According to PWInsider.com, while the injuries Sheamus sustained on Raw this week were part of the story line, Sheamus is indeed injured and does require surgery.

Earlier this week, Sheamus posted a photo of himself noting he was prepping for surgery, and while the nature of the injury is unknown at this time, the angle done on Raw this week was WWE’s way of writing Sheamus out of the Survivor Series main event and to cover him being out of action. No word at this time as to when Sheamus might be able to return to the ring.
