Returning The Titan Empty
PostSubject: Returning The Titan   Returning The Titan EmptyMon May 25, 2015 3:14 pm

What is this, you may ask? I recently did a project for school about a book that we read. Naturally, being a wrestling fan, I read 'Titan Sinking', a book chronicling the year 1995 in the WWF. Then we were allowed to do a creative project, of our choice, so I decided to rebook the year of WWF month by month. Now, I want to share this creative endeavor with all of you.

Where We Stand Following 1994

November 26th, 1994. Three days following the successful WWF Survivor Series event, the World Wrestling Federation began being fueled by Diesel-power. At the Survivor Series, Bob Backlund - a former WWF champion in the early eighties who came back for his final swansong - captured the WWF World championship from Bret Hart - the most popular wrestler in the WWF at the time, who had been a loyal asset for the company ever since his debut in the late eighties - in a shocking match. Backlund, playing the bad guy, regained the championship with a little help from Owen Hart - Bret's younger brother who was always jealous and mad from living in his big brother's gigantic shadow. That was a moment of revenge for the much underutilized Owen, who was unsuccessful in beating his brother for the WWF championship at WWF SummerSlam in a critically acclaimed steel cage match. However, Bob Backlund's reign with the championship ended at three days when Diesel - a seven foot tall cool and cocky fan favorite with jet black hair - pinned him in the middle of the ring in Madison Square Garden in a record-shattering eight seconds. With the WWF hype machine firmly behind Diesel, the World Wrestling Federation had their eyes set on the new year as they would hope Diesel-power would fuel the WWF to reach new heights.

The WWF during its New Generation - the period of time between 1993 and 1996 - had one constant: crazy gimmicks that most often than not failed. However, The Undertaker made his gimmick stick and he became one of the top guys in the company. The Undertaker - a near seven foot tall wrestling zombie (not the typical green brain eating zombie, but more of a dark macabre zombie closely linked to death) - had found himself a target of The Million Dollar Corporation - a group led by Ted DiBiase (a rich businessman who always uses his wealth to his advantage). Ted DiBiase's mission was to force The Undertaker out of the World Wrestling Federation, but because of mind games they found themselves involved in the feud, as Irwin R. Schyster - a taxman who was also one of DiBiase's wrestlers - interfered in Undertaker's casket match against the Japanese super-heavyweight Yokozuna with a devastating attack. Ultimately, The Undertaker prevailed at the Survivor Series when he locked Yokozuna in the solid casket, as Yokozuna was never heard from again for the rest of 1994. Ted DiBiase and Irwin R. Schyster didn't want to stop there as the tax man regularly visited graveyards to repossess tombstones and burial plots from the dead who didn't pay their taxes. You never mess with a man's home, otherwise it gets personal. For The Undertaker, this was as personal as it can get.

Razor Ramon - a Floridian of Cuban descent who oozes machismo - rose up the ranks of the World Wrestling Federation throughout the year as he captured the WWF Intercontinental championship from Diesel at WWF SummerSlam. Following his big win in August, Razor took on all comers and challengers as he proved his worth as a worthy champion in the wild world of the WWF. Following the Survivor Series, where they stood on opposite sides of the rings in two different teams, Razor Ramon had found himself a new challenger in, Double J, Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett - a country singer who often wore flashy costumes and strutted in arrogance - often cheated in his matches thanks to his roadie, The Roadie. For the weeks leading into 1995, things became heated between the two men as they looked to do battle in the new year for the WWF Intercontinental championship. Would Double J finally capture World Wrestling Federation gold or will he just be another casualty of the Bad Guy?

Coming out of the Survivor Series, one thing was certain: the team of Diesel and Shawn Michaels had finally come to an end as the former best friends became worst enemies. Shawn Michaels - a veteran in the WWF known to many as the Heart Break Kid was an egotistical maniac who always wanted to be the man - had delivered his patented superkick, a move in which he calls the Sweet Chin Music, accidentally to the seven footer that cost them the five on five elimination tag team match (where the team of Diesel, Michaels, Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, and Jeff Jarrett lost to the team of Razor Ramon, The 1-2-3 Kid, British Bulldog, Fatu, and Sione). This was the last straw for the giant Diesel who made it pubicly known that he was disbanding his alliance with Michaels, subsequently vacating the WWF World Tag Team championships. A few days later, Diesel would defeat Bob Backlund in Madison Square Garden to capture the WWF championship,  a fact Shawn Michaels would not forget as he often insulted the new champion while performing announcing duties alongside Vince McMahon. Things were just getting started for these two former friends as they looked towards the inevitable clash in the new year. But, the questioned remained, when would these two finally get their hands on each other?

Other happenings in the WWF...

- The tournament to crown the new WWF Tag Team champions had begun following the titles being vacated at the Survivor Series. Eight teams put their names into the hat as they battled it out in a tournament that would ultimately conclude at the next WWF pay-per-view event: the Royal Rumble. The Million Dollar Corporation, consisting of Tatanka - a native American wrestler - and Bam Bam Bigelow, had beaten the Men on a Mission, a stereotypical African-American rap group consisting of Mo and five-hundred pound Mabel. The plucky underdog team of 1-2-3 Kid and Bob "Sparky" Holly advanced by defeating the team of Timothy Well and Steven Dunn. The Headshrinkers, a group of wild Samoans consisting of Fatu and Sionne, defeated the team of Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart via disqualification to advance in the tournament, Finally, the team known as The Heavenly Bodies, the duo of Jimmy del Ray and Tom Prichard, defeated The Bushwackers, Butch and Luke, to make their claim in the next round of the tournament. Which team will ultimately become the new WWF Tag Team champions and perhaps set the WWF on fire in 1995?

- Another tag team that has formed in the World Wrestling Federation is the group known as the Allied Powers, a name based on the actual name of the United Kingdom and United States friendship during World War II, which consisted of The British Bulldog and Lex Luger. Both Bulldog and Luger were proud patriots of their respective countries. They share a lot of similarities, both having terrible haircuts and big muscles, and they look to take 1995 by storm to prove that the alliance between the two countries is stronger than ever.

- The WWF Women's championship has always been on the backburner throughout much of the nineties. However, Alundra Blayze - a fiery blond haired hard worker - had set the WWF ablaze when she won the championship in 1993. Since then, she had a lengthy run defeating almost every single one of her opponents, until she lost the championship to Bull Nakano in Tokyo, Japan in 1994. Bull Nakano - a monstrous Japanese woman with a painted face and hair sticking straight up - went on a warpath for the remainder of 1994, becoming a dominant force in the World Wrestling Federation as well as the All Japan Women's Wrestling - a wrestling promotion in Japan that only scheduled women's wrestling or as it is called over there, Joshi Puroresu.

JANUARY 1995 - THE ROYAL RUMBLE

January is a very special period of time for most World Wrestling Federation fans, as it brings the annual special attraction known as the Royal Rumble to your homes through pay-per-view. The Royal Rumble, created by WWF legend Pat Patterson in 1988 that led to the first Royal Rumble match being held in Hamilton, Ontario, is a thirty man contest where two men start the match and following two minutes another competitor enters the fray. The match goes on until there is only one man standing in the ring after every other competitor has been eliminated. You can only be eliminated by being thrown over the top rope and having both of your feet touch the floor. At the 1994 Royal Rumble event, both Lex Luger and Bret Hart won the contest as they both went over the top rope at the same and their feet touched the floor at the same time. The winner of the Royal Rumble match is guaranteed a match for the WWF championship at WrestleMania.

Already booked by the World Wrestling Federation was the match between Bret Hart and Diesel for the latter's WWF World championship, so as I am rebooking, I cannot schedule those two in any other matches. Also advertized by the WWF at the end of 1994 was the match between Razor Ramon and Jeff Jarrett for the former's WWF Intercontinental championship. However, the tournament to crown the new WWF Tag Team champions was always set to end at the Royal Rumble event, but it's more flexible for my rebooking. If I were booking the WWF at the time, I would have made the Million Dollar Corporation, consisting of Tatanka and Bam Bam Bigelow, advance to the finals to face off the 1-2-3 Kid and Bob Holly. It would be the underdogs versus the big guys, and in the end the 1-2-3 Kid and Bob Holly would emerge victorious as Bam Bam Bigelow would be distracted by Lawrence Taylor - of NFL football fame - who would be sitting at ringside.

Much akin to real life, Razor Ramon would successfully defend his Intercontinental championship against "Double J" Jeff Jarrett after interference from The Roadie - Jarrett's actual roadie - would go south as he would trip his boss and cost him the championship. Also on the card would be a match between The Undertaker and Irwin R. Schyster, a blood feud between Undertaker and the Million Dollar Corporation. To keep him looking strong, The Undertaker would be the victor, continuing the feud between him and the entire Million Dollar Corporation. The WWF World championship match between Diesel and Bret Hart would end in controversy, as Shawn Michaels would make his presence felt as he would superkick Diesel, his former friend and bodyguard, costing him the championship. Bret Hart would emerge victorious, but being the good guy that he is, he would be upset he won the title that way but he'd still accept the win.

That would lead us to the huge thirty-man Royal Rumble match, that would feature Owen Hart coming in at number one, with his brother-in-law (the two not having the best relationship) The British Bulldog coming in at number two. Both men would last until the end, as they would outlast popular stars such as King Kong Bundy, Shawn Michaels, Bob Backlund, Razor Ramon, and Jeff Jarrett. Owen Hart and The British Bulldog would go the distance, lasting around sixty minutes in the ring, until Owen would throw the Brit over the top rope as both of his feet would touch the floor. Owen Hart, the self-professed "King of Harts", would have punched his ticket on the fast lane to WrestleMania.

FEBRUARY AND MARCH 1995 - THE ROAD TO WRESTLEMANIA XI

The big news coming out of the Royal Rumble would be Owen Hart winning his first Royal Rumble match, a year after his brother Bret won his first. In 1994, at WrestleMania X, Bret Hart and Owen Hart tore the house down and blew the roof off of Madison Square Garden in an epic clash, in which Owen emerged victorious. Coming out of the Royal Rumble, Owen Hart knew that he would be restarting his feud with his brother heading into Wrestlemania, only it would be for the WWF championship this time around. Owen, the younger of the two Harts, had reminded Bret that whatever Bret can do, Owen can do better. Heading into WrestleMania, things would get heated between the two as Owen would often say he's the real Hart as well as insult his family heritage by announcing that he's the only real star in the family. As we head into WrestleMania XI, Bret promised that he would beat respect in his little brother, hoping that at the end of the match he would respect his family. At WrestleMania XI, in front of thousands of screaming fans in Hartford, Connecticut, Bret Hart would emerge victorious by defeating his younger brother via a roll-up, a quick pinfall. Owen Hart may have failed at WrestleMania, but his rivalry with his brother would be far from over...

The feud between Shawn Michaels and Diesel finally came to an end at Wrestlemania XI, when the two clashed after years of built up tension. Things had gotten personal between the two after Shawn had cost his former bodyguard the WWF championship at the Royal Rumble, an act Diesel did not forget. Leading in to WrestleMania, Shawn Michaels was nowhere to be seen when Diesel was in the same building, which led to a frustrated Diesel to destroy many wrestlers in matches in quick record times. However, in Hartford, Connecticut, Diesel would finally get his hands on the much smaller Michaels and defeated him following his signature powerbomb.

The Undertaker's blood feud with The Million Dollar Corporation would finally come to a head at WrestleMania XI, where the deadman took on Ted DiBiase's newest acquisition, Sycho Sid. Sid was a near seven foot tall giant of a man, shredded with muscle, who had an affinity to dish out pain to his opponents. The psychotic giant of a man would make his debut the night after the Royal Rumble, targeting The Undertaker on a live edition of Monday Night RAW - the flagship wrestling show for the World Wrestling Federation that airs every single Monday Night on the USA Network. During much of February and March, Sid would visit multiple graveyards and cemeteries with a sledgehammer to destroy the graves, as well as viciously attacking Paul Bearer - The Undertaker's father and manager (yes, the name of Paul Bearer is a pun). The rivalry between the two would come to a head at WrestleMania, where The Undertaker would come out on top and pin Sid with his finishing manoeuvre, the Tombstone Piledriver, to gain the victory at WrestleMania XI.

Coming out of the Royal Rumble, a very interesting bout was brewing between The Million Dollar Corporation's Bam Bam Bigelow and football player Lawrence Taylor. Stemming from Bam Bam's cheap shot on 'LT' at the Royal Rumble, which accidentally bloodied the mouth of the football star. In the weeks following the Royal Rumble event, Bam Bam Bigelow and his manager Ted DiBiase called out Taylor, demanding a match at WrestleMania XI. Lawrence Taylor would then make an appearance on RAW, leading to a ratings boost, that would lead to an all out brawl between the two rivals. Later during the month, WWF President and match-maker Jack Tunney would announce the match to be set for WrestleMania. Lawrence Taylor and Bam Bam Bigelow would do battle in a no disqualifications match, which would lead to Taylor pinning the large Bigelow after using a steel chair to secure the victory.

The feud between Razor Ramon and Jeff Jarrett for the WWF Intercontinental championship would come to a screeching finish at WrestleMania XI when the two would do battle for the championship in a Hartford Street Fight. The stipulation for the bout would be revealed on a prior episode of RAW: the two competitors can gain a pinfall or submission victory anywhere in the city of Hartford, Connecticut. This no disqualifications match would start in the ring, but would eventually finish outside where Jeff Jarrett's roadie - aptly named The Roadie - would clothesline Razor while riding a bicycle. This would lead to Jarrett pinning the champion outside of the arena to win the Intercontinental championship for the very first time.

Also on the card would be the rematch for the WWF Women's championship between perennial monster champion Bull Nakano from Japan and the blonde bombshell Alundra Blayze. With a never give-up attitude, Blayze would inspire young girls watching the show to face their fears and to prove that they should be the best that they can be. Nakano would go on a warpath heading into WrestleMania XI, often destroying jobbers - wrestling term for wrestlers who always lose and are not good, they are only there to lose - and forcing them to leave with injuries. At WrestleMania XI, Alundra Blayze would defeat Nakano with the famed bulldog for the victory.

The WWF Tag Team championships would also be featured on the WrestleMania XI card, as the underdog champions in Bob Holly and 1-2-3 Kid would face the newly heel - wrestling term for bad guy - team of British Bulldog and Lex Luger. Bulldog and Luger would often criticize the young champions for their small stature heading into the huge event and they would gain number one contendership by defeating the Smoking Gunns, a team consisting of Bart and Billy Gunn, on an episode of WWF Superstars. Bulldog and Luger would continue their momentum heading into WrestleMania as they would walk out victorious by crushing both Holly and Kid to win the Tag Team championships.
