Hopefully SJW/fake protest week is over and we can get back to football instead of watching agendas and people using football to make political points. Bruh......

Man I'm not even one of these nationalistic nuts like most in the Trump base are either but I can see why some people are being turned off by the NFL and their players.

Meh, I think "don't talk about religion/politics" custom is bullshit. It's a custom created by snowflakes who can't handle civil discourse with those having a differing opinion without flipping their shit. This exactly has led to the polarization that we see right now. Because people don't share their ideas. That's why it's easier to demonize those who disagree with you. Nationalistic people are racists and players protesting hate America. If people would actually talk about shit, they would realize that there doesn't have to a fucking villain in every story. That's why teams can protest as a unit, because they actually talk to each other and try to understand each other. At the end of the day, you don't have to agree, but the guy you disagree with doesn't have to be a fucking villain. Politics is life, it's literally the way society is structured. To try to avoid the topic is incredibly stupid, because it's the one thing that affects everyone. From the players' point of view, they have a great platform to push their message, to push the message that is pretty much otherwise not given much prominence. This protest is meant to get people's attention, it's meant to make people uncomfortable. And if people want to stop watching over it, that's their decision, if you don't like it, don't watch. I honestly couldn't give a single solitary fuck if someone gets offended and stops watching. Football is a game, politics is life.

2017 NFL Season Discussion Empty
PostSubject: Re: 2017 NFL Season Discussion   2017 NFL Season Discussion EmptyFri Sep 29, 2017 11:35 pm

Well all of that is idealistic, wouldn't you say? But let's be realistic about the whole issue: the problem is, is that the form of protests is doing nothing but alienating and pissing large groups of people off instead and the message of the whole protest has been poisoned. Furthermore, another problem with this protest is the messenger; most Americans are going to naturally view athletes as part of the elite. All people see are a bunch of "ungrateful millionaires." Football players using the anthem as a prop to protest isn't going to get people to have a positive discussion, it's just going to be met with hostility because 1)people are going to believe you hate America like you said 2) no one wants to see this shit being done during a football game every week, which is why the discussion is being hijacked. It's doing nothing but driving people away. The same people that are being driven away are likely the same people we'll need if we want to get shit done. Hillary and her supporters thought they could win by alienating a certain demographic of people, too, and we're now seeing the results. clown

Also, let's be real: this "protest" is nothing more other than the fact that Trump said something about them lol. Most of these players and owners weren't protesting over shit until Trump said something; it was only a handful of players protesting over racial injustice until last weekend, which is why it's a fake protest now. What Trump said about NFL players probably doesn't even make the top 100 of horrible things he's said about people lmao. It's all just fake outrage being made into something that it's not by people with agendas. And if anything, it's the left who have been demonizing people who just want to see a football game instead of seeing political demonstrations dominate the game and making people feel as if they choose a side. It's easy to understand why this debate is very exhausting to many. We also have to quit alienating people and labeling everyone racist just because not everyone wants to sing Kumbaya and hold hands and shit. However, this isn't me dismissing the original message of the protest because I agree with what the players are protesting, I just think there are other methods that would be more effective in getting the discussion to go in a positive direction. Now I fully understand what Bernie was saying when he said that the left needs a "grassroots movement" because I don't believe the message is getting to a lot of people. At this rate, it's very easy to see Trump winning in 2020 because it seems that a lot of people still have their head's up their ass.

PostSubject: Re: 2017 NFL Season Discussion   2017 NFL Season Discussion EmptySat Sep 30, 2017 12:38 am

I didn't necessarily disagree with much until you said up until you said "And if anything, it's the left who have been demonizing people who just want to see a football game instead of seeing political demonstrations dominate the game and making people feel as if they choose a side"

I care more about what they're protesting than the annoyance of some fans. These are real-life issues. Football is a game of ball. We gotta set our priorities straight, or else we're gonna be fucked. I love football too, but a game of ball is never going to be above real-life issues, no matter how many people are pissed off. Like I said, you don't have to agree with them, a lot of players on these teams don't agree, but they respect their right to protest. And that's fine, everyone gets along. If next week some players want to protest abortion, I wouldn't give a fuck. Why? Because I don't care, we live in a democracy. I wish political issues were more prominently spoken about. The real issue, IMO is the people who want to force players to stand, like we live in authoritarian country. Either stand or lose your job. These are also the same people who complain about college kids censoring right-wing speakers. And they're right to be angry at that when it happens, but when it's left-wingers speaking, then they feel like they need to be shut down. The people who "just want to watch without seeing politics" you speak of are mostly nationalistic people who worship symbols instead of principles.

Trump is a head of the government who suggested that players should be fired for expressing their opinion. If you don't think that's a big deal, you haven't really thought about it much.

Last thing I'll say is that no one is forcing anyone to pick a side. Protesting injustice has always been polarizing and controversial. But you don't blame the victims for all of this. You blame the system. It's not about calling people racist, I personally hate that. I want to get Trump's voters on board with a Progressive platform, because I think that I can convince them to believe that my populism would actually work for them. Trump was able to get a significant amount of Obama's voters because he ran on change. These are the type of voters we can get. But we don't have to stomp on black people to get them on board. Because neutrality never favors the oppressed. And no matter how they protest, they're going to be demonized. We have people who believe Black Lives Matter is akin to the KKK.

I just wish this discussion was less about demonizing and talking passed each other and more about listening and trying to understand each other.

When you have Aaron Rodgers come out and ask fans to lock arms during the national anthem, that's what I mean by making people feeling like they have to choose a side. Was watching a sports show this morning and the host tried to say that everyone that didn't lock arms was racist. Pretty sure most people know that racial injustice is bad.

Locking arms? To my knowledge that's a sign of unity. That's a poor example. And of course there might be some liberal elitist moron who is going to shout racism, because liberal elites need a way to justify their liberalism. They can't fight for economic equality, so they opt for the thing that's not going to hurt their bottom line. They're like mainstream Democratic politicians. And I'm not sure most people do. Those who refused to lock arms, are some of the same people who refuse to acknowledge the issue at all.

All I'm saying is that you're labeled something if you choose to do it or not do it. Either you're a left-wing hippie who hates America for doing it or you're a racist for not doing it. Most people just like standing w/ their hand over their hearts during the anthem.

Personally, I wouldn't have locked arms either. I hate when people get too close. Oh man

Man the Steelers didn't even protest, they stayed in the tunnel to not give themselves the opportunity to protest, and everybody just took it as them protesting. Funny

Errrrrrrrr

It is. But if you REALLY don't want politics in your football games, ignore the politics. But don't pretend like what they're doing is harmful.

So apparently the Browns were celebrating their trade for AJ McCaron and forgot to call in the deal before the deadline. CJ

But it also says a lot about the next class of QB's in the draft if two of the worst teams gave up picks and traded (or tried to trade) for back-up QB's #FeelTheBern
