It's a smart business move, free play-testing. Less than free really. Players are stupid for buying into it though.

Beta testing is a smart but shitty business move. With it, they no loner have a big use for game testers. They have a lot of players willing to play it and test it and they'd even be willing to pay companies on certain occasions. It's dumb, but it works.
