Hitman 2: Silent Assassin came out in 2002 for the PS2, Xbox, GameCube and PC to largely positive reviews including an 8.7 from IGN. Reviewer Steve Butts wrote "while the title has significant improvements over the earlier version, it's a phenomenal game in its own right and one that's sure to have broad appeal, particularly among those gamers who like to put a little more thought in to their carnage."
Next year, the series will be celebrating its sixteenth anniversary with a soft-reboot simply called Hitman, that will see Agent 47 executing his contracts across the globe in open-world maps that allow more freedom of action than the more linear Hitman: Absolution. The new game will also have a staggered release plan that will see new sections of the game released over several months. We took a closer look at this plan in the video below:
Hitman also returned to the big screen this year with Hitman: Agent 47 starring Homeland's Rupert Friend as the eponymous silent assassin as he hunts down the daughter of the man who created him. The movie released on August 22nd and has made $82,347,65 worldwide. IGN's Josh Lasser gave the movie a 6.0, stating that the story line might be unsatisfying for fans but great for "those who just want to see some fun stunts and a bunch of fairly good action sequences strung together with more than a little flair. That is, provided one doesn't think too much about why any of the action takes place."
For those who'd rather commit ruthless assassination rather than watch it, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin will be free until Sunday November 29th.
