He has a 15-3-1 record. If this is Punk's first fight, this will end ugly for Punk.

First round the guy will just fuck with Punk. Soon as round 2 begins, knock Punk down and just pounds on his face with in seconds.

Del Rio had a 9-5 record in MMA for those that think wrestlers with no formal wrestling experience stand no chance. This guy is 13-3-1 in officially sanctioned non-UFC fights... As in, not that far off from what Del Rio managed.

No formal wrestling experience? Del Rio was a national wrestling champion, was on track to be in the olympics before Mexico pulled out because of a lack of funding, and had a number of other accomplishments. He was experienced and trained well before he entered MMA, compared to Punk who it appears has never actually had any combat sports experience outside of sparring.

^ What Jelly said. ADR had a background and so Brock did with his legit wrestling. So trying to compare Punk to ADR or even Brock is silly.

This guy has had years of experiences, trains day after day. Punk did Jiu-Jitsu on his free time and as a wrestler meaning he wasn't either able to train that much or that not long.

Brock and ADR also don't work because they're just two examples of many, and most don't end that way. Yuji Nagata was (Well, is) a tough mother fucker and an amazing pro wrestler, but he got thrown into MMA fights with just a lot of amateur experience, and it didn't end well at all:

I like how you showed Nagata getting destroyed by world class fighters like Fedor and Cro Cop. That's funny.

It is more funny than it is relevant to the discussion, I just find it amusing that Inoki would think that it'd help NJPW to put a guy who's never fought before against Fedor and Cro Cop (Although I'm fairly sure neither was viewed as the killers they turned into at that point).

Uhhhhhhh based on fucking what? How can you say a PPV buy rate that was because of them like it's a big deal when it was 100,000 more than the average the first year and below average the second?

The Wrestlemania based around Daniel Bryan and nothing else was seen by 1.3 million paid fans... More than either Cena/Rock PPV. Their match did barely anything to alter buy rates.

Punk isn't taking anyone's spot. At absolute worst he's taking a fight away from a person that's never fought in the UFC before and, based on how earning fights works, it'll be the guy that deserves it the absolute least.

He's going to fight some guy no one has ever heard of, give him a shot to make a name for himself, and make money for all involved. Punk fighting is great for literally everyone in the UFC. There is no downside because the WWE and UFC markets are different.

I don't know if he'll do well or not, but being an average fighter isn't that hard. That's why the turnover in the UFC is so damn high.
