Beginning next week, PlayStation 4 owners will be able to purchase avatars from their consoles.
The official PlayStation Twitter account sent out a tweet saying PS4 users can purchase avatars now, but no options are available on the console or the PS Store website. A PlayStation representative confirmed the tweet was in error and the PS4 avatar update will hit next week.
A follow up tweet also clarified the error in the initial announcement.
Previously, PS4 users could obtain avatars by going through a PS3 or directly from the PlayStation Store website. Avatars purchased from the site would need to be accessed via the PS3.
Sony expects PS3 avatars to transfer over to PS4 sometime soon.
This incoming update was recently included in a questionnaire from Sony, asking PS4 players what they wanted to see in the next major PS4 update. Other options included the long sought after ability to change PSN IDs, online friends notifications, custom backgrounds, appearing offline, and PS1 and PS2 classics.
It is not clear at this time if any of the other options on the questionnaire will be included next week.
PS4’s last system update rolled out new Share Play and Broadcast features like watching friends play, or trying a friend’s game with their permission.
