The online campaign was launched by Sven Armdacht, who slams the mysterious outfit as creators of "awful poser music." He's hoping to secure 10,000 signatures – although, to date, just over 400 have added their names. Armdacht says: "Ghost wish to destroy real metal with their carnival music nonsense. Seriously, is a song like If You Have Ghost actually something that a real metalhead would listen to? They are not metal.

"People make the erroneous claim that they are inspired by King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, which is just wrong. They are, in fact, a watered-down version of BOC.

"We the people oppose Ghost continuing as a band, and they should be split up as soon as possible. They have done so much damage to real metal."

He believes the band fool new listeners into thinking they're a metal band and that's leading people away from genre icons like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. He adds: "If we get 10,000 signatures then maybe they will listen and stop making music. Ghost have spent the last several years butchering our ears with their awful poser music. Real metal does not involve Hot Topic bands. Ghost is not metal."

One of the band's Nameless Ghouls last week suggested they might consider splitting if their identities were revealed and the knowledge ruined fans' enjoyment of their performances.

There are many forms of the metal genre and you dont have to sound like everything else that's out there. I guess this guy doesnt get that. That being said...i listened to 2 songs, and he's right on one thing....they're pretty shitty. If they ever broke up over a petition, it shouldnt be because of what they're classed as, it should be cause they're bad.
