Marvel Studios' president affirms Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson will have her own solo film in the plan of Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Captain America: Civil War is the fifth time Scarlett Johansson plays Natasha Romanov, a.k.a Black Widow in Marvel films. The previous films include Iron Man 2 (2010), Marvel's The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). This characteristic is loved and supported a lot but has never got a standalone film.
Audiences have repeatedly expressed their desire for a solo film telling us more about Black Widow's life. However, these proposals seemed not to be paid attention as much as expected. Even in the series of upcoming blockbusters until 2019, there is no Black Widow movie in it.
Until recently, president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, hinted that Black Widow will have her solo film in Phase 4 of Marvel Cinematic Universe. But he has never affirmed it surely.
But in the recent interview with Deadline, Kevin Feige officially confirmed it, which makes the fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as of Marvel Comics super excited.
Feige addressed the question, while specifying that it won't happen before the current run of films is complete in 2019. "Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then," he says. "I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow. We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a stand-alone franchise."
So finally, Black Widow can stop her fate of being the background, overshadowed by superheroes such as Iron Man and Captain America.
However, some are still not really satisfied because Black Widow, the first female Avenger, is not the first female superhero to have a standalone film in Marvel Cinematic Universe. That title goes to Captain Marvel (Miss Marvel) expected to release on 08/03/2019.
