England and Russia face being thrown out of Euro 2016 if scenes of serious fan disorder continue, UEFA's executive committee has warned.

Ugly scenes both before and during Saturday night's Group B game in Marseille left a number of supporters injured, with one England fan in a critical condition in hospital.

UEFA was swift to open disciplinary proceedings against the Football Union of Russia for alleged crowd disturbances, racist behaviour and the setting off of fireworks towards the end of the game.

But now their executive committee has gone one step further in a strongly worded statement which indicates the governing body will not hesitate to impose the ultimate sanction.

The statement read: "The UEFA Executive Committee would like to express its disgust for the violent clashes which occurred in the city of Marseille.

"Such unacceptable behaviour by so-called supporters of the national teams of England and Russia has no place in football, a sport we must protect and defend.

"The UEFA Executive Committee has warned both football associations that - irrespective of any decisions taken by the independent disciplinary bodies relating to incidents inside the stadium - it will not hesitate to impose additional sanctions on the Football Association (FA) and the Russian Football Union (RFU), including the potential disqualification of their respective teams from the tournament, should such violence occur again.

"We urge both the FA and the RFU to appeal to their supporters to behave in a responsible and respectful manner.

"We would also like to publicly voice our support for the work of the French Authorities and security forces for their efforts to deliver a safe and secure tournament in challenging
circumstances."

Bunch of thugs they are no real football fans, they are only out there to cause trouble.
The majority of the fans are well behaved I'm sure but 3 nights of fighting is a downright disgrace.
The people they can catch via cctv fighting should be banned for life for any tournaments.

Police in Lille have used tear gas on fans following scuffles in the city centre.

Supporters were seen running through the streets before officers attempted to disperse them by firing the gas into the crowds.

Fans from England, Wales, Slovakia and Russia have been gathering in the city for Group B matches between the countries.

A large group of fans were congregated at the Place des Reignaux when officers used the spray and let off a canister. A loud bang was also heard.

Supporters held their shirts over their mouths and left the scene rubbing their eyes and spitting.

In footage posted online by ex-England footballer Stan Collymore, one man wearing a green hat is seen smashing wing mirrors off cars parked on the street.

Mr Collymore said: "Somebody threw a, not a grenade, something that went bang towards some England fans and the England fans have just run."

Russia are likely out of it anyways, so they should deport anyone who starts anymore trouble immediately.

Six Russians arriving from southern France have been arrested in Germany after beating and kicking Spanish tourists, injuring one of them seriously, police said this morning.

The suspects, who are aged between 26 and 30, were making a stop at the western city of Cologne after leaving Marseille, where the worst violence at an international tournament since the 1998 World Cup in France erupted last Saturday between Russian and English football thugs.

German police said the men acted in an "extremely aggressive and brutal manner" towards three Spanish nationals - two tourists and their guide yesterday.

The Russians "beat and kicked" their victims, leaving one seriously wounded, police said, without giving details on what sparked the attack.

Police arrested five assailants on site, but one got away.

The sixth was subsequently arrested at the Cologne-Bonn airport, where the suspects had been due to board a flight.

The men had European Championship tickets for two Russian matches against England and Slovakia, and were carrying "typical objects used by hooligans including masks and gumshields".

German police said they will contact their French colleagues to determine if the men had been involved in the fan violence that had plagued Euro 2016 in France.
