In the face of escalating threats from hackers, one theater chain has decided to drop “The Interview” from it’s Christmas line-up.

On Tuesday, hackers suggested they’ll retaliate against anyone that screens the film, let alone attend it.

Citing 9/11, the hackers said :

“We will clearly show it to you at the very time and places ‘The Interview’ be shown, including the premiere, how bitter fate those who seek fun in terror should be doomed to. Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made. The world will be full of fear. Remember the 11th of September 2001. We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time. (If your house is nearby, you’d better leave.) Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment. All the world will denounce the SONY.”

Which ‘premiere’ the hackers are referring to is anyone’s guess.. considering the one for “The Interview” was held a couple of days ago.

Sony said they would still be releasing the film as planned, but that it was up to the individual chains as to whether or not they wanted to show it. The company said they’d support anyone who decided they didn’t want to risk screening the film.

Carmike Cinemas, whose headquarters are in Columbus, Ga, have decided not to show the controversial comedy. The chain operates 278 theaters.

The Department of Homeland Security said they’d not found any evidence suggesting there was a plot against U.S movie theaters, but the threat has alarmed many exhibitors and studios.

While it’s not known who the hackers are, consensus seems to be that they’re linked to North Korea – pissed that Seth Rogen and James Franco made a movie that takes the Mickey out of their ‘supreme leader’ Kim-Jong Un.
