UPDATE: Nintendo of America announced that the Mario Kart 8 Mercedes car DLC and game update will launch August 27, the same date as Japan.

The timing of the DLC and game update coincides with the 22nd anniversary of Super Mario Kart, which is available now in the Wii U eShop. Additionally, Nintendo detailed that the GLA model vehicle will feature special wheel options, though all three new Mercedes karts can be mixed and matched with different wheels and gliders in Mario Kart 8.

Finally, there are now definitive notes on what the Mario Kart 8 update will bring to the kart-racing title. The one big alteration not previously reported is the Next Race menu prompt has been moved above Watch Highlight Reel.

Mario Kart 8 owners will be able to enjoy three free luxury motoring machines spanning Mercedes-Benz history with the Mercedes GLA DLC coming to the Wii U this summer.

The collection introduces three free new cars to Mario Kart 8’s line-up, the 1957 300 SL Roadster sports car, the 1934 W 25 Silver Arrow formula racing car and Mercedes-Benz’ new compact SUV, the GLA.

The latest Japanese-language trailer for the Mercedes content reveals that the DLC will hit the region August 27. Nintendo's Twitter account confirmed in late June that the DLC will tear onto European and North American Wii Us with a summer release window. The DLC is part of a crossover campaign with Nintendo and the Mercedes GLA team to promote the new SUV.
