Jaylon Brown vs. James Best Empty
PostSubject: Re: Jaylon Brown vs. James Best   Jaylon Brown vs. James Best EmptySat Aug 10, 2013 2:57 pm

Jaylon Brown is still the tough and rough wrestler he has always been, but after losing the Intercontinental Championship to Drake Dysfunction, he decided to take a break from XWA for a couple of weeks. The primal reason being that Brown was afraid his angry attitude - that he had gained after his title loss - was going to get the best of him, but before it could get worse, he fled the situation as soon as possible. Speaking of returns, Dwight Lights, commonly known as James Best, is also making his return to the XWA Universe. Last seen a few months ago, this arrogant veteran is back to show that he is still the strong man he always has been. Tonight, The Prominent Persona goes head-to-head with The Electrician, but with both men built with so much resilience, you'll have to tune in to see who emerges victorious!

With both men having missed the launch of the World Heavyweight Championship tournament, that had begun at Revolutionary Wars, they were behind. Many superstars were able to capture the five points that you achieve from a victory, and these two aren't back to simply lose and get in the negatives; they are already behind. As the bell tolled thrice in the distance, both men let that thought get behind their heads, and bring out the inner beast, it was showtime. Brown, the larger one in this match-up, is able to overpower Dwight early into the match as he clenches his fists and unloads with some thunderous right hands to Dwight's head. Never one to take a beating, Lights takes the low road out with a kick to Brown’s guts, allowing him to grab the Floridian’s broad shoulders and usher for a Collar-and-Elbow Tie-Up. Dwight knew clever ways to get out of tough situations against larger opponents, so he knew what he was doing. The two gladiators jockey for position, but as you’d expect, it is indeed the larger man that acquires the upper hand; maneuvering Lights into the adjacent corner. Just as “The Electrician” is pressed up against the turnbuckle, Jaylon instinctively takes a step back before coming forward hoping for a Clothesline. However, Lights briskly sidesteps and allows Brown to collide with the top turnbuckle. Once there, Dwight starts punching away at Brown’s mid-section! The thousands in attendance watch with multitude of feelings as they feel both love and hatred for the current scene.

Cedar
"It feels nice.. and a bit awry.. to see Dwight Lights back in the ring, yet we're early-on in this match-up and both of these men are really going at it early-on!"

Dennis
"Dwight Lights is here? We're in for a shocker."

Cedar
"Haha! Good one!"

Just as the referee is about to step in to stop the assault, "The Brightest Man in Wrestling" connects with a stiff right to the head of his foe; dropping Brown to his butt. Dwight backs up, but suddenly and quickly, the smaller warrior charges towards Jaylon and raises a knee. However, at the last second, Brown rolls out of the squared circle; sending Lights knee-first into the middle turnbuckle! Jaylon barely wastes any time as he quickly rolls back into the ring; waiting patiently as Dwight stumbles out of the corner backwards. “The Prominent Persona” takes his hands and wraps them around Dwight's waist, lifting him with substantial ease and raising him high above his head before slamming him down onto the canvas with a hefty Release Belly to Back Suplex! The Floridian goes for a quick cover up, however the sad result is only a two count. A little irritated by this, Brown hurries to pick himself up, followed by bringing Lights to a vertical stance as well. He delivers a hard European Uppercut, which really stuns Dwight, but after going for another one, Lights is quick to duck under the oncoming hand and send a kick straight to Brown's chest. Briskly followed by this, "XWA's Lit Star" wraps one arm around Jaylon’s head, takes a wild look around the audience, and slams him face-first onto the canvas with a stiff DDT maneuver!  As if this wasn’t enough pain, the crazy electrician continues to lie next to the downed Brown, and weirdly hooks his far leg across Jaylon’s neck, all while being responded with loud cheers and jeers from the crowd.  Dwight then hooks his hands behind his opponent’s head, pushing forward with his legs and backwards with his hands, applying his solid Koji Clutch submission, REGENERATE! The audience is rather surprised that they’re seeing such a big move so early in the match-up, and now even doubt that this match will go on any longer than this.

Cedar
"My God, a signature submission maneuver so early on in the match!? Christ, that man is really full of watts!"

Dennis
"That was literally the worst electricity pun anyone could ever make. It doesn't even make any sens- anyways, men like James Best are what fuel up the company's energy with talent, tapped potential, and a large magnitude of greatness. So glad to see him back tonight."

Brown flails around like a Magikarp, trying to fight out of the hold or find a way out; whether it involves the ropes or something illegal, he doesn’t care, he is desperate. All while Dwight Lights wildly yells “REGENERAAATE! REGENERAAATE!” Slowly, with one lapse of concentration on the part of Jaylon due to the wild flailing of Dwight’s arm and legs, Brown manages to get off and rise to his knees, but Dwight is strong enough to keep his arms wrapped around Jaylon’s neck. Upon arriving there, Jaylon begins to send his loose elbow into Lights’ abdomen. In an effort to retrieve the situation, “The Electrician” flexes a little tighter but it is to no avail as Jaylon’s shots become more and more rapid. Unable to keep the hold for any longer, Lights loses his grasp as Jaylon frees himself. Just as he exits his opponent’s grasp, Brown decisively spins and connects with a Rolling Elbow; knocking his smaller opposition to the mat once more. Taking advantage of the time he’s bought himself, Jaylon takes a moment to regain his composure; rolling his neck around and rotating his shoulder as he approaches Dwight. Leaning over to pull Lights back to his feet, Brown immediately yanks his foe into a DDT position, but “The Man From the Dark Side With the Force” powers out; pushing his foe away and into the ropes. Suddenly and swiftly, Dwight turns and pounces into the air; latching onto the top rope and balancing his feet on the second rope. Using the elasticity in the ropes, he springboards into the air, twirls his body and connects his long arm at Brown’s face with a violent Springboard Clothesline! Jaylon falls lifelessly on the canvas below, and Lights quickly comes in, hooking his leg for a pin count.

Cedar
"There is so much back and forth action here folks! I can't seem to predict a winner!"

Dennis
"Lights is a veteran, who's played with the veterans, and has held numerous titles, he's not an easy guy to mess with."

When the result of the pin count is a two and a half, Dwight Lights seems to be a bit frustrated by his opponent's tenacity. Peeling Jaylon from the canvas, he returns to a brawl mentality as he begins clobbering Brown with heavy right hands that the Florida native somehow manages to absorb without dropping like a sack of potatoes, instead stumbling backwards dazedly. After a series of successive blows, the referee begins to admonish Lights for the use of closed fists. As Dwight turns toward his opponent, he's surprised to see Jaylon advancing on him and quickly fires his size twelve boot toward the stomach of his opponent, but James Best catches the outstretched appendage to avoid any further damage to his already battered midsection. What he doesn't count on, is his larger opponent utilizing his own agility, and as a result, the other foot of "The Huffman" strikes the back of Dwight's head with a fierce CRACK! Jaylon Brown's bag of tricks seems to be ever-increasing, as his opponent crumbles to the canvas like a freshly demolished building plummeting to the ground. Rather than go for the cover this time, Jaylon throws an arm skyward, before squatting, bracing his hands off of his knees, and daring Lights to 'get up', signaling to the crowd that he's looking to finish his opponent off!

Cedar
"Jaylon Brown is showing how much resilience he truly holds! Such charisma!"

Dennis
"Damn that was a cheap shot! Brown's middle name should be 'cheap.'"

Slowly, “The Brightest Man in Wrestling” climbs to a vertical base, unaware of the danger that lies just ahead of him. As he turns toward Jaylon, the realization of imminent defeat sets in and Dwight enters panic mode. With Jaylon mere feet away from him, the electrician leaves his feet, connecting with a chest-height Dropkick that hits with just enough force to send the Tallahassee native stumbling back into the nearby corner. Dwight senses an opportunity to get back in this; rising to a weary vertical base and charging headlong at his foe with all the force he can muster, throwing his entire body into a Corner Clothesline! Lights rests for a brief moment with his arm draped across Jaylon's chest, moving to the center of the ring with a very sadistic grin. He starts to roar at the audience, although they respond back with more jeers than cheers, this fuels up ‘James Best.’ The crowd expects a very big move coming, but they are only half right. As Lights set his eyes on the dazed Jaylon, he charges forward, and spins 360° before bringing out his elbow and is about to connect at Brown’s face, looking to execute his finisher that is aptly named ‘Illuminati’, but it’s to no avail as the Floridian ducks his oncoming opponent! Before Dwight can even realize he has missed his desired target, “The Prominent Persona” grabs his throat with one hand, and across his torso with the other, and lifts him high in the air. A thunderous SLAM is resounded afterwards, as Lights is carved to the mat below; Brown brilliantly delivering his Lifting Slide Slam finisher maneuver, ‘The One Hit Wonder!’ The crowd roars in exuberance and a few jeers, knowing the Floridian has won this match now. With all that he has left, Jaylon hooks the leg of the downed “Electrician”, and the referee drops down to count. One.. two.. three!

Looks like Dwight Lights is going to be in quite a shock today.

Cedar
"He's done it! The two-time former Intercontinental Champion has defeated the returning Dwight Lights! A very big hand to Mr. Brown!"

Dennis
"That's a shame. Not because Lights lost, because Brown won. He's done nothing but degrade himself ever since he started wrestling. He is not a good wrestler, seldom a good entertainer either."

Looks like I'll say this to you too... "The thousands in attendance watch with multitude of feelings as they feel both love and hatred for the current scene." isn't really a sentence that should be there. iLike seemed to take it a different way, probably because I didn't explain it well, so here's my best attempt. That sentence doesn't help to set the scene as it doesn't really say anything. The fans watch on and have feelings are things we should be able to intrinsically know. If you're telling me how the fans are reacting it's worth saying... Hell, even no action from the fans can be worth describing if you're going for a melancholy feel... but this? This doesn't say anything. It's "fluff," and I think it detracts from the match.

I'm unfamiliar with the character so I'm not going to state this next bit matter-of-factly... but James Best applying a "signature submission" early in the match, to me, is iffy. I know he has been in this XWA before, but I'm unsure if he was the same character or if he has the same move-set. If either of those things aren't true, it's odd that the announcers referred to it as a signature submission. If both of those previous statements were true, I don't think you did a great job of having the announcers put over the returning star.

I don't like having signature moves so early in the match, but it's nice to shake things up and go away from standard progression sometimes.

The finish was nice. I really liked the spot in the corner and the subtle swerve finish to keep things fresh. Fairly good job here.

Entertainment - A good finish helps, but it was fairly decent.
Characterization - Meh. You did alright. Just about average for a writer of your stature.
Progression - Unusual but not bad.
Finish - Strong.
