| Subject: WCW 2004 - EWR Tue Sep 27, 2016 9:47 pm | |
| Way back in the olden days, I played a game of EWR where I took WCW from the point where they would have been purchased and continued them as if they had been bought by someone else. It went for about a year, but I had plans for far into the future. So what I did was take the January 2004 data and edit it to take what I had done/planned into account. So this game basically starts after WCW has clawed their way back up for 3 years and finally gotten their timeslot back for Nitro to restart the Monday Night War. For a more detailed explanation, here's the ReadMe I made for it. - Code:
-
This game data is a continuation of the "Fusient Buys WCW" April 2001 Data found in the G Network. WCW has restarted from the bottom and built themselves back up into a viable competitor in the American Wrestling Market.
This data is meant to be played as either WCW or WWE, the majority of the indy promotions in the game are unchanged. As Jeff Jarrett remains in WCW, TNA does not exist.
The game begins on January 1, 2004.
On March 26, 2001, Eric Bischoff and Fusient Media Ventures purchased World Championship Wrestling after securing a TV Deal with Fox. After producing a single show: "WCW Reborn" in April, WCW's new show on Fox, "Amped" debuted on Saturday, May 5, 2001.
To get off on the right foot, the new and improved WCW began a blockbuster new storyline, where new owner Eric Bischoff attempted to consolidate all the power in the company to himself from WCW CEO Ric Flair and new WCW Commissioner Hulk Hogan. Bischoff surrounded himself with wrestlers who felt that the new regime was not in their best interests, naming the group "Bischoff's Army". Almost immediately, Bischoff's Army gained gold when Goldberg became World Heavyweight Champion. The group nearly took full power at Fall Brawl, but lost to Hogan's team in the WarGames match. However, Bischoff would defeat Hogan in a singles match at Halloween Havoc, Taking full control of WCW and immediately awarding the Tag Titles to his cronies, Kronik. Their control would not last long, however, as rising star Dustin Rhodes would dethrone Goldberg, taking his World Title at Mayhem. Hogan would win his Commissioner spot back at Starrcade, but Goldberg would win his title back from Rhodes in a Steel cage, only to be attacked by the returning Sid Vicious.
February 2002 saw the return of WCW Worldwide, and it began to serve as the B-Show, showcasing the Cruiserweight and Tag Divisions.
Unable to maintain full power, Bischoff's army decided to turn their attention on keeping a stranglehold on the World Heavyweight Title, adding new members, such as Buff Bagwell and former foe Booker T. Goldberg would hold onto the belt for 7 long months, and after each questionable defense, he would menacingly ask "Who's Next?" Only one viable challenger remained by Summer, and that was Long-Reigning US Champion Mike Awesome. Surely enough, a match between the two big man was set for the Great American Bash. After being cost his US Title against Jeff Jarrett, Awesome would not be stopped, and he won the title from Goldberg at the Bash, and would hold the title for several months. After another WarGames loss to a Hogan-Led team, Bischoff was forced off of TV altogether, only able to run the company from behind the scenes. Bischoff's Army, continued under the leadership of Goldberg, continued after Awesome's championship, but were not as tightly knit a group as before. Mike Awesome was given Torrie Wilson as a manager/romantic interest, cementing his spot as a top babyface. However, his title reign would be cut short just before Starrcade, as Bischoff's Army finally defeated him, with Booker T gaining the title.
Throughout 2002, another young star was rising in the Cruiserweight division. This star was AJ Styles, who would win the Cruiserweight Title 3 times in under a year before exploding into the Main Event scene.
After only a single successful defense against Sting at Starrcade 2002, Booker T would drop the title to the upstart Styles at Sin, and this would cause a Rift in Bischoff's Army. After several attempts in regaining the title, Goldberg and Booker would have enough of each other, splitting away from the Army, effectively ending it and starting a lengthy, personal feud between the former world champs. Styles would then face off against Mike Awesome, and after a greuling match, the champion would retain using questionable means, only to attack Awesome after a handshake, turning himself heel. Awesome would win the title the very next month, however, and set up an other face vs face title match against Dustin Rhodes at Mayhem, which Rhodes won. In late 2003, WCW would try once again to create a women's division, hiring Japanese star Manami Toyota to be the centerpiece.
After nearly 3 years of rebuilding and regrouping, WCW and Fox agreed to a new deal, which would restart the Monday Night Wars. Monday Nitro would return. WCW Amped made a move to FX in mid-December, and Nitro made its return the night after Starrcade on Fox itself, going head-to-head with Raw for the first time since March 2001. The December 29 Nitro saw the return of Raven to WCW after a year in Ring of Honor, when he attacked WCW Tag Champs Shane Douglas and Chris Candido, as well as a Dustin Rhodes World Title defense against Sid Vicious. Raw won the first battle of the renewed war, 3.5 to 3.1, but WCW saw this as just the start, a stepping stone to eventual victory.
WCW is on the rise it seems, with a completely healthy roster (Aside from Jeff Jarrett's broken leg - He is due back in March). Can you take them to the top?
Meanwhile, in the WWF, things continued as they normally would have after Wrestlemania. For a while, anyway...
After turning heel at Wrestlemania, Steve Austin would begin to team with Triple H, and together they would dominate the main event scene for the next two months. However, the Power Trip angle would be scrapped following Triple H's injury at in late May. With HHH gone, Austin would immediately turn face after a DQ loss to Chris Benoit at King of the Ring. The newest star to be pushed in the WWF was William Regal, as he would start an Anti-American stable in mid-2001, called "The Foreign X-Change". After recruiting Edge and Christian, Test, Rikishi, Tajiri, and later Super Crazy, Regal rose to the top of the WWF, winning the WWF title from Austin at Summerslam. This was followed by 3 months of swindling, cheap title defenses, and degradation of America. The locker room was fed up. Team USA, consisting of the newly-face Kurt Angle, The Undertaker, Eddie Guerrero, Rhyno, and the returning Jim Duggan beat the Foreign X-Change at Survivor Series, forcing them to disband. If F-X would have won, Regal wouldn't have had to defend the WWF title until Wrestlemania. It really didn't bode well for him, as he lost the belt to Undertaker the next night on Raw
Angle's face turn and role in putting down the Foreign X-Change, he became one of the top stars in the WWF, winning the title from Taker shorly after the American Badass's heel turn.
2002 saw the premature retirement of Stone Cold Steve Austin, due to excessive neck and knee injuries, as well as an overcrowding of the main event scene. With Austin gone, Royal Rumble Winner Triple H immediately took charge, winning the WWF Title from Angle at Backlash, and holding it for the better part of 2002. 2002 also saw the rise of "The Next Big Thing" Brock Lesnar. After dominating the midcard of the newly renamed WWE for several months, the big man would turn face and win the Royal Rumble in 2003, setting up a match with Triple H at Wrestlemania. After winning the belt with an unbelievable Shooting Star Press, Lesnar took on all comers, from Triple H to Regal to The Big Show, whom he infamously broke the ring with on an episode of SmackDown. However, the one obstacle Lesnar couldn't pass was a red-hot Kurt Angle, who would dethrone the youngest-ever WWE Champion at Summerslam. After the defeat, Lesnar snapped, turning heel and becoming more ruthless than ever, winning the belt back from Angle in their rematch at Survivor Series.
All signs seem to point at Angle winning the Royal Rumble in 2004, building toward Angle Lesnar III at Wrestlemania 20, but it's anyone's ballgame in WWE, with everyone hungry for a shot. On December 29, WCW Nitro returned to Monday Nights, re-igniting the monday night wars. Raw, however, won the first battle, and the feeling backstage is that they will win many more. However, just to be safe, WWE has reportedly contacted The Rock about a full time return. He has only appeared part-time since Wrestlemania XIX due to commitments in Hollywood, and hasn't been seen at all in WWE since Summerslam.
WWE's mix of veterans and rising stars leaves them in a good place to compete with the upstart WCW. Can you and Vince finally crush the competition?

2/23/2004 RAW: 3.2 Nitro: 3.1 (Superbrawl Aftermath)
WWE seems to be holding a steady lead in the early going of this new monday night war, but to WCW's credit, they've come pretty darn close a couple times. The 1/26 and 2/23 Nitros were both great shows, but Raw just managed to edge them out both times. However, with Raw getting solid victories in both of WCW's PPV weeks (as well as both of their own), WWE still has the clear edge out of the gate in this second go-around.
[I took the TV ratings the game gave me and divided them by 2, cause according to the records, Raw was getting high 3s/low 4s around this time. Most of the time that gives me 2.8-2.95 for Nitro and 2.85-3.1 for Raw every week, so I added and subtracted a bit here and there for realism's sake based on our respective PPV schedules. Basically, I haven't beaten Raw yet, but I'm close.] |

| Glen is his real first name, and I wanted his last name to start with a K just to reference him being Kane. Glenn Karver totally sounds like a horror villain, so I went with that. |

| The Second Monday Night War:
The First Victory: WrestleMania Season
3/1/2004 RAW: 3.1 Nitro: 3.1
3/8/2004 RAW: 3.21 Nitro: 3.18
3/15/2004 RAW: 3.4 Nitro: 3.05(Go-Home to Uncensored)
3/22/2004 RAW: 3.3(Go-Home to WrestleMania) Nitro: 3.5 (Uncensored Aftermath)
The battle heated up significantly in March, with virtual rating ties two weeks in a row to start the month. Once again, however, Raw beat Nitro decisively in WCW's PPV week, this time thanks to the return of The Rock to confront Undertaker. But the next week, after the fantastic show that WCW put on at Uncensored, they returned the favor, winning the ratings battle for the first time since October of 1998 with a show that featured the return of Sting to save Dustin Rhodes from an attack from Glenn Karver.
[On March 1st I was literally 0.01 behind Raw, 5.69 to 5.68, and on the 8th I was 0.03 behind, 5.70 to 5.67. Finally got ahead of them on the 22nd, ended up being 5.62 to 5.43. The ratings are slowly dropping because both mine and WWE's PI are going down every week due to being at war with each other, but we both seem to be flattening out as the industry is entering a boom and we're starting to get more PI back for each show we do.]
Meanwhile, in WWE...
In response to recent developments involving WCW's extremely strong showing at Uncensored and the following night's ratings shift, WWE pulled out all the stops at Wrestlemania XX, putting out two match of the year candidates to highlight what was otherwise a very solid event from Madison Square Garden. As expected, Kurt Angle got his revenge on Brock Lesnar to regain the WWE title in an epic 30-minute broadway, while Eddie Guerrero retained the Intercontinental Championship against William Regal in a 24-minute bout that was one botched spot away from being WWE's first ***** match in 7 years. Elsewhere, The Undertaker defeated The Rock to remain undefeated at Wrestlemania, and Chris Benoit outlasted Triple H in a brutal Street Fight for the upset of the night. With both WWE and WCW putting out incredibly good PPVs on back-to-back Sundays, and competition being in full swing, it's safe to say that it's a great time to be a wrestling fan again. |

84%, not quite as good as last month, but still a solid show.
*The story to this is that Booker thinks he is being treated unfairly by management, so he's assaulted Commissioner Hogan multiple times in the past few weeks. Hogan suspended him and wanted to make him earn his job back by beating him in a match, but was told by WCW CEO Ric Flair that it was against the rules for the Commissioner to book themselves in a singles match. Therefore, Hogan simply came out and called Booker out to the ring, asking for a straight up fight to settle it man to man. |

Raw seems to have regressed back to the booking style of the attitude era, putting PPV draws on free TV in an attempt to take viewers away from Nitro after losing a handful of weeks to WCW in the ratings. The most egregious of these was the Elimination Chamber match on May 17, which saw Kurt Angle retain the WWE Title ahead of his Judgement Day match with The Undertaker.
[I'm embellishing a bit. Nitro's actually beaten Raw every week since March 29 and WWE has dropped to about 15% PI. However, that's not a fun story, so I'm beefing up their ratings a smidge.] |

| TJ said earlier that he's EZ Money.
Although, that doesn't really answer the question for me cause I have no clue who the fuck EZ Money is. |
