Bon Jovi fans will be disappointed to learn that Richie Sambora's exit from the group appears to be permanent.

Sambora, who left the band amid rumors of a feud between him and singer Jon Bon Jovi last year, has often stated that he was hopeful of returning to the band in the future.

Speaking to Showbiz 411 (via Classic Rock), however, Jon has stated that a return to the fold from the guitarist is unlikely:

"He quit. He's gone. No hard feelings. Being in a band isn't a life sentence."

Sambora's departure marks the end of an era for Bon Jovi. He joined the band in 1983, after replacing original lead guitarist Dave Sabo and has appeared on every one of the group's studio albums. The guitarist even handled lead vocals on Bon Jovi tracks "I'll Be There for You" and "These Days."

Since leaving Bon Jovi, Sambora has played a handful of solo shows, including slots at last year's Download and Calling festivals. In an interview with Lust for Life back in June, he revealed that a new solo album is in the works.

His last solo record, titled "After the Lowdown," was released in 2012.
