Disney is currently looking into expanding its reach within the television sphere by considering creating dedicated channels for its Marvel and Star Wars properties.
Company CEO Robert Iger suggested such a move during last week's conference call, noting that while Disney already has a major stake in movies, theme parks, and toys, there's plenty of other areas for it to grow.
"We have said that with these channels and these brands -- ESPN, ABC, Disney, maybe even down the road something related to Star Wars and Marvel -- we do have an ability as a company to take product, specifically filmed entertainment, television, movies, directly to consumers," Iger said (via Daily Finance).
Both Marvel and Star Wars have proven to be to be cash cows, and it doesn't look like that's about to end anytime soon. After all, Disney's latest Marvel film, Avengers: Age of Ultron, has passed $1 billion in ticket sales.
