Arctic Monkeys lead the nominations for this year's NME Awards.
The rock band are up for eight gongs including - Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Album, Best Track and Best Music Video - following the success of their fifth studio record 'AM'.

The band - featuring frontman Alex Turner, guitarist Jamie Cook, bassist Nick O'Malley and drummer Matt Helders - are also nominated for Music Moment Of The Year, Hero Of The Year for Alex and Best Fan Community.

Haim - made up of sisters Alana, Danielle and Este Haim and friend Dash Hutton - follow closely behind with six nominations.
They said: ''We are so excited to be nominated for this year's NME Awards! This will be our first time, so please be gentle...''

The pop rock group are up for Best International Band, Best Live Band, Best Music Video, Best Band Blog or Twitter (Alana), Best Fan Community, and Hero Of The Year (Este).
They also posted on the band's Twitter account: ''WE ARE NOMINATED FOR 6 NME AWARDS! THANK YOU FOR VOTING, WE ARE READY TO RAGE! (sic)''

Queens of The Stone Age, Lily Allen and Arcade Fire have three nominations in a number of categories and fans have been voting in their thousands.
The NME Awards 2014, with Austin, Texas, will take place on Wednesday, February 26 at London's O2 Academy in Brixton.

NME editor Mike Williams said: ''The past 12 months of music have had everything - returning legends, era-defining singles, more albums with a claim to be modern classics than any year in recent memory and tons of massive live moments to celebrate.''

Russell Brand also features in both the Hero Of The Year and Villain Of The Year categories, along with Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Harry Styles

David Cameron and Vladimir Putin, who voters disliked.
