold locked in until Hennig jabs his elbow into Samuel's jaw, making him finally release his grip. With Greg momentarily incapacitated directly behind him, Hennig reaches up and back and grabs hold of his head, as if he were about to throw him forward with a snapmare. Hennig takes a more innovative approach, though, and runs towards the corner of the ring, holding firm to his opponent's head. Hennig runs up the turnbuckles, planting one foot onto them one at a time, and then springs back off the top turnbuckle and turns 180 degrees mid-jump, all the while keeping a tight lock on Samuel's head. Mr. Phenomenal allows gravity to take over from there until Hennig hits the mat and crashes his shoulder right into Greg Samuel's jaw, the result of a Springboard Bulldog turned into a Stunner! Samuel pops off of Hennig's shoulder like a fully cranked jack-in-the-box, springing up a bit before slumping onto his back on the mat. Hennig takes advantage of this momentum shift and goes for the cover: 1... 2... kickout!

Cedar: Oh wow, what a maneuver by Mr. Phenomenal! Taking advantage of his opponent's near-identical height and weight in order to pull off such a beautifully-crafted move.

Miles: Alright Teddy, calm down. I didn't think it were possible for you to sound even more annoying than usual, but then again I had never heard you speak with DC Hennig's dick in your mou --

Cedar: Thank you, Joey, for your always insightful commentary.

Having gained control of the match, DC Hennig massages his neck for just a moment before picking Samuel up onto his feet, and locking in an Abdominal Stretch. Hennig specifically alters his stance to where he moves his bent knee upwards into the upper back on his opponent, adding to Samuel's discomfort and inflicting more damage as he stretches "The Maine Attraction" backwards. Fearing he'll lose his grip and stumble, though, Hennig breaks the modified lock after a few moments, taking advantage of Samuel's prone state to lock Samuel's head underneath Hennig's armpit and dropping him directly into the canvas with an Inverted DDT. Samuel's head hits the mat hard, having no room between the ground and Hennig's arm to reduce the impact of the blow, causing Samuel's head to crash into the mat with no bounce whatsoever, like silly puddy hitting a linoleum floor. Hennig goes for the pinfall, knowing very well he may have the match after such a devastating attack: 1... 2... kickout! Hennig's look of surprise matches the audience, who cheers on Greg Samuel's tenacity thus far. With such a firm advantage at this point in the match, DC Hennig wastes no time in picking Greg Samuel up onto his feet, then sending him into the corner of the ring with an Irish Whip. Charging full speed at Samuel, Hennig looks to crash the entirety of his weight into Samuel, but in a startling reversal, Samuel grabs hold of the top rope on either side of the turnbuckle and leaps into the air, extending his legs out so that DC Hennig makes the acquaintance of Samuel's boots. Hennig's has no time to stop before smacking into the soles of Samuel's boots, the impact of which turns Hennig around on a dime. As Hennig takes a few steps away from Greg, holding his hand to his nose to ensure it isn't bleeding, Samuel takes a deep breath and charges at Hennig, driving his head into the mat with a Running Bulldog! With Hennig down for the moment, Samuel collects his breath and regains his composure, while the crowd fills the arena with dueling chants for both competitors.

Cedar: Ooooh and now "The Maine Attraction" levels DC Hennig with some defense! Could this be the turning point that the former Intercontinental Champion needs to come back in this contest?

Although the move was an instrumental one for a recovering Greg Samuel, DC Hennig begins to pick himself back onto his feet, and Samuel will not allow Hennig to gain the upper hand once more. Samuel cuts short his recovery session to quickly raise back onto his feet, and lunges at DC Hennig. The first thing DC Hennig sees when he raises up is Greg Samuel's boot, as "Mr. Match of the Night" connects with a very impressive Running Calf Kick, knocking Hennig back onto the canvas below. Hennig shakes his head as if he could shake away the pain, crawling back onto his hands and knees, and then onto one knee. With adrenaline flowing through him, Samuel again charges at Hennig, this time crashing his kneecap right into Hennig's eye socket with a Shining Wizard. Samuel's fans in the arena go ballistic at his high-octane offense, while Hennig's desperately try to will him back into the match, the clashing of both men's supporters almost acting as a match itself. Greg Samuel picks DC Hennig up and kicks him squarely in the gut, then sets him up for a suplex. While bent over, Hennig sees how close the two men are to the ropes, and just as Greg attempts to lift him up and over his head, Hennig shifts his weight backwards until he finds himself clearing the top rope and landing on the ring apron. Before Samuel has a chance to strike again, Hennig bends down and drives his shoulder into Samuel's stomach, causing "The Maine Attraction" to bend forward over the middle rope. Acting out of equal parts calculated offense and desperation, Hennig steps back and lunges at Samuel's head, and in one sweeping motion, twists Samuel's head and executes a Swinging Rope-Assisted Neckbreaker! DC Hennig's full weight drives Samuel's neck and upper back off the second rope, catapulting him forward while at the same time inflicting possible nerve damage to "Mr. Match of the Night." Hennig, meanwhile, smoothly lands on his feet outside the ring, but quickly slides back into it, wanting to capitalize on such an effective maneuver. With Greg Samuel splayed out onto the mat, Hennig goes for the pin once again: 1... 2... kickout!

Cedar: My Lord! I can imagine Greg Samue's brain bumping inside his cranium like a pinball in a pinball machine, but yet he still manages to get the shoulder up and stay in this thing!

Miles: You're saying that Greg Samuel has a brain the size of a pinball machine? What a fucking asshole. You heard it here folks, Ted Cedar thinks Greg Samuel is a pinball-brain sized piece of shit. His exact words!

Cedar: No I didn't -- I would never even -- that's not how -- oh just bite me, Joey.

Greg Samuel lies on his back, staring up at the overhead lights on the rafters above, experiencing major whiplash to add to his increasingly painful head and upper back pain he has experienced thus far in this contest. Hennig takes just a moment to alleviate his own pain, rubbing his jaw after the earlier attack from Greg and moving his tongue along every tooth to make sure they're all still in place. But knowing that Samuel could be winding down to a close here tonight, Hennig doesn't dilly-dally, and begins to slowly haul Samuel up onto his feet. Hennig's eyes soar out amongst the crowd, and the look in his eyes signal that he is about to end this bad boy with a Phenomeplex. Members of the audience begin to whip their cell phones out, hoping to capture Hennig's finisher with a memorable photograph, but before they even get the chance, a switch is flipped in Greg Samuel's mind. Ignoring the pounding aches and pain in his head, Samuel kicks it into overdrive, and begins swinging at DC Hennig with everything he has. He throws lefts and rights into Hennig's ribcage, each one more stiff and arduous than the last. The searing pain is enough to get Hennig to let his guard down, and Samuel follows up by delivering even stiffer kicks into the sides of Hennig's legs. This full-body assault certainly catches DC Hennig out of the blue, as he's unsure whether to block his legs, his chest, or his face. Sadly, he doesn't even have time to make that decision, as Greg Samuel lays into him some brutal forearms, crashing his arm right into Hennig's temple as if trying to crack it open. The crowd rallies behind Greg as he mounts this vicious offense, and once DC Hennig is finally left staggering, Greg stuns the XWA Universe with an expertly executed Enzuiguri! It's Mr. Phenomenal now who appears to have his bell rung, as he crumbles onto the mat, lying on his back the way his opponent was moments before his miraculous, effective comeback. Regardless of the sweat stinging his eyes, the throbbing pain in his cranium, or the discomfort in his upper back, Greg Samuel relies purely off the electrifying energy of the crowd as he runs to the ropes, leaping onto the middle rope and springboarding backwards, performing a Lionsault many fans are able to immortalize with the cell phones they took out earlier. The crowd erupts, with even DC Hennig's fans expressing appreciation of Samuel's tenacity in this comeback, as this match may not be decided just yet.

Cedar: You know, it's truly inspiring to see just how much the thrill of competition can motivate these competitors here in the XWA. With the possibility of advancing in this tournament on the line, Greg Samuel just made on hell of a comeback!

Miles: Yeah who knew that championships would motivate wrestlers, Ted? Honestly, where the fuck would we be without your wisdom?

As Mr. Phenomenal struggles with the realization that Greg Samuel has made such an incredible comeback, Samuel makes the conscious effort to end this match on a high note. He knows he cannot allow DC Hennig to regain control, and that if he can execute a high-impact move in this window of opportunity, he may be able to walk away with the victory. With that in mind, as he attempts to stifle any grimaces or winces of pain, Greg Samuel stumbles towards Hennig and picks him up onto his feet, then gives him an Irish Whip into the corner. Hennig slams into the corner of the ring, his head bouncing back a bit and jarring him a tad, which may be perfect for what Greg Samuel has in mind. Samuel walks over to Hennig and picks him up, resting Hennig on the top turnbuckle, and then Samuel begins to climb himself, as the crowd unanimously begins to move towards the edge of their seats, knowing something good must be in store. Facing Hennig, Chapman plants his right foot on the middle turnbuckle and his left foot on the top rope, then grabs Mr. Phenomenal to set him up for Samuel's finishing maneuver, the Fatal Attraction. The live audience erupts, with Samuel's fans reacting out of excitement and Hennig's reacting out of fear, knowing that Greg Samuel is about to attempt to plant DC Hennig into the mat, from the turnbuckles, with a Reverse STO. Just as Greg Samuel leans forward, however, DC Hennig, standing pretty well level with Samuel on the turnbuckles, begins to desperately club Samuel's back with his forearm. The hits produce a noticeable thud each time, but don't seem to be highly effective until Hennig forcefully lands a blow right onto the upper vertebrae of Greg Samuel, just below his neck. Having taken quite a bit of damage in that area throughout the match, Samuel winces in pain and, unbeknownst to him, releases Hennig, allowing Mr. Phenomenal the opportunity to level his opponent with an Uppercut. The strikes launches Greg Samuel backwards off the turnbuckle, and in a situation that can either be described as luck or ironic circumstance, Samuel crashes below onto the mat, from the turnbuckles, directly onto his upper back and neck, crumpling like an accordion before being sprawled out onto his belly on the canvas.

Cedar: And just like that folks, the tide has turned once more in what has been one incredibly competitive contest!

DC Hennig counts his blessings that he avoided what would have been total devastation, but doesn't waste a second in following up on his attack, now knowing first-hand the extent to which Greg Samuel can make an incredible comeback. But it appears to be lights out for "The Maine Attraction," who is lying practically motionless on the mat before DC Hennig leaps onto his feet, and drags Samuel up onto his. Hennig positions himself to where he is facing the corner of the ring, and takes a deep breath before throwing Samuel's arm over his head, and delivering a brutal Phenomeplex! DC Hennig plants Greg Samuel's head directly into the mat, delivering his finishing move which proves to be excruciatingly painful for Samuel, who have suffered enough damage in that area for one night. DC Hennig, breathing heavily, simply rolls onto the body of his fallen opponent, to go for the pinfall: 1... 2... 3!!

DING! DING! DING!

"Here is your winner, "Mr. Phenomenal" D! C! Henniiiiiiiiiiiig!!!"

DC Hennig sits up, the whites of his eyes very visible as he imagines what would have happened had Greg nailed his finisher from the middle rope. Knowing full well that the outcome could have gone the either way, DC Hennig looks more like a survivor than a victor, opting for heavy panting and a far-away gaze rather than celebration. He stands to his feet and the referee raises his hand, as the Mr. Phenomenal fanatics in the arena applaud him vehemently.

Cedar: And there you have it folks, DC Hennig has earned points to advance in the XWA Intercontinental Championship tournament. But what an outstanding effort from "Mr. Match of the Night" Greg Samuel, who in my estimation has absolutely earned that nickname in this showing.

Miles: I'm just glad I don't have to sit here and look at DC Hennig's putrid pink tights again. I mean what kind of --

Cedar: For Joey Miles, I'm Ted Cedar, and thank you for joining us here tonight for XWA Vendetta. Goodnight folks!
