The younger versions of well-established characters in the X-Men cinematic universe will surprise moviegoers when they see Apocalypse, according to director Bryan Singer.
Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops) and Alexandra Shipp Storm will offer very different takes on the characters we've seen in the prior films.
"These are very different characters than they were in the films X-Men 1, 2, and 3,” Singer told Yahoo! Movies.
That said, the character Singer expects to make the largest impact on audiences is Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac.
"X-Men has always centered around the fight between mutants and humans. This one’s a bit different," he added. "It deals with the concept of ancient mutanism, gods and men. It deals with issues that are global. Apocalypse makes no distinction between humans and mutants, only between the weak and the strong."
X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016. For an early look at the film's star antagonist, check out this poster of Apocalypse from San Diego Comic Con.
