New Japan Cup Results (Day 2)
March 8, 2015

The second round of the New Japan Cup was broadcast live from Korakuen Hall in Japan early this morning (U.S. time) and is available in its entirety now on New Japan World. HERE are the complete results for Day 1 if you need to catch up.

YOSHI-HASHI vs. Jay White

White hits him with a series of chops but Hashi shrugs them off and hangs him in the ropes, followed by a running dropkick. He sits down on a half crab, but there’s a ropebreak. It’s all Yoshi for several minutes until White reverses a neckbreaker with a small package for two. They trade a half dozen pinning combinations, and Hashi hits the Swanton Bomb for the win.

   Winner: YOSHI-HASHI

10-Man Tag Team Match

KUSHIDA, Captain New Japan, Tomoaki Honma, Jushin Thunder Liger, Hiroyoshi Tenzan –vs– Mascara Dorada, Ryusuke Taguchi, Manabu Nakanishi, Tiger Mask, Satoshi Kojima

Tiger Mask locks up with Liger, and they do the spot where neither can hit anything on the other. Dorada and Kushida do the same thing but with cruiserweight moves; Dorada ends up connecting with a springboard dropkick. Honma tags in to a huge pop, but Nakanishi no-sells his offense. After a dozen tries he finally takes him down, but misses the headbutt. Theys work over Honma for awhile, building heat on Taguchi (including a headbutt). Tenzan makes a tag and gets into a chop fight with Kojima. The faces clear the apron, Honma hits the headbutt on Kojima and Captain hits one from the second rope for two. Taguchi returns and gives them all the butt bump. Tenzan of all people does a springboard moonsault to the floor taking out the enemy team. Choatic finish with Captain pinning Kojima after a lariat.

Winners: Captain, Honma, Liger, Tenzan & KUSHIDA

Tenzan and Kojima get into a huge post-match brawl that takes all 8 other men to break them up.

Yohei Komatsu & Hiroshi Tanahashi –vs– Sho Tanaka & Yuji Nagata

Interesting dynamic, as you’ve got one veteran teaming with one young buck (not THOSE young bucks) on each side.

Tanaka wants Tanahashi and slaps him in the face. He throws a dozen elbows and the 7-time champ no-sells them. He throws a dozen more and is starting to make a dent. Tanahashi body slams him and tags out, but that was 95% Tanaka in their exchange. The rookies have a good exchange until Nagata comes in and takes control. He gives Komatsu hard knees and elbows then stretches him out. It’s totally one-sided until Yohei hits a flying forearm out of nowhere and makes the hot tag. Tanahashi tries for a submission but Tanaka dropkicks him from behind. Nagata continues to bully the opponents and yells at Tanaka to finish them off. He hits a stalling gutwrench suplex on Tanahashi and locks in a Boston crab; ropebreak. Komatsu tags in and knocks Nagata off the apron. He’s not happy bout it and rushes the ring, but Tanahashi makes the save and they do stereo suplexes. Komatsu puts the Boston crab on Tanaka which looks like the finish, but he makes it the ropes on a third attempt. He tries for a half crab and this time gets the win.

Winners: Yohei Komatsu & Hiroshi Tanahashi

Lots of respect all around after the match. Both the young guys looked great. The story for most of the match was Tanaka having the number of a 7-time champion, and that didn’t really get resolved as it was Komatsu who had to put him away in the end.

8-Man Tag Team Match

Kazushi Sakuraba, Tomohiro Ishii, Kazuchika Okada, Shinsuke Nakamura vs. The Bullet Club (Cody Hall, Tama Tonga, Doc Gallows, Karl Anderson)

If there was ever a team of New Japan guys to take on the Bullet Club… The three mains had on B.C. attire while Cody Hall has “KLIQ” on the back of his trunks. Sakuraba looked like he was limping to the ring.

Sakuraba kicks the hell out of Anderson at the bell and he retreats into the ropes screaming like a girl. Funny. He tries for a cheap shot but Sakuraba slaps him and puts on an armbar in the ropes. Nakamura tags in. Tonga mocks his strut so the champ kips up and beats him down. In comes Ishii, who no-sells a dropkick and knocks the Club off the apron.

WINNERS: Kazuchi Sakuraba, Tomohiro Ishii, Kazuchika Okada, Shinsuke Nakamura def. The Bullet Club (Cody Hall, Tama Tonga, Doc Gallows, Ken Anderson)
