Top 6: Most Overrated Wrestlers

Fuck it, I'll just do two:

The Undertaker was an awful wrestler until like 2006~ or so when he learnt to get good. Before that he was just awful. His mic skills never got good and he cut the worst promo I've ever heard. His early stuff was gimmicky as fuck which worked at the time for current viewers to get the mystique over, but it wasn't good wrestling at all, it was just no selling and shitty matches. Then when he had his emo goth phase and early biker phase? Good that that was awful. I get why he's liked, but it's not for his wrestling skill, it's his character and nostalgia.

Shawn Michaels is amazing, but the idea that he's inarguably the GOAT over guys like Flair, Lawler, Tenryu, Kawada, Hansen etc is ludicrous. His offence looks weak as fuck, in his first run especially he could be very very lazy outside of big matches, and he never had the longevity of a lot of guys I'd put over him. He's not bad or anything, but it does feel like the WWE yelling that he's the GOAT and that nothing outside the WWE matters is the main reason he's seen as he is.

You could make the argument that the top 6 most overrated wrestlers are all in Bull's sig.

Depends who you mean overrated by. I was talking about fans, and there Triple H is if anything underrated (8/10 pushed as a 10/10 so backlash makes people talk like he's a 6/10), and I'd argue that the pre-Stone Cold part of Austin's career is underrated considering it's barely talked about and was amazing.

I meant Trips, Savage, Rock, Taker, Hogan, and Ryback (as a joke)


You make a good point about HBK though. As much as I like him, the love his first run gets is mostly skewed by the fact that he was the only remotely talented guy on the roster not named Hart there for a couple years.

So if not Ryback, replace HHH with him maybe?

I actually agree that Triple H is insanely underrated.

EDIT: And the majority of Japanese wrestlers. They can be mediocre but because they are Japanese or work there they're instantly brilliant.

Case and point: Prince Albert/A-Train was shit in WWE. Giant Bernard got loadsa praise. Tensai the fuck?

It's mostly that he was in a system that promotes a certain style of wrestling and against far better opponents. He didn't become a better wrestler, he just got to show how good he is. Same way that Goldust looks far better now than he did in the 90's because he's in longer matches with better opponents, a higher work rate, less limitations, and without having to play the creepy pervert gimmick. Saying that the majority of Japanese wrestlers are overrated is a big stretch, though.

I too like(d) Albert and have always been a fan of Goldust, but it remains that for whatever reason, Japanese competitors get more praise for whatever reason. Hell, I appreciate that a lot of them are good wrestlers and some of the gimmicks are the best out there, but they're overrated nonetheless.

Also Kane and Big Show have always been terrible and Bruiser Brody is one of the worst wrestlers I've ever seen.
