Sony Pictures' adaptation of Konami's Metal Gear Solid may be closer to finding its director, according to a report from Deadline, who says that the studio is in early talks with Jordan Vogt-Roberts to helm the in-development film.
The Metal Gear Solid movie has been in the works since 2012, when Konami and series creator Hideo Kojima revealed that a Hollywood adaptation was in the works with producer Avi Arad. Metal Gear isn't the only property Arad is trying to bring to the big screen; the former Marvel producer is also hoping to usher the Uncharted, Infamous and Mass Effect franchises to theaters.
Arad is collaborating with Kojima on the Metal Gear Solid movie.
Vogt-Roberts directed last year's The Kings of Summer, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. The Los Angeles-based director also executive produced Mash Up, a sketch show for Comedy Central, and has a number of commercials and short films under his belt. His work is sometimes influenced by video games, which can be seen in his title sequence for Mash Up and heard on the soundtrack to The Kings of Summer, which he says was inspired by the work of Nintendo composer Koji Kondo (Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda).
