During a recent sit-down interview with Michael Cole, posted over at WWE.com, Triple H talked in-depth about this past week’s NXT Takeover 2 event, and the following are some highlights:

-Triple H compared NXT to ECW, but said he hopes one day it will become more like WCW and actually rival the WWE main roster product.

-Triple H revealed Takeover II was the #2 most social program on prime time Thursday, including all cable and network shows.

So... they have that little faith in other products that they need to create their own competition?

Well it seems WWE really does want to give people are reason to get the network with what they're going to do with NXT.

I refuse to believe anybody who's sat down and watched NJPW and PWG with an open mind thinks NXT is better when the majority of stuff people praise NXT for is stuff NJPW and PWG do far better. I like NXT, but the circlejerk about how it's the best thing in wrestling is just insane.

I've watched loads of NJPW, especially back in 2010 when I was more into indies. I used to find it interesting, but now I look at it and I find it insanely dull. Matches aren't everything, and even their matches are very meh to me now. KENTA was cool, watching a bunch of botched powerbombs be called finishers was not.

Same thing with PWG. I used to love PWG back in 2010, possibly my favorite indy at the time. Looking back it, not even close to NXT.

Just because people don't share your opinions doesn't mean they don't know anything about it. I used to watch both, and I prefer NXT by a long shot to either of those.

Erm, KENTA has never even wrestled in NJPW. I was/am fairly drunk when I wrote my last post so it may be a bit much/dickish as fuck, but it's just insane to act like NXT is far and away above any non-WWE stuff. 2010 NJPW isn't the same as 2013/2014 NJPW at all, currently NJPW is the best it's been in decades.

^^ Ahh. Well, to be fair, most of the stuff I saw back then when it came to NJPW or any other Japanese wrestling were matches SuicidalDragon posted on YT, or videos referred because of that. Anyway, I haven't seen NJPW in 2013-2014 so I can't say anything about it. But if it's anything like it was in 2010, I prefer NXT. I don't think it sucks, I just prefer NXT.

Yeah I heard New Japan was in real trouble back then. It seems like they were really able to turn things around after they were sold.

I didn't only watch 2010 NJPW though. A lot of the matches I saw were from the 90's and some from early 2000's, IIRC.

NJPW has massively moved away from the MMA influences that they had and focused more on wrestler's personalities without straying too far from a focus on wrestling, and it's really improved their product over the past few years. Early 2000's NJPW was especially god awful. 2010 NJPW is nowhere close to as good as current NJPW on any level, it really is like comparing 1996 WWF to 2000 WWF. The Okada vs Tanahashi series alone blows anything from the past decade from any promotion aside from prime ROH clean out of the water.

Shinsuke Nakamura alone is a great example of this - he went from no personality "I was good at MMA" guy who NJPW kept pushing even though he couldn't get all that over to being over as fuck and one of the best wrestlers in the world when he picked up the King of Strong Style gimmick and the Danny Brown mannerisms. If you can only watch one match to check if NJPW is better than it previously was, watch Shinsuke Nakamura vs Kota Ibushi.

How is NJPW an indy promotion?

It's not, I don't think anybody intentionally implied it is.
