- Vince Russo has posted a blog entry over at csrwrestling.com, discussing Monday’s Raw and Sami Zayn. Here is an excerpt…

“Last night RAW experienced its lowest rating of the year, and of course out came the excuses that it was up against the second round of the NBA playoffs. Now, while that is indeed a fact, it had nothing to do with the rating bottoming out. The numbers sunk to new 2015 lows because the casual television fans for that night chose the NBA over RAW because the NBA was indeed the better show of the evening. However, had it been another time, another era, say Austin vs. Rock circa 1997—-it wouldn’t have mattered if LeBron James was matching up with Julius freaking’ Erving—the television viewer was watching wrestling that night.

However, everybody is running to the defense of the WWE, claiming that RAW was a great show on Monday night. WHY was it great in their opinion? Simply because an NXT wrestler that they all mark out for, Sami Zayn, made his surprise appearance on the WWE’s premiere show. I can only imagine when Sami got introduced by Bret Hart and came out as a surprise through the RAW entrance—to the Internet Wrestling Community is was the equivalent of Jesus himself showing up unannounced at the Sea of Galilee. But to the casual wrestling fan—nobody cared—to them this was a jobber and nothing more–so they indeed turned back to hoops.

RAW is a television show and Sami Zayn is NOT a television star—nor—will he be anytime soon. Sami is an exceptional wrestler on a wrestling show, and the only people who care about him are those die hard wrestling fans who are looking for 5-star matches that the massive don’t give a !@#$% about.”

Yet the Lucha Dragons and Neville have been over in cities that arent IWC oriented or smarkish.

Vince never understood wrestlers could get over by what they did in the ring because Vince never liked wrestling. That is why he's killed every wrestling product he's ever been a part of.

lol people still think Vince Russo knows what he's talking about. You just have to know he was head of creative for most of TNA's life and look at the state they're in right now.

Let me humor Russo here and lets say he is right. That only the IWC cares about Sami Zayn.

Ok lets look at what WWE did here with his debut on the main roster. He debut in his home country. People who are watching at home who are not the die hard fans will notice that pop and reaction he got. Also he was introduced by Bret Hart. Now even if there are people like Broski are going "Bret Hart"....That is still Bret Fucking Hart. Its much more then just being from Canada, this guy must be something really special to get such a reaction from the fans and to be introduced by a fucking legend Bret Hart. Also he is in the ring with the face of the company John Cena BTW. Maybe that will make people curious enough to look him up and see what he is about. If they are too lazy to do that because lol America, WWE can simply tell this kid's story...In the most WWEish of ways but still do it.

The IWC "might" Be the only ones before his debut to care about him. But after such a debut, more then just the IWC will care about him after.

Yeah, Vince "Know-It-All" Russo. Such a good booker and wrestling expertise, while being the same person that buried WCW and TNA >_> ffs just die already.

Bullshit! The Sami Zayn character is not a WWE star yet. But El Generico is an international superSTAR! I hate the fact they refer to him as rookie. Because he's been wrestling as long or even longer than Cena.

Yes, the only people who care about Sami Zayn are the IWC. That's why everybody in the crowd for NXT goes absolutely batshit during his matches. Granted, there are a lot of smarks in that crowd, but there's got to be just as many casual fans who absolutely love his matches.

actually it was Mega's character but I took him from him

Mega taken the character from Luke, who randomly created him and Cedar in his matches

But eh, I get where Russo is coming from. I don't see Zayn ever becoming the WWE Champion imo. Doesn't mean he won't do well, though.

^I think he will be if they want him to be. He's got the charisma and ability in the ring to become the next Jeff Hardy, but his ability to sell might land him in Ziggler territory. I've gone back and forth.
