Both no showed this match, and Jayden Thunder has been retired. Knux has created a new character, though. I'm glad you're sticking around. I'm not sure what's happened with Tyson, but if he'd like to shoot me a PM and give me an update, that would be much appreciated. Smile

Vladimir Strife vs. Dereck Walter

Vladimir Strife wins by no show. I'm hearing that Walter may have left us. Though I can't confirm that, so if I could get some confirmation from the man himself, that would be good. Thanks for showing Vlad, if you'd like feedback, don't hesitate to contact one of the team members.

IC Tournament Match
Greg Samuel vs. Akira Kobayashi
Grader: Riley

Akira Kobayashi: Loved the way how you describe the things happening from the start, the way how you described when you wrote how Samuel tries to exchange the hold but doesn't get any luck as Akira wraps both of his arms and around his opponents waist before puling him back towards the ropes. But Samuel manages to stop Akira by planting his feet, but by this time Akira is close enough to the ropes to stick a foot back and hook it around the bottom rope, forcing Samuel to break the hold. "This time however it is Akira who switches the hold as he hooks a leg around behind Samuel and trips him. Samuel falls backwards to the ground while still holding Akira, pulling him down while putting his own knees up. Samuel lies on his back, the two men still engaged in the knuckle lock as Akira leans over Samuel's knees. Akira leans forward and pushes down with all his weight, managing to force Samuel's shoulders to the mat for a split second."- Really gave me a good picture inside of my head of what is going on. your Description was well as I didn't get lost throughout your match. As well as your Action. The Finish was spectacular as it did put a closing to such a long hard and fought bout.

Greg Samuel: Great Job on hyping up your match. Giving us a history on what is going on between the two and what they have accomplished so far in the Tournament. Loved the way how you have The Crowd Interact to what is going on in the ring. One thing that I think that may hurt you abit here, In terms of the flow in your match, is that in the beginning of your match you had the two lock in a side headlock. Then after you have a few strikes (Three Elbow Strikes, European Uppercut, Head-butt, and then a Biel Throw), Then you go back to a Headlock. I thought you did well on putting some moves inbetween the Headlocks but to me, I just found it to be a bit weird to go back to that move after you had such great moves being put in. In terms of Selling/ Description, you did a good job. I'm just going to summarize it here, since you're description of it is so long lol, "Mr.MOTN then holds Akira's left arm to the mat while getting to a vertical base. Greg then puts his left foot on the left arm of Akira he then lifts his other leg before stomping onto the the arm of Akira. He then stomps on the bicep of Akira causing him to yelp out in pain. Akira endures one more stomp and this causes Akira to scream in agony" - Is what really stood out to me and what is going through the mind of Akira whilst this is happening. Overall, this was a good match from you.

Verdict: Both really did well in keeping there matches Interesting. Both men's Descriptions were on par, and also Selling. But In the end, I found Akira Kobayashi to have the better match. His had Good Flow, and Action and I just thought that he had the most exciting match between the two.

Singles
Travis Levitt vs. Xtreme Icon
Grader: Kani

Travis Levitt: You really heeled it up to the max in this one, didn't you? Some classic heel work in a short match. Personally, I would have liked to have seen Icon get some retaliation after kicking out of the Dragon Suplex, but I know your circumstances, and I'm glad your boy is feeling better now. Smile The match was good for a short match. The cheating made the victory feel believable, so it wasn't just a move then pin kind of deal. The deck was well and truly stacked against Icon, especially with LJ hitting the Thunder Bomb outside, and then the follow up kick from Summers. Not bad at all. Nothing wrong with the description, or the action. Good short match, Ace.

Xtreme Icon: I liked the beginning of your match with the brawling on the outside, but it's a bit of a shame because we only grade bell to bell, so I can't really talk about it as far as the grading is concerned. For what it's worth, it did set up some animosity for the match, and did well to put Levitt's heel persona over, as well as Icon's persona. I really liked that Levitt went right for the shoulder of Icon, as it really set the story in motion. As the reader, I know that this is going to be a factor in this match right away, which is good in terms of building a story. I feel like perhaps something other than Levitt just letting go of the hold could have added a bit more to the match, though. Even if Icon started to crawl one handed, then he was thrown to the mat or something. Your description was very much in "this happened, then this happened" territory. I don't know if you just didn't have time or what, but it could have been better. Icon also starts throwing elbow drops to Levitt on the mat, without selling his shoulder or anything like that. The high flying aspects of the match, with Icon flipping out of the ring, then later doing the Shooting Star Dropkick to Summers were nice to see. The rest of your match was OK, but not great. I feel that, all in all, this match was very rushed, and could have been much better than it was. Your action was fine, you had some good moments, but it was your description that really let you down. Had you worked more on description and selling, I feel I'd have enjoyed this match more.

Verdict: In a case of bigger not always being better, I'm giving this win to Travis Levitt. I felt that his match was a lot cleaner and well formed. Icon, your action was alright, and I have a feeling your match would have been great, if not for the description and such. I know you haven't written a match in a while, though, and I hope to see more from you in the future. Smile

Tag Team Match
The Logging Crew vs. Cultural Experience
Grader: Meth

Meth is having a tryout grading this week, so here we go!

Logging Crew: There’s a couple of proof reading errors in your match, but I’m not going to penalise you for those just thought I’d make note. I do feel like your match could have benefitted from more description of the action. For example; “turning just in time to catch Sento-Ki coming off the ropes.  He drives the smaller man into the canvas with a vicious spinebuster.” I think a little more detail wouldn’t have gone amiss here. It reads a bit like a summary, there’s one incident followed by another and it’s missing the thick of it. Putting that extra bit in of Cletus catching and lifting the opponent up just helps create better imagery, especially if you can add in how it was performed (did Cletus strain? Was he breathing heavily? Is Takumi sweating? Etc.) Towards the end you seem to taper off too as the last paragraph just seemed like a rushed finish, though I did like the idea behind the ending (Cletus nailing the big move out of no-where and Jim having the wherewithal/tag team experience to keep the partner busy) it really helps to build the Crew as an experienced tag team that work well together. Overall a good match, but not the best I’ve seen you put out.

Cultural Experience: The first few sentences read like a moveset. “quickly x happened before y before z before a which quickly turned into b” The imagery and suspense of the match just runs away, and repeatedly using ‘before’ in that short a space just removes the reader from the match rather than hooking them into it. I understand trying to build up through a series of moves at the beginning of the match, but a more varied vocabulary stops it from sounding repetitive. Your use of reactions however are very well done. Mid-late match each move reads like it has some weight behind it, the victims reacting appropriately to being hit by whatever their opponent’s arsenal dictates. I’ll openly admit I did have a good chuckle at the whole “Korean vs. Japanese” bit you did with the commentary too (though that doesn’t factor in to the grading, I felt I should acknowledge that). I like you building up to a turn-around then cutting away Cultural Experience’s momentum and the use of Levitt is a nice touch, though I do feel a fireball to the face wouldn’t just lay someone out and should get more of a reaction from the opponent than that. You do well to show the Crew’s experience as a tag team and have them work as a flowing team should throughout the match. For a standard card match with no built rivalry I do think you undermine the Ol’ Bent Pine a bit. You’ve built up a focus on the knee and OBP is the finishing submission, for a standard card match a finisher should really be the be-all and end-all and making it so an injured, lonesome competitor and break out of it as easily as Sanu did makes it seem a bit weak, or at least in my eyes. Again I like the sudden turn around into the surprise finisher for the match ending, but would have liked to see a larger nod towards Sanu using his hurt knee to deliver the final blow such as a reaction from him rather than a passing comment acknowledging it was that knee he used. Overall though it was a solid match.

Verdict: I’m going to give this one to Cultural Experience. Both writers had similar flaws in their matches and both endings seemed a little weak in regards to the rest of the match writing wise but Snoopz’s match read a little easier, I could picture the match better than I could the Crews thanks to the reactions and I just think he put in that little bit more. Both matches did a good job of selling both teams as working well together and being experienced as a team, but Snoopz created a better atmosphere through better usage of the crowd (Crew’s match had no response to the CE hot tag near the end) which also helped his match. Good job the both of you.

Main Event
David Michaels vs. Jared Jerusalem
Grader: Ace

Jared Jerusalem: Love the description and the start here. The way you described Michaels having to just rain a hand to get a reaction bigger then what Jared was basically begging for was a nice touch. A few of your sequences struggled to flow, which may have just been your grammar. I gotta give you props here for your description, you're going above and beyond to pain a picture of whats happening, but at no point do I feel like you've gone overboard. Having Michaels target the leg again was a nice touch, and shows up a continued weakness for Jared. As a word of warning though, I wouldn't let the 'injury' bother Jared for too many shows in a row, or you start restricting yourself into a corner. I enjoyed seeing you bring up the history between the two with the STS and the reversal into the Calf Killer was a really nice sequence. Your finish came across a little rushed but that was really the only place I noticed. Overall a good job, some good descriptions, a lot of nice sequences, and a great effort.

David Michaels: God damn. Talk about making your opponent look like a million bucks. The opening sequence established this perfectly. Michaels comes in cocky, Jared smacks him around and shows he IS good enough to fight on Michaels' level. As always, your descriptions are nigh-perfect, and make it seem like I'm watching the entire match in my head. I really liked the story of this match, and even the middle, usually the deadest part of any match, had some good sequences and kept me hooked and reading. I absolutely loved Jared hitting on Nova btw Funny One down point, from my POV, the ref bump worked, but having Michaels get the submission during a ref bump, only to win anyway....I dunno. It left a sour taste in my mouth. That could've been a big moment for Jerusalum, and something the rookie used in the future, but instead it was like Michaels beat him twice. Like i said, just a personal POV.

Verdict: Sorry Jared, but even with a finish I didn't enjoy, I still think David Michaels wrote the better match. More humor, easier to read, and quite simply the best writer on XWA right now. Don't feel too bad though jared, I really did enjoy your match, and I think you're definitely an early pick for KOX this year. I'd suggest working on your sequences, which came across a little rushed occasionally, and facing anyone that isn't Chilly as well. Chilly, you're already perfect. Do I even need to give you any advice here? Funny

Note: A lot of no showing this week, with a few being due to issues regarding extensions. We will be addressing the extensions process shortly, which will likely come up in the GM Announcements.

Thank you to those who showed this week! As I said, not a strong card, but hopefully things will be better with the next card.
