Guys like Punk, Bryan, etc. aren’t going to be done for many reasons. As mentioned, most have it in their contracts that their likeness is only to be merchandised by WWE. In Punk’s case, there is a tremendous glut of CM Punk figures out there still. He’s been out of the WWE for over a year yet is still easy to find in most stores. He is certainly someone of name value and stature, but the general consensus is that it would be a spot that could be better served for a person who has never had a figure before. I don’t think Punk could make or break a line when he has, quite literally, 100 different figures out there already.
WWE does a tremendous job marketing their characters, and when it comes to the toys, they really don’t hold back (nor should they have…Punk was always a top merchandise seller). It’s better for us, in my opinion, to do those throwbacks that wouldn’t be duplicates…guys like Nigel, Steve Corino, Delirious, etc.
Does that mean Punk would/could never be done? Not necessarily. Remember, it’s not just up to us, but ROH as well who gets made. Every wave is agreed upon by both our companies. As mentioned before, the goal is to do as much as we can do with fresh faces in the action figure world. If opportunity comes to do Punk or someone similar, it’s something we’d talk about, but given his current status, it’s very unlikely.
