During today's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced a European launch date of October 4th for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.

The HD remake boasts a total graphical overhaul and some minor gameplay tweaks - you can sail faster, the Wind Waker wand itself is easier to use to control the winds, and the much-maligned collection-heavy latter third of the game has been adjusted.

PostSubject: Zelda: Minish Cap Coming to Wii U Virtual Console   The Legend of Zelda EmptyThu May 22, 2014 3:31 pm

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/05/22/the-legend-of-zelda-the-minish-cap-coming-to-wii-u-virtual-console

Nintendo is bringing The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap to the Wii U Virtual Console.

Listed on Nintendo's official website, the Game Boy Advance game doesn't have a release date yet. The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap was developed by Capcom's Flagship team, which also created The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, and sees Link shrinking down to microscopic size for a grand adventure.

Other Game Boy Advance titles confirmed for the Wii U Virtual Console in the future include Mega Man Battle Network 3: Blue Version and White Version, as well as more Capcom games. "We are working on bringing this and other GBA titles to the North American Virtual Console," a Capcom spokesperson told IGN last month.

In addition, the Australian Classification Board outed two other Game Boy Advance games — Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and F-Zero: GP Legend — for Wii U earlier this year, though neither has been confirmed for release yet. Nintendo also plans on releasing Nintendo DS games on Wii U sometime in the future.

PostSubject: The Legend of Zelda for Wii U: First Details Revealed   The Legend of Zelda EmptyTue Jun 10, 2014 1:07 pm

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/10/e3-2014-the-legend-of-zelda-for-wii-u-first-details

After two successful Zelda projects on Wii U and 3DS, Nintendo unveiled its first details and visual style for the next console installment of The Legend of Zelda. It is scheduled for release in 2015.

Nintendo Producer Eiji Aonuma began his portion of the presentation by revisiting a now-familiar topic: How the development team is "rethinking the conventions of Zelda." Aonuma explored this theme previously in Wind Waker HD and A Link Between Worlds, but this time he focused his thoughts this time around Zelda's world.

Aonuma admits Nintendo captured a vast open world in the original NES Zelda game, and the concept slightly changed after the series shifted to 3D polygon graphics. Hardware limitations made it difficult to create one single large landmass for the player to explore; so separate zones were stitched together to make the world seem bigger. A linear path was established to take players on a continuous journey.

Aonuma expressed that he wants to take the series back to those roots of a continuous open world, one where players can visit areas out of order. "That's a convention we should keep," he enthusiastically said.

Visually, the new look for The Legend of Zelda is stunning and full of rich details. In many ways, it looks like a marked improvement on Zelda: Skyward Sword's painterly art style. You can see individual moving blades of grass, mountains and home-like structures off in the distant.

In the brief demo, a cloaked Link sits on horseback until a tentacle monster appears on the horizon. His horse races off with the monster in pursuit, as a few local herders and animals run for cover. The monster pursues Link across a bridge, breaks a portion of the wooden structure ahead of the hero, and moves in to strike. Link rips off his cloak and reveals his outfit, a blue and yellow tunic, and a trusty bow and arrow. He fires two explosive-tipped arrows to stun the beast and then pulls out a special arrow that transforms before the trailer cuts fades to white.

PostSubject: Eiji Aonuma Addresses Hyrule Warriors’ Place In The Zelda Timeline   The Legend of Zelda EmptyThu Jun 12, 2014 12:32 pm

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/06/11/eiji-aonuma-addresses-hyrule-warriors-place-in-the-zelda-timeline.aspx

I have a personal obsession with the Zelda timeline, and when I brought the topic up with Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma during a recent interview, he didn’t need a translator to know what I was asking about. As soon as he heard the word timeline, he began chuckling.

Is Hyrule Warriors canon? Does it fit in the Zelda timeline?

Aonuma: Within the Zelda canon, there is the timeline, but there has always been the sense of the main story and kind of a side story. Like, Majora's Mask might be considered part of that, though it does exist as part of the timeline. With Hyrule Warriors, there is a link between the two, but it exists as a separate dimension, so it doesn't exist as part of the main canon. Lately I have been thinking of it similar to The Avengers.

Each of the characters has their own timeline, so there shouldn't be any crossover there, but maybe they've been brought together as part of that story?

So it doesn't slot anywhere in the timeline that we know of?

Aonuma: Maybe if you force it in somewhere, but that's not something we want to do. The universe of Hyrule Warriors really is sort of a different universe and it is connected to the timeline of the Zelda series, but it is connected to several different games throughout the series. If you try and force this into it here [Aonuma places his hands in the air indicating different levels of the timeline], then…that information might not be complete. We really don't want to put it in the timeline because it has links to the different parts of the timeline.

We'll be sure to post more from our interview with Aonuma in the near future.

PostSubject: Is Link A Girl In Zelda On Wii U?   The Legend of Zelda EmptyThu Jun 12, 2014 12:36 pm

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/06/11/is-link-a-girl-in-zelda-on-wii-u.aspx

Nintendo is excruciatingly tight-lipped on details related to its recent Wii U Zelda reveal, but series producer Eiji Aonuma did offer his reaction to fan speculation, and in doing so called out a popular comment on the protagonist's gender.

What are your reactions to everyone's reactions to the Zelda Wii U reveal?

Eiji Aonuma: Because I have been at E3, I haven't had much time to spend in doing this research, but I certainly have been checking fan reaction and I am really excited many comments have said how beautiful the game looks. The designers have been working really hard to make sure the visuals look like something players don't expect, or maybe something they haven't seen before, and this applies to not just to the scenery, but to the enemies and things like that.

Another interesting comment I've heard, quite frequently actually, is that, "Oh Link's a woman. Link is female now."

I thought that, too. I thought maybe it was Zelda when I first saw Link on Epona in the distance.

Eiji Aonuma: That might be something that consciously we kind of did, but not to say anything specific – I am not saying anything specific – but, I am hoping people continue to comment, and I will continue to follow the fan comments and reactions to the trailer. I am certainly curious, and I am sure there are things we as developers can glean.

Eiji Aonuma could simply be calling out a repeated comment that stood out to him, but the fact that he brought up the comment on his own, and said that maybe Link's gender was left unspecific on purpose could have greater meaning. Maybe Link is female in the new game, or maybe players can choose a gender at the beginning. Or maybe Link's features are just more feminine than they have been in the past. Whatever the case, Aonuma said we may learn more about the game next year.

PostSubject: The Legend Of Zelda Producer Confirms Wii U Footage Was In-Game   The Legend of Zelda EmptyTue Jun 17, 2014 12:34 am

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/06/16/the-legend-of-zelda-producer-confirms-wii-u-footage-was-in-game-.aspx

It wasn’t the biggest surprise of E3 2014, but fans were nonetheless extremely excited for a first look at The Legend of Zelda on Wii U. One question has popped up since the Nintendo Digital Event a week ago, though. “Was the footage taken from in-game?”

Producer Eiji Aonuma has taken to the Nintendo Miiverse to address this point directly. “Many people from the media kept asking me if the footage from the new Zelda game for Wii U is just a promotional movie, but that really is actual gameplay on Wii U,” Aonuma assures. “Also, I wasn’t kidding about how you will be able to reach the mountains that appear in the distance if you should choose to!”

The Legend of Zelda for Wii U, which does not yet have a subtitle, is currently slated for 2015. For more, check out our interview with Aonuma from E3 2014.

PostSubject: The Legend of Zelda: Nintendo has new ideas for another 3DS entry   The Legend of Zelda EmptyFri Jul 04, 2014 7:35 am

Another instalment in The Legend of Zelda franchise is being conceived for 3DS, Nintendo has confirmed.

The unannounced project will implement new ideas that will push the series forward, according to the publisher.

"We are gradually changing the structure of The Legend of Zelda series, and we are preparing to newly evolve the series for Wii U," series creator Shigeru Miyamoto said in a recent shareholders meeting.

"In addition to that, we have ideas for Nintendo 3DS which we have not announced yet, so I hope you will look forward to them."

Last month, the firm unveiled the Wii U console's first original Zelda entry.

The untitled game was voted Best Game of E3 2014 by Digital Spy readers.

Meanwhile, Miyamoto was recently re-elected along with other Nintendo executives.

The 3DS received The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds in 2013.

PostSubject: Miyamoto Doesn't Like to Call Zelda Wii U 'Open World'   The Legend of Zelda EmptyFri Jul 04, 2014 11:07 am

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/07/04/miyamoto-doesnt-like-to-call-zelda-wii-u-open-world

The Legend of Zelda creator Shigeru Myamoto has suggested that Zelda's next Wii U adventure may not be quite the "open world" game we might have been expecting after this year's E3.

Speaking at a Q & A between Nintendo & its investors at  Nintendo's annual shareholders meeting last week, Miyamoto said that he prefers not to use the term.

"I prefer not to use the generally used term “open world” when developing software, but we used this term [at E3] in order to make it easier for consumers to understand. This term means that there is a large world in which players can do numerous things daily."

With this said, Miyamoto does not hesitate to call  Zelda's new world  "vast."

"In the traditional “The Legend of Zelda” series, the player would play one dungeon at a time. For example, if there are eight dungeons, at the fourth dungeon, some players may think, “I’m already halfway through the game,” while other players may think, “I still have half of the game to play.” We are trying to gradually break down such mechanism and develop a game style in which you can enjoy “The Legend of Zelda” freely in a vast world, whenever you find the time to do so."

PostSubject: The Legend of Zelda Is Still Coming to Wii U   The Legend of Zelda EmptyTue Jun 16, 2015 2:41 pm

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/16/e3-2015-the-legend-of-zelda-still-coming-to-wii-u?utm_source=IGN%20hub%20page&utm_medium=IGN%20(front%20page)&utm_content=12&utm_campaign=Blogroll

Acclaimed Nintendo Game Designer Shigeru Miyamoto told IGN that The Legend of Zelda is still coming to Wii U.

Last March, Nintendo announced that Zelda Wii U wouldn't release in 2015. In April, the company revealed a new dedicated gaming platform called codename NX was in development during a press conference about its partnership to make smartphone games. These two events kicked off a wave of speculation as to whether or not Zelda would release on Nintendo's current home console.

"We're here to talk about Star Fox but Zelda is still coming to Wii U," Miyamoto said through an interpreter, "so don't worry about that."

Miyamoto continued, "My thing with E3 is that we always focus on what's coming out in the immediate future. We have some really great Zelda footage and, at some point we will be showing that off, but not today."

We're still not clear if Zelda Wii U will receive the same treatment as Zelda: Twilight Princess, an installment that released on Wii and the previous generation GameCube console.

Miyamoto is the General Manager of Nintendo's Entertainment and Analysis division. He has overseen a string of influential games during his career including Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Star Fox.

They need games to sell The Wii U.

I would also guess they started making this game before that decision was made.

PostSubject: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Spotted for Wii U   The Legend of Zelda EmptyWed Oct 14, 2015 9:29 am

A Nintendo fan who's done a little digging in the Wii U eShop's backend has found mounting evidence that a HD re-release of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is in the works.

It all started when an icon for Twilight Princess was found in the system, leading some to suspect an emulated port could be on the way. Now, however, Nintendo's eShop servers have started showing a listing for Twilight Princess HD, suggesting a full remastering could be on the cards.

First release back in 2006, Twilight Princess appeared as both one of the last games on GameCube and one of the launch titles for the Wii. It was notably darker than the game that came before it, The Wind Waker, which has already received the HD treatment on Wii U.

We've reached out to Nintendo for comment and will update the story when we hear back. In the meantime, check out our list of 10 Zelda characters we're adamant should join Agitha in the Hyrule Warriors roster.

I didn't wanna read that top ten list anyway. Sad

Also, this is good news. I didn't like the Wii version of Twilight Princess because of the controls, but if they make them more Wii U-ish controls, I may very well enjoy it.
