The sketch, which features on James' The Late Late Show on CBS, sees singers and musicians such as Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, Selena Gomez, Adele and One Direction join the host in the car as they belt out some of their most famous hits.

Despite James previously admitting he was unsure how successful Carpool Karaoke would be, it has gone on to be incredibly popular, with the videos of the sketches on YouTube collectively going past 830 million.

Now Apple Music are set to host a new 16-part spinoff series of the sketch, with James executive producing. He is not expected to host the new series, but will continue to have the segment on his own show - separate from the spinoff.

"We love music, and Carpool Karaoke celebrates it in a fun and unique way that is a hit with audiences of all ages," Eddy Cue, Apple's senior Vice President of Internet software and services, said. "It's a perfect fit for Apple Music - bringing subscribers exclusive access to their favourite artists and celebrities who come along for the ride."

Some of the most memorable moments on Carpool Karaoke included James sending a text to Leonardo DiCaprio from Jennifer's phone, and the actor replying to his "boo", and U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama singing along to Missy Elliott's Get Ur Freak On with the rapper herself.

The Late Late Show With James Corden's executive producer Ben Winston will also be involved in making the new series alongside his production company, and said in a statement: "We couldn't be more excited to be partnering with Apple Music on this exciting new series of Carpool Karaoke.

"The joy of Carpool is both the intimacy it creates, while seeing the love our passengers have for music. Where better to showcase that than with Apple Music?"

It is hoped that the spinoff will help further Apple Music's streaming service, which is currently being beaten by Spotify, who have 13 million more subscribers.

The Carpool Karaoke spinoff has yet to have a start date.
